Just wanted to add my congratulations to the Dorais brothers. Very impressive effort and I enjoyed your stories. You guys have great attitudes!
Regarding speed touring, there's huge potential for it in the Cascades, but it will probably never be "popular." I expect that Mt Rainier will remain the primary focus.
I haven't tried for speed records, but I find "flow days" inspiring.

I like the pictures and am Jealous of the speedy corn.
Very cool. This one is an essential trip on my bucket list. Thanks for the report!
I saw the results of your slide, as I was headed for home on Sunday, and took this picture. I also took another shot of an entire basin that went east of the chutes.

I second that!!!! :D The little chute off of Headlee is super fun to ski. Best turns of the day by far. Def would like to get back that way again soon. Several other cools lines up there too.
I was also up there this past Sunday with a large group of 10 others + 4 dogs.

Nice work! Downey Creek was pleasant last year. Sucks to hear it is full of blowdowns now - there's already plenty of that to be had along Bachelor Creek.
Thanks for sharing that pic.
Dang that chute looks pretty full compared to the times we hit that in June. Nice job. Last time we hit that in June the choke was ski width wide and no way to side slip or our boots would boot out. Add lightning and thunder storm and it was an epic. Glad I had a baseball hat and sunglasses for protection. 8)

I rented a sea kayak in Australia for 10 days, and a full body, chartreuse lycra 'stinger' suit came with it, ostensibly to protect against the box jellyfish. My initial reaction was WTF?
After a few days, I found myself lounging in my Green Man Suit, perhaps a bit too often.
Damn, I kinda miss that thing.

I've gotta find my old Lycra from early 80's climbing days. If I put it on and go anywhere - there will be speed records set by everyone running away!
Nice work and great telling of the trip! Scary to read about the wind gusts up there on top.

Lots of grousing by the locals...
... these guys showed up and stomped.
Classic Old Man on the Back Porch quote from a thread that's been all compliments so far re: this incredible feat. Throw that sour milk out, slip into a little lycra, and rub your hands all over your streamlined body. No poopy diapers with full lycra!

Probably because most Washingtonians have no interest in wearing a lycra suit.
Now you've gone and spoiled your birthday present.

Fantastic adventure, and beautifully written! Thanks for sharing. :)
I hiked Green Lakes trail on Sunday. Continuous snow started around 6,200 ft. Met two guys coming down from SW ridge of Broken Top. They booted up and didn't skin. Not sure why. I hope to get to S Sister for turns weekend of 6/15.

I really have no idea why the route detoured over to the Winthrop. Given it was our first time on the route, we opted to follow the established bootpack (hoping to save some energy) in lieu of taking the direct route up the Emmons. The Emmons was in great shape, with minimal crevasse hazard, and route finding on the descent was pretty straight forward. I didn't see evidence of a big...
Word to the wise: don't go back! 8)
Thanks for the great pictures, and report, it gives me inspiration to get going, and do that trip. thanks
Must have missed you yesterday, Silas! I was near Chinook Pass yesterday :)

Thanks for the report, we're looking at doing this in the next couple weeks. Why does the boot-pack go over to the Winthrop? Many years there is a huge crevasse across the top of the Emmons. Did you guys find a good route to ski over/around it?

r/e Silas's initial thread on the melting exit route...at the bottom i have found it usefull to aim for the small tarn near the PCT there is a small gully leading to it that holds the snow..then you are a just a few tromps from the trail

Nicely done, guys! The photos are stunning and you made quite the push for the summit in the conditions you had. Congrats!
Dusk patrol today, the 10th. Not sure we need a whole new report ...
Unable to figure out the puzzle of how to get thru lower Windy Acres from where PCT goes into forest without epic brushing, so gave up, returned to TH, and went up the (long, winding) road. Took longer but uncomplicated. A few short snowless gaps early but then easy skinning all the way up. Transition into lower basin still went on snow ... barely.
Surreptious Silver Snowstrip on skiers right down Annette...

I will admit to occasionally riding "the board thing," but most of the time it's two planks for me. My partner, on the other hand, is a dedicated "thing" rider. I'll leave it for those to figure out which were the ski tracks and which were the board tracks ;)

Beautiful ski tracks. Those board things are ok too I guess.
Great job on the climb and the photography. We spoke with you in the parking lot on Saturday evening -- I guess you were more determined to summit than you let on at the time!
Looked like a great trip despite the winds and firmness. Kept you heads up I'm sure! Beautiful pictures.
My guess is you're gonna be booting quite a bit, but I'd still bring my gear if I were you. Can't tell you how many times I've been hiking only to regret not having my gear.
I love the second picture of the basin. I bet that place holds the snow forever.

Thanks [...] especially for the "glissades of shame" phrase. I'm sure I'll be borrowing that.
LOL, you beat me to it! I'm going to rip that one off, as well. ;)

see any tracks or skiers on the Emmons/Winthrop up high? Just wondering if anyone braved the weekend's windy forecast and got in a ski off the top.
I ran in to a couple at Muir who had gone to the crater rim on DC. Let's just say their report on conditions made me glad that I decided to work on a car Saturday ;)
Thanks Pete for the reminder and intel.
I compared your pics to the 2008 pictures I had. The date was a week later and lot less snow in Tamanos. Anyhow that is a long walk then add a jog on the end. Whew! I would have thumbed it.

Thanks for the photo, Silas. I'm sure it's the first time that a New Iberia (Louisiana) High School Yellow Jackets cap has graced the pages of TAY.
