Thank you for sharing, Oregonist. You've got some great photos in the full TR on your website. Love the play on depth of field (branch with Crater Lake in the background) and your dog in the mirror ;-) Of course, the fire rainbow is phenomenal - last one I saw was in Mammoth Lakes, CA, years ago. Cheers...
Now on the home page, thanks for the photo Radka!  Great trip report.

That looks like fun! Much better that climbing up or down the rockpile there. Nice timing.
Lots of smooth snowfield most of the way, but very and variably grabby on the thin layer of new snow on the low angle slopes. The face of pan point was more fun, using the narrow chute along side a deep glissade trench. The narrow on-snow approach to the skier's left face will be melted out in a day or two, and the other one already requires a hop over some grass.  Marmots sun bathing on the melted out hill below. Still all-snow to the Visitors Center lot from there.
I think I've seen that happen, but it was not contrails in this case. There were cirrus clouds across the sky that day.
That sluff photo is excellent!
glad i heard about this gathering at the last minute in time to pack up my family into the parts van and get up there  to watch the sunset from the drive in.  i feel like i've neglected the snoqualmie pass area this season, so it was cool to check out a new zone and camp with some new folks.  we had a great time.

my attempt to capture the solstice supermoon... one of these days i'll remember to bring a tripod.
Ski Tourista would be the proper form ?
Thanks to savvy Dave Thomas for the assist.

Watch out for touristas .

When I am in the Tatoosh, I am always watching out for females visiting there for pleasure, you too?  :)
("tour·ist  /ˈto͝orist/  Noun  A person who is traveling or visiting a place for pleasure."  tourista=female tourist?)

Can the guy (Francois?) who picked up Tim's Sonycam and Lumix lens near the cars please post or PM me so we can get it back to him?  Thanks.

Silas, I work with Francois.  I'll talk to him on Monday about getting back Tim's gear.

We got a late start.  We reached the ridge just as the masses were skiing down and were the last ones down...
some kinda evenings are just blase, this one was on fire.
left top early in order to get out before dark with my young group but did enjoy sunset from a nice point in the meadows.
saw most everyone either up top or on way down so that was nice:-)

maybe one more left in me silas;-)

It's a form of pollution.  Permanent contrails.

The thick lines in your photos formed behind airplanes, correct?

The thick lines spread and turned into a haze of flat light.

I dig the positive outlook thought.
Last time we skied it, a week ago, we could skin up to the right in the 1st picture (just barely enough snow and 1 short carry).  We went all the way to McClure and skied down the roll and to skier's right around the blow hole in the 3rd pic.  A common descent from Muir snowfield is around skier's right of McClure, then under the rock and down skier's left (similar to summer trail); but that varies a lot with snow conditions.  This year a number of people have come down skier'...
Good turnout - I'd guess 15-20 folks for the snow portion and 10-15 who stuck around for the post-sunset campfire. It was nice finally putting faces to usernames and even nicer having a well-tread track and bootpack to follow.

Jim - there was one main line in that area, but it's going fast. Probably best advised to climb your line to make sure it actually goes (then lap via the easier route up the NW bowl).

I think this about sums it up:
Sorry I missed it this year, though we had fun at home with friends instead. Were any of the lines into the NE basin still worthy? Like that one you like just up over the treed(ish) knoll from that first drop off the ridge?

How big was the celebration?

So glad you guys had a safe rest of your trip and that I could help out. I'm also thankful you came out a day early and I didn't have to put your stinky asses in my car. You guys were already ripe after only 5 days....Can't wait to see some more pictures especially the comparison of organizational style shots!
Congrats guys!

It was great running into you and I'm stoked to see that you made it over Fortress.

Cheers!

Trevor
Way to make the most out of a June in the Northwest. You'll always remember this one! Great job. Inspiring...
That is quite an adventure. You guys really put yourselves out there. I'll bet the weather was a nearly constant object of conversation.
Thank you, Silas, for the teaser. Anyone up for a dawn patrol tomorrow (Sat)... gotta be back in Bellevue at 2 pm...
Thanks for the story, stoke and motivation!
Your great TR reminds me of a comment I made after Lowell's Dream Payoff in July 2007.

"It's interesting to see how plans and goals change as you move along the journey of life.    :) "
The pics from the old days are great!
WOW!!! Inspirational to say the least.

I love these stories. Just a couple bros doing something big!! Far out!!
words aren't enough sometimes! i'm sure you can relate as you type a TR. :)

atta boy!
You guys are too tough for words, that is a suffer fest of spectacular proportions.  When you finish an adventure like that, a big trip takes on a whole new meaning.  Thanks for the report, and congrats!
Thanks for the epic write up of your oddesy! That went great with my coffee this am.

Way to push on. Couldn't have had a bettter man to guide you theough then forrest. Sounds like a great adventure.
Holy shite Kyle.  Again!  Quite impressive.  Please - give us a presentation and the details somewhere, sometime.  Would love to see it and congratulate you and team personally.  A very fine adventure.
What can I say? badass photography of the camps especially. Thanks!
FWIW - I always considered the American Alps Traverse to have two major variants. The other one starts at Rainy Pass and follows the Mt Logan High Route to Cascade Pass. Then it goes south to Glacier Peak. That was the trip that Carl and I attempted in 1991. We bailed out near Mt Logan due to crummy weather (photos below). That variation would be worthwhile as well.

Congratulations on your trip, Kyle and Jason.

It's too bad that Forest wasn't able to go when the time came.

To James... you are a saint for supporting the trip like you did.

I remember being obsessed with this trip. But I made peace with my obsession after I completed my Baker-to-Rainier project.

A single push proved to be a poor fit for my lifestyle. It's terrific that you've been able to seize this time in your lives to achieve...
Woohoo!  Stuff like this makes me want to celebrate.  This is truly a great thing.  I look forward to hearing more about this and seeing more pictures... it is quite historic.  My admiration for the two of you grows with each of your adventures.  Nicely done.
Awesome work as always - You two put the A in adventure...
What a trip! Congratulation on pulling off this impressive feat.
Holy crap -- hell of a trip Jason & Kyle, nicely done!  Very, very inspiring.
Now that is one impressive trip!  This is like old west, Sahara desert, Ernest Shackleton-esk adventuring!  It's so easy to believe that everything has been done and there are few adventures left to be had.  Thankfully, that is not the case.  Thanks for the inspiration boys.
I know they can't stop through visitors but the bus only goes two days a week now and is filled to the brim with volunteers.

Things are different but it is still the same old Holden.
That's living the dream.

But what does this mean.....

"visitors are against the rules during summer months for the next 3 years"

Can you still catch a bus there?  Or is it simply you can't dine and overnight in their infrastructure?
Kyle your adventures make me want to quit my job.  Congratulations and well done to you both.  Amazing!
Wow. Wow.  Wow.  Congratulations on an epic achievement.  Over many years, I've visited most of that terrain.  But on foot and involving six or seven weeklong outings.  So I realize on a visceral level what you have accomplished.

You have reason to be proud of this accomplishment and for us to be proud as well.
wow guys.... wow.  what a gigantic trip!
Awesome adventure Kyle. Crazy times. Thanks for being a good sport and putting up with so much 'traversing'. It was an epic for sure. Loved that you put up with my route over the summit of fortress mountain. That was among the best days for me.

Excited to edit through all the imagery, too. Since I'm long winded, it will likely take me a month to put a trip report together.

Thanks for the inspiration Lowell.
Well done and well written, thanks for sharing.
