Anyone else get much pollen on their skis?
Yes. Our skis were gumming up way above Cascade Pass. I took a few pictures of the cleaning process when I got home.

Pretty lucky for me avoiding the pollen all spring.
Nick, it was good to see you up there. My Vector got heavy coat of pollen this time. The extruded fish-scale seems to pick up more even though it's not porous like the sintered. Time to take my old Atomics, i guess.
Thanks, Amar.
Quite a display that day! The luckiest experience I've had was skiing through a rainbow (at least it felt like we went all the way through) in the Cascades one spring day.

Nice job with the line to Doubtful Lake for Mr. Bird and partner. Tough climb out? I always wondered how it would go.
NickD,
The climb out from Doubtful was no problem. We were able to skin up about 650VF, to the base of a steep little Rock/Snow head wall, that we booted up. The ski down to the lake is definitely worth the short walk back up to the Arm ;)

That should produce files that are small enough to upload to TAY.

Ugh, that sucks - sorry about the cold injury. I'm planning on upgrading my splitty boots very soon, but not ready to go with hard; about to order the Deeluxe Spark XVs.
Unfortunately, all of my image files are way too big. Anyone know any tricks for making picture files smaller on iphoto?

Nice, Bird!
It was great to see old and new faces up there! Got to love the TAY community!
The skiing was so good... I think I will head back this weekend :)
As my wife and I were skinning up the Arm, I looked at the slope to the east and thought it looked like the best run off Sahale, by far.
A moment later you guys skied it. I'll have t...

is this is where that giant pillow size pack of shot bloks we saw you with by the side of hwy 20 got you?
Far out!
Nothing better than living off the lands and a fine assortment of Clif products for 16 days. It was an honor and I can't believe the weather turned out the way it did.
Would love to hear about your adventure.

Amar,
Thanks for the TR and all the info on halos. Here is a photo of a tangential pair later that day, looking high in the sky west over Puget Sound from Seattle at about 7 pm, so one may have been at the zenith and the other at 22 degrees? What do you think? Amazing displays of sun dogs, halos til sundown.

From Muir Camp on Rainier on Saturday I also noticed the 22* halo as well as the circumhorizontal arc, although like Paulina referred to them as 'rainbows in the sky' having no idea what I was actually looking at.
Very informative TR. great to learn something new!

Well done young fellas! Glad it was a couple of born and raised Washingtonians, and cool to be both a skier and a boarder. Great to see Kyle out partying tonight, and already planning to return to Glacier Peak later this week for more lines. As I heard the world's most interesting man mimic'd: "stay thirty my friend."
Nice work, I was up there as a group of 4 on the 8th. We descended at 11 and the snow was already sloppy. A couple of big slides had already occurred from previous day and looked skier triggered and we triggered most of the rest of the slope, though they were manageable wet slides. I found the rock to be mostly solid, with a section or two of loose rock that got my attention. We camped below the bootpack, so did a few evening laps on the slopes below meany crest an...

Thanks for the detailed answer and photo, that's useful info to know that rocks are loose at times in basically the same spots where everything has seemed solid on my trips.
Could this perhaps be f(x) of temp?

On my future Little T summits, I'll make sure to retain the high degree of caution I had the first time up there, and not trust the rock blindly just because it has seemed to be solid on previous trips. Might as well retain the typical warnings of loose rock in the guidebook too.

As Silas identified, we were the old skiers and tourists in the UK. ;)
The FreeBird video entry at the West slopes was great. His segment on the falls was awesome. Great time being there. ;)

Nicely done, Amar. Thank you for posting about solar halos; I definitely learned something (as per usual) from an Amar Andalkar TR.
Thanks all for your comments!

The way that I've gone each time does not aim straight towards the summit, but instead goes up and right to the top of the east ridge near 11100 ft (the summit is 11138 ft). It then traverses west toward the summit on entirely solid rock, intersecting the final chimney to the summit only about 8-10 ft below the top, and the rock remains soli...

We spent 4 days touring around the area. Coleman pinnacle was a mank march on rainy Thursday the 13th, certainly not the best choice to introduce the area to my guest from Europe; steep line to skiers right of prow below Table was great, Friday the 14th. Herman up the SW side and down E SE was wonderful Saturday after a hard freeze. Opted out of Fathers day march up Herman saddle but heard it was pretty runneled.

We were up there on the 13th. The new snow made things sticky so we went for a walk and ran into some kayakers :D
That is pretty intense. Pretty fortunate to see that action. Didn't know that they dropped that falls. I would have had the phone already dialed 91 and ready to push the last 1!

Awesome report. Awesome photos. Makes me really want to go up there.
Nice work!! I was there 2 weeks ago, I was still able to ski all the way to the PCT at that time. I had the unconsolidated mush as well, a bit spooky! The boot up the wets face is surprisingly fast, I think easier than slogging in snow along the north ridge. Get the corn while you can!!
Seems like there was a lot of color everywhere on Saturday. These were the women we had a chat with on Paradise Gl
