I was surprised to have the ridge and west slopes to the lake to myself.
It was a beautiful day.

I should have cleaned my skis from Sunday's trip as the pollen had me moving quite slow on the lower slopes. Could have used some graphite wax, it's in the pack now.
You can still ski from the ridge into the Humpback drainage via a finger of snow a bit down ridge. Thanks, Obi Wan Wild.
Nice work.  I look forward to Father's day skiing with my daughter in about a decade or so. (Hopefully!)

This has got to be some kind of a TAY record for consecutive daily trip reports from a single location.  :D  Let's keep it going!
Chatted with you guys on Sunday and was surprised you were turning around so early.

I guess you were saving energy for something bigger. Very impressive!
Just too nice day to keep moving.

Perfect.  I love it.

Because after being airlifted from the middle of the Pickets due to a busted binding no one wants to be chastised by the TAY community for not having a shovel, beacon, probe, first aid kit, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, expedition down jacket, 3 days food, stove, gps, spot beacon, ice ax, crampons, and glacier gear.

This made me laugh.

I’ve always been puzzled why more Washingtonians  are not interested in speed touring.  Ski touring is the most efficient way to travel through the mountains.  Why aren’t we utilizing the light gear available and celebrate that?  More one day traverses, more speed summits.  Inspire us more Dorais brothers!

This is just amazing.

Reminds me of a beautiful day in 1988 climbing Mt. Blanc. My guide and I had just summited and were coming back down a steep little step at 15,000 feet. Just as we get to the flat, we see a helicopter and of course wonder is everyone all right.

Then notice they are actually filming and here is this petite gal running up the mountain wearing spandex and running shows while we were roped up in crampons (perhaps overkill but I was a guided client). She se...

I have always wonder this as well. There is some beaut...
Didn't mean to open this can of worms! I agree, it would be cool to see this motivate a speed record spree like the Grand Teton has in the past. And I also agree that Uli probably has a slightly stronger "motor" but doesn't skimo so that brings up a whole other topic; running vs skiing on snow. My main point was: just give the guys a hand for the impressive feat, instead of saying good job, oh by the way your splits weren't that fast, and Uli could go faster!  Of course,...
Nice Robie!
Yeah this guy had his skis on his back in like a red ski bag with pack straps.
Not sure how comfortable his method would be, but I was gawking going by the other way so hard to get a good look.

Wow!!  This is very impressive.  Big congrats.

I’ve trail raced against Uli and didn’t see him much after the start of the race.  Same with Jason at Vertfest this year.  I think Uli could of given this record a challenge if he could ski.  I don’t think he skis and I’m not sure if he does he can still challenge these brothers.  Even if you have the engine it takes time to be fast in a...
Yeah, it's a bit of a trudge into the lake these days but the skiing is still nice once you're there. We skinned up the back side of Dragontail on 6/1/12 and found nice skiing all the way up & down, similar in quality to Colchuck Gl. The run down from the Aasgard Pass on skier's left is still holding snow nicely with no cracks or open water yet (as of last Saturday). Two of our party also skied Little Annapurna, trying to stay away from fist fights and name-callling with the n...

Those brother's get total props. What a record! They are also very humble and talk about their record being broken - perhaps down to 3:30. Maybe they will be the ones to do that - they are the right age. But yes, I think the race is on and I'm looking forward to it. In the 70's, 3 of the best rock climbers in the world climbed the Nose in a Day on El Captain -  and it was a BIG...

Avajane, nothing against Uli, he is a stud, and I'm sure he would be impressive if he decided to take up Big mtn running.  But this is on a rather large glaciated peak, not a trail in the woods.  Gotta give props to the Dorais Bros, these guys are freaky fast. Any doubts? Try racing one of them in a rando race some time, you'll see what I'm talking about. Nice work Andy and J...

I can't believe someone else hasn't already posted today about Silver.

I think it's safe to say Silver's getting skied daily at this point ;).

That really is an amazing speed, it defies my imagination.  Incredible, one day effort, and a huge commitment to prepare, well done!
Wow what an effort. And you guys aren't "runners" or "skiers"?

