Saw you (I think) just above the top.
No issues with pollen? I certainly had some, not sure in what stretch. Skis spotty black on bases when I stopped to look, thick enough to be scrapable with a wax scraper and collected into gross little tarballs.
But other than that, yeah nice night out. Ideal temps and good nuff snow far as softness and support. Amusing to look down at the traffic stuck behind the blasting closure.
Today's dusk tour experiment: packed some summit mead rat...
nice effort!  liked the reflective write-up.  would like to hear a bit more re: the construction of the tarp-trench; did you use any structure to suspend your rainshell, or just stuff your legs in a cave and cover your torso w/ your jacket?

also, that's a great set of pics Mr Henne
Great weekend Patrick. I posted more pictures from the weekend here: https://plus.google.com/photos/102863503647661967510/albums/5875691296207735857

Thanks for the conditions update!

How far could you poke your pole into the snow at the top? was there any sort of crust on south slopes?

Not sure about the pole pen, but side slipping down, only a few inches went.  No crust on the south slopes, just some frozen areas in the shade.
Way to get after it John.  Wish I'd been there with you guys.

Great pictures Lowell!  My oldest daughter will be turning 10 this summer.  I hoping to get her on mountains like this by the time she's 12.  Great family activity!  I'm convinced that backcountry skiing is the solution to world peace and an even better remedy that provides family togetherness and peace :)
Son of a gun, that sunset photo is outrageous.
Great, great wanderings.

I'm having a tough time figuring out the Pamelia Lake permit system.  Any advice?

I meant to add a note in my opening post to clarify my findings because I also found it not very clear. What I learnt in a round about way, and confirmed at the TH (but only in very small font and barely visible) was that a permit is not needed before the Friday before Me...
As of yesterday you could drive to ~2700 on the Glacier Creek side, still more than two miles from the TH.

Nice work Tom, Dwight would have heartily approved of taking time to savor the experience.
Cool traverse!  Thanks for reminding me that I really want to ski the Boulder this spring.  I love that side of the mountain.

We wanted to ski the Park Headwall but it was covered in crusty mank so we dropped onto the upper Boulder and traversed around.

We skied the Park Headwall on Sunday, it wasn't too bad. Dense windpack is what we found. Firm but with enough bite to make it skiable--though there were some harder patches to look out for. As TrevorK said, if we hadn't...
Well you made that look easy.  Easy pass is obviously aptly named.
Good work, Franklin.  Maybe I'll have a look next week.  Thanks for the report!
Stoked.. you were the party of two from Vancouver?  Nice talking to you.  I'm sure your ski down was better than ours, but we did get some decent turns down low.

Oyvind, we drove to ~2800'ish, right before a bridge.  After that little patch is gone, you'll probably be able to drive about 1/2-1 mile further.

JoshK, sorry about the rain.  It's definitely worth going back for.
You skinned 10K at WEST?!? You sick bastard!

Bummer about Hyak; it's been my go-to spot after work lately. It was already patchy down low on Thursday, but still skiable. I figured last weekend would do it in. The good news is Alpental's wide-open now! Saw the lifts running yesterday. Patrol should be finished with tear-down by the end of the week, if they aren’t already.
10k at West, how many laps is that?!? Animal!  You'll be levitating up Silver soon!

B)
Nice. I think it was you we talked to on Grant Peak around 2 PM. Okay, now I know who Tom Sjolseth is.

Not sure what you mean by mank on the Park Glacier but it looked awful windblown on that side. The bottom half of the Roman Wall and Pumice Ridge was tranforming into nice corn when we descended.
Nice pics, Jim!  What a great couple days. This trip is worth the views alone.

Checked out Hyak before heading home, it's getting lean.

The comparison between coverage at West and Hyak is helpful for planning - thanks for the information!
What a difference a couple days (and direction) makes! I went in from the ski area with the intent of doing this the opposite direction a few days before you. The forecast "mostly sunny" turned to overcast and rain. The next day the sun came out and things were so slushy we bailed. Nice job Tom and Sergio, it looks like a very worthwhile traverse and I'll certainly have to return with better conditions!
Very cool, and gorgeous pictures. I remember doing this same trip many, many years ago. It's a haul in there!! Very cool area and well worth the distance though. I remember the view down to the Stehikin area being quite dramatic.

can you drive to the bathrooms now?

As of Friday the 3rd, you had to park 3+ miles away (2500ft level). Not sure what how the hot weekend improved access.
beautiful trip. have to get out there someday.
Way to get after it, looks beautiful out there!  Your names came up multiple times on Sunday while imbibing beverages in lot 4 at Alpy :)

Oh, man o' man.  Stunning.  Thanks for the blog link.  Just killing it.  Again!
Awesome trip, Kyle! The photos on your blog are very fine!
love that song - no video of the dance party ?
Wow! What a fantastic trip. You got some great photo's with all the good weather.
Hey Tom - good one guys - can you drive to the bathrooms now?
good trip Franklin !  careful on those creek crossings ;-)
happy on your behalf, envious of your exploits !!
animal!

Wonderful trip report on your website; thanks for sharing such spectacular photos of places I'll never go.

wild man!
Just another jaunt in the Park for Mr. Miller.

Wow.
Nice Lowell, the views turns and company looked great.  I have been itching to go for a ski there, you have provided more incentive, thanks for the post.

It's remarkable how few people go to the true summit.

True!  Most everyone stops at the crater rim.

Were you really unaware that there were probably around 300 people just on the other side of Monitor Ridge?

Yup. It's a big mountain. It's remarkable how few people go to the true summit. It looked like a few on foot had been up there, but we never saw them.
That's pretty damn awesome!

What I was really wondering was how to get into your car for the chips on the drivers seat!  What a tease ; -)

;D
Thanks for your note at the car fwb.
Great trip with a great partner/skin track setter/trail breaker.

Fantastic views! Thanks for sharing the great photos and detailed trip report.
Glad you guys got in and out.  Even if you had some subpar skiing, you had awesome views!
I was wondering how the summit block and the Not Easy Pass ascent would go.

author=Lowell_Skoog link=topic=28474.msg119745#msg119745 date=1367900729]St Helens is a mob scene most of the time.  Finding it deserted was a delightful surprise.

It seemed like Mt St Helens belonged to us for the day.  A rare treat.

Thanks for this TR! Were you the guys on Shannon Ridge at 8am-ish? We (the sleepy campers) had gotten up to the notch before the traverse before the glacier around 3am. Nothing had firmed up over night and we figured going for it would have been more slog-tastic suffering than we wanted. (Moonrise and a couple of meteorites were beautiful though, and totally worth being up at that hour.) You...
