It's still climbing season, it's still climbing season, it's still...dammit!  Not working.

Great photos Darin.  I praise and curse you at the same time.
Pure dedication... Standards who cares... You earned it!!! Makes me feel bad for bailing on my bid because of a busy work schedule!! Well done!
That's earning your turns!...
Stugie!  Man, been a long time.  Nice to get an update and glad you're getting the early goods.

This made me feel both like a bad-ass and dumb-ass at the same time.

That's awesome. To me, that nicely explains what the expression "half-assed" actually means.

Seems like October has favored the agile and given a stiff wet finger to those that didn't quite have the flexibility to jump into action during the week or other small favorable we...
TAY should have a "Like" button! :D
Your mother says "Shape up!"; you should have done at least two more laps!  She said take her along and you won't get by with a single track in the snow.
Interesting weather.  Last week the flow in the Nisqually River was near an all-time 69-year flow (for this 2-week period) and yesterday and today the river hit all-time high flows, thanks to (1) 8-9 inches of precip a week ago that nearly saturated the soil and actually raised the water table but had no appreciable effect on river flow and then (2) 2 nights of 3+ inches of rain on 16 inches of snow at Paradise.  Logs come down river.
Our group turned around at ~6800 ft. At that point not only were conditions nasty (and only looking worse higher up) but there was also a steep rocky slope that I really didn't feel like skiing down. While the coverage was great lower on the mountain, higher up the rocky slopes combined with the wind exposure lead to some sketchy skiing.
Nice meeting you guys up there - we were the group of three that somehow persuaded ourselves and I think you guys that we should keep going for that extra 15 minutes... because there was certainly snow up there, right?? Once I got home and saw that the high at Muir was 32, I was glad we turned around... with that temp up at 10k, I figure the snow couldn't have gotten much below 9000, if it got that far down...
my final day of not owning a 4wd was also the first day of my winter season.

my 2wd and summer tires earned us an extra thousand feet of bushwhacking
The people that don't turn around sometimes don't come back.
I lived at Paradise all winter one time and the Boeing Ski Club had
an outing in similar conditions. Most of them turned around but one guy.
He kept going and was last seen above Pebble Creek. He is still up there.
They never found him.
Good to meet you Nick.

Best October snow I've had, especially the upper snowfield, which was shin to knee deep over firm hold-over snow.  Lots of people and dogs out, with the density decreasing with elevation.  Saw a few others make the top bench, but Nick and I had it to ourselves for about 1/2 hour and started down alone.

TLine was scheduled to go Fri-Sun, but the weather closed in.  Mountain operations was out track-packing,  pushing dow...
Eerily similar to our experience the day prior. Glad we went......but glad we turned around!
Yep that was pretty good! Thanks Chris for putting that together, and navigating! Sorry to hear about the rain, I thought you might end up with a few inches of the good stuff, but oh well. Good enough turns for October, good enough turns for 12 months! Congrats  ;D
Wow. Really nice video, Carl. Thanks for a great day guys!
You guys got it good! What a week, especially for October! ;D
It was nice to break up the Muir madness

Nice work sniffin that out.

I was just lucky to be along for the ride ;)
Speak for yourself Aussie...
Sir Yes Sir!
just a note to those environmentally sensitive folk....
Freebird does actually carry down and recycles all of his Alluminium :-)

(not sure if his hoop shooting technique can be worked on at all though....)
Nice work sniffin that out.
Now that is some sweet deep pow pow. 8) Nice to see the pooch getting in on the fun.
I especially liked the hungry look in Scott's eyes at about 2:30 - like a wolf after the prey...
wow.  October poster child non plus ultra.  nice timing!

"I don't really know why he's slowing down.?"

Good one.
That seemed to be top speed for the anti pistes that day. It did seem silly slow. Felt like you could have easily straightlined it to pebble creek, but what can I say? I like to turn.

And to Jason:
I did find it hard to believe there were so few people up there considering the repo...
Thanks for the encouragement!  It is amazing what a month can do, I was a little worried what October would be like after seeing Palmer in September.  Little did I know...

A few hardy folks had been out earlier, and maybe had better conditions.

fool-hardy anyway.  I went for a run last night and more or less skimmed the rocks everywhere it wasn't track-packed.
Beautiful, this makes me want to ski.
Pow Pow! Good times mate!  8)
Sweet Vid Davey! The siren song, was all to appropriate. It was a pleasure to serve under your Powder Patrol command  ;D
Thanks to everyone who broke trail!
Wow is all I can say!
The best snow I've ever skied on Muir ;D
Working on the video now...
Wow - looks a lot different than 1 month ago.  Great job with TAY

9/25/12 - Palmer

Powder and blue sky, you are one lucky guy.
Good luck getting to 24!
Well done!! Must feel good to have a year under your belt!
I have been thinking about Ruth, but not doing anything about it.  Looks like you had the perfect trip fall colors clear day and fluffy snow! thanks for the report.
Wow!

I'm in Hawaii and totally jealous. Can't wait to get home for snow.
Yeah, Dude. Syskyo'd.  8)
The pleasure coming down the snowfield MORE than made up for the pain getting down past Panorama Point.  Tonight I finally got time to look at my skis and voila! no core shots!

Most of the way up after Pebble Creek up to Anvil, we walked in the skin track, seeing no other features.  I knew the snow was going to be good, but I was also dreading the actual skiing down.  The last time I skied  inside the Muir ping pong ball, vertigo had me too sick to ski, and I had to wa...
That was such an excellent day 8}
That looks so great, I feel like a lazy bum, for not going out prospecting myself, thanks for the report.