In my struggle to comprehend, I quickly geeked out and went to Map my Run where I found:

They did about 20 minute miles to Camp Muir.

They averaged 30:44 minute miles to the Summit.

On the descent they averaged 6:20 miles -  which is a good downhill running pace.

It took them 15 minutes to ski from Camp Muir to Paradise  - That's about 15MPH
Congrats, guys. 3:57 is straight up ridiculous. And no more sneaking into Vertfest as some anonymous guy from SLC, Jason.

Don't get me going..
I saw a guy riding a motorcycle with skis on his back while I was going home one of the days of the week. Is that your setup Robie?
Gotta love that beautiful area. Nice ski.
You must have been the group of three with the dog that I saw leaving when I was getting ready to head up.  Some awesome sunset turns were made even awesome-er  :D by a generous beer donation from Dicey and Big Steve at the usual hang out spot on the ridge.
Holy smokes very impressive physical and mental accomplishment!
Need to get you guys on the universal XC team and bring home some hardware to whatever planet you guys are from!

wow that's a good read.  I think I would have enjoyed cheering for these guys.
Awesome:

Rainier is one thing.  Now I'd like to see what you guys can do with the North Cascade high traverses  ;D

Inspiring work!

Thanks for sharing.

Wow, It's really melted out this year compared to last year at this time.

Keep me on your partner list :-)

Even thought I'm not in your neck of the woods, I'm crazy and willing to get up uber early to ski.
Hey, Andy, thanks for posting this.  I was the one you talked to.  It was Robie who spotted you, though.  He told me to go talk to you because you "just looked" like you were prepping for a speed climb.

Big congratulations on your new record.  Not only did you beat the old record, you blew it away.
Looks great!  Dry trail to the lake?
Amazing effort!

My lungs hurt just from reading that.
Yeah, there were a lot of people up there last weekend.  We did a complete circumnavigation of Naches Peak and a few laps in the bowl on the NE side. There is a lot of snow up there.  There was also a lot of small slide activity as the day warmed up.  We saw a quite a few point releases and slow moving wet slides.  There are still cornices along the ridge to Naches Peak, and we chose to not travel beneath them.  Others were more daring or less concerned.

Sounds a little sketchy up high.  Were you not concerned about wet slides on that slope in the unconsolidated snow?
I think you are right, the headwall proper is the face we booted up and Hannah and I skied. Ben took a variation down the more easterly face, through the rockbands.
Is it me, or does every TR for this area include stunning photos?

The snow formations on that photo of Kyes peak proper are dreamy and the one skiing the chute off the ridge is rad.
Yeah Ben and company!

I'm still slightly confused as to where the park headwall begins and ends. I always thought that it was the slope you see from baker ski hill, and only the profile was viewable while going up the cleaver. Not saying it's not the hw, just that I don't know. Neat to be able to ski off the summit lump regardless.

Seconded! The shot of the cliff is gorgeous. Nice work!
My bases were covered with crap, I cleaned them last night.  Then again, maybe it was from my previous trip in Bean Basin as I haven't cleaned them in a while.  I thought others in my group were having difficulties as well though.

My bases were clean after going up and down several snow fields, gullies and bowls on Silver on 6/4 (no goo gone needed ; -) but perhaps it's because I haven't waxed my skis for a while...?

My bases remained clean too.  I also haven't waxed my skis in a very long time.
Wow, that's some cool photography.  Details?
Not that I'm a regular, but the route that seems easiest is similar to the summer trail but with shortcutting involved in places where the summer route takes maddeningly long switchbacks or wastes elevation. Go up various rolls and aim for the saddle tween main summit and Little Pilchuck (but not exact lowest point, go just a bit higher E). Cross to S side, one 50' steep bit to boot,  then gradual rising traverse to lookout. This did remain all on snow and was easily skinnable (or...
We did not see any below ~5500, so I'm guessing no, especially after the last 3 days.  Hope that helps.
Where does the normal route up to the lookout go? Up to the notch east of the peak then drop down and go up the SE gully? Or is there an easier way (on snow)?

Lots of bugs there this evening! They were bad up until about 4800ft.

Is there snow at Morrison Camp?
