Awesome work!!! I hate that flat bench in the foreground of your 1st photo. :)
That looks like great fun! Makes me lonesome for my kid to ski with, enjoy, they slip away all too soon!
Lowell, thanks for the report, another storied spot I need to ski. I think your boot carry is a little better than binding mounted. Me, I would rather eat dirt than fight my skies through brush, and almost always carry them on my shoulder unless I'm on steep terrain. That also makes room on the outside, back of my pack to put my boots, making them less susceptible to brush snagging as well. There are a few down sides, one of which is cracking your skiing partner in t...
Congratulations; two days for Glacier is a pretty good pace. Those switchbacks are a HUMP in the heat.
Thanks for the post, Doug. I am on the DL list for a while (strained ligament in ankle) and this might now be on my list for July streak-maintenance.
The run out is everything if you aren't sure about not sliding all the way to the bottom--serious consequneces.... Do you really think you could self arrest with axe of whippet...false sense of security? Hummmm
Thanks for the cool report and pics...

Wow... I saw the same Family last weekend.
Was the line still open Gary and Jeff skied followed by you... the narrow line on the East side of the bowl?

I'm thinking of heading up tomorrow morning early.

Nice carry system. I'm going to try it.
Thanks for the Beta. I'm debating where to go tomorrow and this could be a good option.

good to see you too Kyle. nice of you to be the waterboy for your crew up there.
It was awesome seeing you guys up there.
Must admit I had a blast hanging out on the warm rocks and being the unofficial waterboy of camp Sherman.

Great to see you and Ross saw the tumble rather then experiencing. ;)
author=Pete A link=topic=28927.msg121705#msg121705 date=1372681863]....the first skier of the day coming down around 13,000-13,500ft was skiing surprisingly fast given the conditions...
But that's how they do it in the movies!
:(
Sorry. Hot button.
Great report Pete.
Great pics, great TR. Sounds like an awesome trip, glad it went well!
Yikes - glad the skier was okay. Nice work on getting the monkey off your back for a little while!

Nice to run into you again Gary, Jeff and Jan! It was another great day to be in the Olympics!
We enjoyed seeing you as well. Although our day didn't include skis, it was definitely a fun day in the mountains. Here's another shot of mom and her kids enjoying the great views.
We'll definitely be back up that way before things...
The Emmons is still in pretty good shape for skiing. A couple cautious snow bridge crossings but otherwise OK. Unfortunately on saturday morning a cloud settled on the mountain and left us just shy of the summit and unable to see much of anything until about 12,500 feet where we finally got to ski. Saw quite a few people coming in on skis and splits saturday around midday though, I hope they had some more success with the weather today.
Hey! Nice meeting you too. That's you crossing the deep sun cups.
Nice meeting / skiing with you
Pretty bad. Not the worst I've seen, but they provided plenty of motivation to keep moving. The only time they left us alone was when we were on the snow.
Nice trip report!

Hi .. I did take some photos but I won't be home for a few days to download the photos off my camera. Is there anything specific you are interested in? (I can post the photos on Tuesday..)
You didn't happen to take a photo of illumination rock did you?
If you did I'd love to see it.

You have a great eye, Radka.
We call our camperized Ford van (replaced the aging and simple eurovan with something we can stand in, with heat, fridge, and microwave) "Ramada"

Thank you all for your kind comments!
Dave - warming hut on wheels - I LOVE it! I think all of us were secretly plotting where we could take Westfalia in winter. I hope the owner realizes what he got himself into. Now he won't be able to get rid of us ;D

The thread's drifting into a "warming hut on wheels" (as we like to call our's) appreciation thread. The secret's out. ;D
Back on target: thanks for posting this one, this one is on "the list" and we were just wondering about the conditions...

Thanks for the tr, always nice to hear what the skiing is doing around the Sisters.
Nice, including your great photos. I've slept at that TH multiple times in a VW "weekender" Eurovan - no neato pop-top, but the foldout bed was sweet for that gig!
This is the kind of conversation I thrive for! Nice! I'm a believer on the glacier hypothesis. I think I must have been a glacier in a previous life ;D
I am a huge geography nerd and love the photos of the old glacial scars. Awesome to think that the enchantments used to be a huge Glacial Ice cap.
When Jason and I were traversing through the Agnes valley it was awesome to see the western mountains had huge rock faces on there SE slopes, no doubt from an ancient glacier.
Ale as I have said many times you continue to inspire so many people including myself. Keep on keeping on!

Awesome that you guys made it up Bedal! Way cool! I have not read any reports for Bedal since our venture there in March 2009. Yes the route is pretty rough, but the view of Glacier from up high is totally worth it if she's out. Great effort!
WOW!! Thank you so much for all the kind comments they are truly appreciated.
As with Ryan I am proud to be a Cascadian as our small mountain community has some of the nicest, most approachable people I have ever met.
At this moment we are working out some kinks to get a slideshow of the adventure together as well as a few other potential formats. This was an amazing experience and I am still wrapping my head around it as I watch the rain fall over the city skies.

Great report. My favorite mountain in the cascades.
Thanks for the tip of the hat, by far the most memorable trip i've ever had. But rad to see Sol and Ryan doing their thing. Now that looks like the hard way! Any way up or down anything in that area is spectacular.
Neat observation on the glacial retreat too. I've wondered about that, but never connected the dots.
Funny. Past couple seasons i've taken to using the verb j-tack, "j-tacking&quo...

The Tapatio traverse and the conquest on Mount Chimichanga? Kenji, you will have to explain that, I wouldn't even know where to start ;)
Thanks Radka, a perfect ending to our fun trip ;-) But no mention of the Mexican Alps we were aiming for??
Skiing was pretty good (sorry for weird color, the tracks were very faint):

Great day with the usual Bellingham Lovefest on the summit plateau.
Way to get after it in the summer, fellas. Mike, at the risk of yet another trip ambition turning me into a modern day ski Sisyphus, I still am inspired for the mythical, magical winter day when the trip is skiable across the lake and safe goodness from the top back to the lake.

Here are three more photos that might suggest the glacier explanation:
I find those photos convincing for the glacier hypothesis.
It's like an alpine bathtub ring.
It would be fun to kick back and stare at the crags and try to imagine the Snow Creek Glacier as it once was.
I'd guess these are the trim lines from the most recent glaciation aka the Little Ice Age. Maybe some geologist type could weigh in. Makes you wonder what the skiing would have been like in 1850 or so.
