Hows the dyna-tele setup working for you? are those the rottafella (SP?) heel throws?

I love the set-up and highly recommend it.  The spring and bail parts are G3 I think, but they have a modified heel throw to fit over the heel welt on your boot instead of in the groove.  This is necessary since the groove on tech compatible boots is taken up by the tech fitt...

Nice Mike, love the last picture.

what could be more fun...

Not much!  Might have added to our day if you'd been there to share it though.  Next time, eh?

some fun slushy October turns.

October slush.  Sounds dreamy.  Soft snow is soft snow.  : )

...because I have had all summer to come up with some O.C.D. cooked plot to ski something un tested...

HA!  I get this completely.  Nice trip, and nice report.  I'm just disappointed we couldn't share each other's crazy October cook-ups.  Maybe if Winter is delayed beyond November, we'll put together something creative for next month :)
Very nice!  Looks like you and I had the same weather and ski experiences from different parts of the state.
On a view day, the top of Ruth is one of the best places in the world to be.  Great trip and glad it worked out.

Just a little walk back out, eh?

Was your E slope the sunlit face on the left of the first pic?  We've looked at that in past years.
Hopefully we won't HAVE to go there in November.

The east facing slope I skied is not quite visible. I started from just below the summit scramble and dropped on the other side of the ridge behind the sun-covered slope you see lower down on the left....
Good solo effort to hit for the TAY cycle!  8)  Travel rate sounded fast.

Well done! I gave up on Ruth months ago
I have been wondering about Ruth, thanks for the report.
You just keep raising the bar, what could be more fun than a long dusty hike, fall you go rock skipping accent/decent, a nasty frozen traverse, bullet proof sun cups, and a parting shot. PERFECT!
I might have ogled your skis up on the trail Sunday afternoon... can't ski due to an arm injury but we were jogging up there and it was lovely.
looks like a fun time & a beautiful autumn day.  thanks for the invite, but i had one last rock climbing objective to go after before the dry weather ends.  seems like i picked the last possible weekend to tick it off!

All in all, a beautiful day featuring some fun slushy October turns.

"Slushy"?  We be jealous!  Did you ski on the S side of Pt. Ridge?  Or did the N side soften up too?
sorry i couldn't make it guys. looks like a great day...

Chris...Holly looks like she is going to be an awesome ski partner!
What a great trip! Amazing photos Yansen! I had a great time with you guys. Congratulations to James and Mack on their 5 year streaks. All I can say is that I wish my (~ 4 yr) streak that ended last year was still going strong...  >:( Perhaps this will be the start of a new TAY streak for me! This was Holly's first glacier trip and I think the general consensus was that she did great, so glad I had her with me!

Here is a link to my photos from the trip
Your dedication to late season turns on the South is admirable!  Nice photos and report!
A maritime dump for ending the SA season. You are bring the season.  ;)
Great farewell gift from the southern snow goddess, hope she sends you home with pow for us, too.
Now I remember,  some of that would be very nice about now, thanks for the report.
Gary, Is this the snow patch just up from PJ lake and off of Eagle Point?

I'm scheming.
Sick. Hopefully you bring all that snow up here.
Yea!  Nice work for sure.  I wish I could have come.  Next year perhaps!  I love fall weather--even if it means icy skiing.  My wife and I were in the Leavenworth area and were inhaling smoke.  So... those clear blue skies looked rather nice.

Ah man, great photos.. I really wish I could have come. Thanks for posting these

Perhaps we need to make sure to mention again just how long the FS road is.  And bumpy!  Definitely not worth going here.

Looks from Alex's photos that it probably IS worth the trip :)
Alex, the pix are just fantastic.

Despite not finding any cougars on the trail, the views were spectacular. Crampons were sorely missed, but we made the best of it.

I posted a handful of pictures on my website. More to come in the future.

All in all it was a spectacular fall day.

Congratulations to James for his first 60 months of TAY!  It was a beautiful day to take the skis for a walk and then bounce them around on frozen size-A suncups.
Good job, gentlemen.  Sorry I couldn't make it, I thought about you all weekend, as I relaxed around home.
good question to ponder.

Good stuff Gary -- maybe THIS year we can hook up.  I'm just going to keep saying that.

Thanks Marcus, yes we definitely need to get together this winter.

Now that is a well selected home-site.  One hour from house to turns in October.  Outst...
Awesome!  I had been up there last weekend backpacking with my daughters out to Grand Pass and wondered if anyone would get their turns on those snow patches.  I'm hoping to get in Oct turns this year for the first time in 10 years.  I may have to head out there yet again.  Thanks for the report, beta, and inspiration.  I'm loving the brisk autumn air too.

Also... perhaps I'll be able to ski with you legends one day too  :)
Way to get after it!

I made a few turns out there today. The hard freezes at night and only a few hours of sunshine on that northern slope made for bullet proof suncups and chattery skiing! Almost impossible to boot up those glistening icy slopes without crampons! Those turns were earned!

I think it is strange that we have a snowtell site at waterhole but not longer a hut? Do you understand the Parks rational for that move? I always thought that cabin, stove, first aid cac...

Fine job gettin' OcTAYber in Port Angeles-local style  8)
Sweet! Very inspiring for my October day!
Made it up there the same day, here is the vid. ;D

Man, you guys are dedicated.  Looks like leaving Los Angeles to ski some of our heaven.
