Pure unadulterated torture to look at that great snow, and not have some of my own, thanks for the great pictures!
It was nice to meet and ski with you fine folks!
Here are a few pics.

Thanks for the skin track, it was definitely appreciated! Perfect October Pow and no core shots getting down to the parking lot!
great photos!

we were up there yesterday (10/25) and found excellent conditions. it was clear and cold the night before which made for super light and dry powder skiing. best of all, it was sunny for the first three runs! a whiteout rolled in around 2 pm and we called it quits

i would recommend that powder seekers this weekend go to the very top of the ridge and ski from there because coverage is excellent up high. below the hogsback there were definitely a lot of rocks hi...
"I don't really know why he's slowing down.?"

Good one.
That seemed to be top speed for the anti pistes that day. It did seem silly slow. Felt like you could have easily straightlined it to pebble creek, but what can I say? I like to turn.

And to Jason:
I did find it hard to believe there were so few people up there considering the reports, weather (reasonable), and the inevitable early season stoke.  Just ten of us skiing in one big group that...
wow that looks so so nice.
wow.
Wonderful! Muir powder is certainly rare and it seems to happen most often early season.

...jealous! And I have no excuses for not being up there ;)
I like Gabe's fat powder skis in that first pic.  Chalk one up for optimism!
Awesome Kam!  Yeah, we need a Phirin/Norie shot for sure.
WOW!  Love your sense of understatement..  Scrolling down from pic 1 to pic 2 was definitely 'in your face'

.. Again, I've skied worse...

that looks pretty...
Congrats, and well done!
Nice to meet y'all up there. Definitely a great day for October. I didn't take a lot of shots, but got one of you guys descending:

Heres a video from the day

Thumbs up on the vid.
Sweet Viddy
Looks like mid-season over there.  Especially the third photo.

Fortunately the shop at the Hampton lodge has quick base repair turn around.

Affordable too!
Nice Video, Maybe I should go back to snowboarding.
Awesome to see you guys up there yesterday.. It was a good kickstart to the season!
Lisa, I am fine, just a sore body and a bruised ego! It was nice to meet you guys out there on the mountain and hopefully I run into you guys again soon! I can't wait to get back out there. It beats the office any day of the week!
Looks awesome! Can't wait  :D
October 24th.  Good way to start the season.
Andrew forgot to mention the layer lurking beneath the white layer, but I guess it's implied in Roctober.
Didn't have to transition on any creek crossings, just tip toed through them.
Man, it felt good to be back in some powder!

Entering Winter

Creek Crossing
Just what I wanted to see, thanks! How were the creek crossings?
Way to get creative close to home.
Just something I had from yesterday, looks like the/a ski van to me :)

It was pretty nice up there on Sunday, skinned up to Silcox and skied down.  I liked the filled in gulleys and trees down to Magic Mile lift, didn't really hit anything.  I was surprised they didn't open the lift, stating "Due to low visability, the lifts will be closed today."  I could see all the way up Palmer, not sure why they never opened.  Still got after it and checked off my first 12 month TAY!

No, this is autocorrect on my phone. This is what I get for posting updates from my phone *sigh*

it's like my other updates when I've posted 'pain point' instead of pan point on the snowfield at Rainier. Good times, thanks for pointing out a funny slip. And yes, there were many spots on the side of the road with yellow snow melt from what I saw.
That's really funny....! Perfect interpretation of what may have been a Freudian spellcheck error. I guess we've all seen "beer melting" in the bc before....
It was dog deep, my little black dog is 17 in at the shoulder, and in places he was subsurface!  What fun to have fresh snow this early.  Mike suggested he had only missed 3 months of skiing at Mission, I guess I'm in the same boat.  A few more pictures,  don't know if this will last but it sure was a great way to start winter skiing.

...Two days later, our son Phirin (pronouced 'feer-in') was born.  Good timing.  Mother and baby are doing very well, and 21-month old big sister Norie seems OK with the new addition.

ROCK ON ALLY and KAM!!!
Can't wait to see him. How about a shot with Phirin and Norie together :)

Congratulations!
Good meeting you too Lisa, Pete's doing OK

Best video of the year so far Carl! Way to get us all pumped for what lies ahead. Hopefully I'll be up there Friday with some buddies....maybe see some of you up there!

Yes! Very entertaining.
Congratulations, Allyson and Kam!  Good timing, indeed!

... the more vague it is, the better... I think the current management for skiing on Mt. Rainier is quite permissive. There is no actual restriction in place, and as long as everyone plays nice it's likely to remain so.

If there's no regulatory restriction on skiing relative to snow depth in the Superintendent's Compendium, then why is that "str...
Ruth is well known at MR and her husband is a doc for the patrol as well. Nice folks and Dr. Rossi did a very nice job fixing my knee.
First, I love how you included the actual paper clipping. Very cool.

Second, I was so excited to see who those cute kids belonged to! Their mom is Ruthie Mahre! You might have heard a thing or two about her twin brothers Phil and Steve. Or perhaps you might remember their grandpa, Dave, who was one of the great American alpinists of the Golden Age. Ruthie is the sweetest woman and a real hero of mine. I got to have her as  a student of mine while teaching at the University of Puget S...
oh yeah, and then three mule deer bounded across our path!  What a day!

I'm sure most of us will try to be "respectful" in the coming weeks, but there will come a point (hopefully!) when long sections of the rock-lined trails will no longer be visible, even though the snowpack is less than five-feet deep.  I was just trying to alert folks that this has been a sore-point in the past.

Note that our passion is so remote and foreign to par...
It was a great time! Only a short time of meanderings around pebble creek in the white out before we were on our way up. Dry cold smoke snow in October, who could ask for more.

My one blister will heal, the raw skin was unhappy with the chaffing but duct tape was an easy fix. Hope your buddy is feeling better today.

Glad to meet you guys and thanks Zach and DOD for the good times!

Fun Times

Those poor edges need some love!
Sweet, thanks man. And yep, can't figure anything out for sure til you're there!
It was variable, a group passed us as we were transitioning, and probably got some sun at camp. It was partly cloudy and sunny for a couple hours, and then we had snow flurries when we were getting ready to leave. You can watch the weather and use it as your guide, but you don't know until you're there.

It was in the best interest of the group to head down. We could have continued on and been fine. It is cold up there, so pack warm gloves and jackets. I think everyone had co...
So was the weather that bad up at 9000ft? Trying to decide if it's worth going that high tomorrow, or just tour around a bit lower.
Nice video!  I was in a trio crossing paths with you guys... was a good ride.  Pebble Creek earned it's keep from me...  Here's my visual contribution and interior view of coombacks.
Thanks all for the pics and video... I was just another guy in a blue jacket.!

jtmaier & co.: Thanks for the morning track, much appreciated.

Afternoon turned out to be great, we got 4 runs off Heliotrope in spectacular dry powder, the top turns were a bit wind crusty but the rest of the runs were awesome.

I will add more pictures later but these two show the snow quite well:
