Photos 2 thru 6 on your Facebook series have some crazy cool sideways lighting, as does first part video. Maybe more fun to look at than be there?

How many takes did your ski tripods in photo #1 take? That was artsy.

During the vid the "probing" for the one special point in the wall to wall ice that won't land you on your ass is funny - been there done that. Cheap MRNP asphalt and refreeze cycles are just as bad a combo as caffeine and alcohol.
Hey - I recognize some of those Panorama Point rocks - from my last "ski by braille" trip.  What a difference from two + weeks ago.
Thanks for those photos.  I was curious to see just how much effect all that rain had had on the early snow.

It looks to me like your trip was worth it just to be in a beautiful place and excellent exercise.

That's what I kept telling myself on the way down ;)
Thanks for the update on Hood.  I assumed most of the good stuff had left after the recent rains.  Glad to see it's ski-able.  I am hoping to extend to 13 months in the next couple weeks via the Palmer.

You never forget your first TAY.

I certainly won't, and I'm a stickler for continuity so I think I started something that may become obsessive at some point. Oh well, guess I'll have to live with skiing all year round. How awful.
I like the photos.  I love early snow season... always quite beautiful.  It looks to me like your trip was worth it just to be in a beautiful place and excellent exercise.  I am itching to get out.
Thought I saw your car on the parking lot webcam yesterday :)

thanks for the report Carl

Thanks! This October was my first TAY, and a lot if that was thanks to the trip reports off of here. Hope to contribute more in the near future.

You never forget your first TAY.
Thanks for the write-up Brian. Your eye for that wind-loaded spot was pretty keen. Being up there with you guys made the trip worthwhile despite the conditions. And the blackberry pie and beers that Luke and I ordered afterwards was worth the drive alone........
Sweet, another convert  :)
Rock on  ;D

Way to find the goods.
Welcome to TAY.
Thanks for the Tuesday luck, I hope we don't need it!
Hey, nice pics.

Great time out there.  It was real nice to meet everyone.
Thanks for letting me ride with youze guys.

Hit me up if your up north again and are looking to get out...

Cheers

I was trying to talk DOD into water skiing, didn't think he was really going to hit the snow. Nice work folks!
i used to do that to hit handrails when i was a little jib punk back in the day!
Thanks for the reply Kneel Turner. I should have mentioned that I originally was going to respond just to your post but changed my audience mid-post and tried to put a lot of information out there for everyone (not just directed at you). I should have changed some context when I changed the audience of my post. That is probably the reason you felt like I was reading into wasn’t there. I was, but not maliciously. I was responding to questions or scenarios other people might be thinking by reading...
Nice style!

I like the hand drag..
Thanks for the cool video and photos guys! And to leyland for the tour.

Good day,. Dog is ready for more lisa.
Way to get after it! I thought we were out of business...
As I re-applied a half stick of P-tex to the bottom of my board last night from this past Sunday's ski of 6 inches of snow up in Rocky Mountain National park (which was fantastic as well as destructive) I pondered my passion for skiing.

It's so wonderful to see others as deranged as myself.

Ice rink shavings and skiing?  You win hands down!!
congrats to the director for flicking the senior switch to fun and sneaking in another TAY!!---
thats about 250...right??
yup..I managed to Park the Golfy in between the lines in the carpark this time :-)

unlike last thursday...but we were in a hurry, Euro style :-)
Believe it or not, I was not intending to be controversial in my posting.  Chris and Dustin, I hope that if you take another look at what I actually wrote, you may not feel so eager to jump to conclusions.

Good post.

Although it is "public land" Crystal mountain does indeed have authority to create and enforce rules in the ski area. And that is the way it should be. Due to the nature of a ski resort (large quantities of human beings in close proximity doing an inherently dangerous activity), your actions will almost always have an impact on someone else - however minor that impact will be. When you ski an area that has a high risk of a slide - especially with public ski...

We should probably start a new thread, but here's a somewhat common scenario when I'm tempted to have a discussion with Crystal patrol ops:

Skiing upper lifts at Crystal.
Have skins in my pack.
Conditions are good.
I have the proper attitude, knowledge, and equipment, to ski out of bounds.
Crystal closes upper lifts "due to wind".

Crazy funny. If anybody ever asks for a proof of your love for skiing heave these pictures should suffice.
Nice work dude! I am from Atlanta, and know what you went through to get some turns in, is very inspiring! Well done sir
Were you in that VW? I've been stalking the webcams and praying for snow. Looks like it might freeze overnight as low as paradise.. I'm crossing my fingers. Looks like there might *possibly* be some good skiing if you can get as far up as Muir - and it looks like the wind is dying down a bit compared to the last couple of days. Any comments on conditions up higher? Or was the weather bad enough that you didn't want to go up that far?
Darrin -- ya jes gotta stop draggin' your right pole!!  Other than that, good work!

I questioned if I can continue to hike the ski area when lifts are running to ride some groomers and was told that is ok.

I think this is a somewhat straightforward issue legally.  If you look up "Crystal Mountain Special Use Permit", you can get some clues about what kinds of restrictions Crystal Mountain (and all other ski areas in WA state.....
Virgin Cordoroy????? I like that turn of phrase....you got class Bob and can park beside me in Upper Lot C with the Backcountry
Elite anytime.

Learn to use the multi-quote function though.

Right on! Avy or silver basin? Or in the resort? I am headed up to do some chores up at the cabin, so maybe I should bring my gear :)

More in the resort. Not sure what runs but check the crystal mtn. webcams there aint much left up there.

Good on you!  And yes, it's okay to hike/skin when the lifts aren't (or are) running.  Did you get any pics?

No pics was too busy ripping pow.

Another bad example is hiking up Kelly's Gap Road early in the morning after any snowfall has occurred over night....

THank you climate change for that. No more pow. Its done.

Binx is right..no way 2-3 ft powder...more like 15"-18" even in accumulated areas and bowls and it was cascade powder not real powder.

If you skin up when lifts are running and ski groomers to the base= OK.
If you skin up, ski down to mid-level and then use mid-level lifts to go back up you are trespassing and stealing services.

The crystal ski patrol folks have always been friendly and informative with me.  I think it's good to check in with them before heading up.
Hmmmmm.......yes it's NC for North Cascades.  A failed attempt to minimize confusion for the geographically impaired who might confuse Ruth Mountain for Mount Ruth.  Mount Ruth residing in MRNP...which does not stand for the Mullahs Republic of Northern Pakistan.

I'm sure many good turns were experienced in the North Cascades on that Thursday.  FWIW John my best turns always seem to occur in October!
See I'm the opposite. I grew up on the snow in NC. I feel like it gives me an appreciation for real mountains. Gotta love the east coast ice right? No? No one? Lol
The day I went skiing in North Carolina was the day I gave up skiing for good --- until I moved here.

That would explain A LOT. I knew there couldn't be that much snow back in NC this time a year.
I feel like an idiot now haha

You just moved from the right coast to the left. I doubt anyone could fault you for not being in the know on "NC".

[ :)Good Job Bob
You can hike any where you want as long as you assume the risk
and are not interfering with Crystal Mtn ski patrol control work, which will not be going on any time soon. Just to make a correction, at best on the mtn the deepest it has been is 16" to 18" inches deep. Your quite brave with all the rocks being slightly covered. I've been all over Crystal 3 to 4 days a week lately watching elk and deepest I've encountered is 16". If Crystal gets 2...
