Hey Bryan, was going to ask you how your enduro race went... was actually thinking of you as I was making my way up on Saturday.
I remember once I rode a night MTB marathon with a buddy of mine, and it rained so hard beforehand the clay soil wrapped around the tires so bad, the wheels wouldn't turn after only a few yards. We had to carry the bike uphill for a mile and were seriously thinking of going back down to the bar, the start of this fun race. The only thing that kept us go...

Good post and thanks for the report. I had similar thoughts while slogging through hell on earth at the Tiger Mountain Enduro on the same day - "if I hadn't already signed up", "but the other guys are toughing it out", "but think of the stories to tell", ... And honestly, it kind of sucked but some day down the road I'll probably be glad I have the memory.

Back at the parking lot and apres beers by 2:15, and home to a happy wife by 5:30 ish. Short day, good day. Thank you.
Great to hear it! Wish I could have gone with you guys. Still aching over missing it.
DCM and I left the parking lot about 10:30 Thursday, hit Pebble Creek at 11:30, and then had silky smooth snow from Pebble Creek on up, yesterday. Very nice! Saw a few familiar faces - Oyvind, Crustos and Cam (not THE Kam ;>)
We had views of the mountain on the drive up, then walked up in the cloud, which started thinning at about the 8000'. At turn around time, it lifted way up for good views and visibility on the ski down. The turns were fabulous, but...

Nice vid of Snoholic! Can't wait to see the full production!
Best Sept. turns for my book... hope it stays good for the weekenders.

Here's one of Zack, 24 hours later... Somewhat same zone.

Wow! Ten tayers toting (s)ticks. Beginning to sound alot like Christmas! I hope you saved some fresh tracks for us Sun worshippers...
Thank you for another informative TR, Amar. Wow, I learned a ton.
really appreciate those pics of a bone dry McCall Basin. keep thinking that this is prime habitat for a cabin or two ~ could make a mid-winter high traverse a thing of beauty.. 8)
Nice! Great mushroom pictures. For what it's worth, you can link directly to your pics on Picasa with the "IMG" tag:

I also snagged a pic of the ski lines on the lowest snowfield.
That was quite an entertaining description! Definitely better than doing chores. Nice work.
Thanks for the idea Wolfs, was nice to get something new in.

Skied the area on the 19th, and there is less snow than in these pics. Probably from all of the rain. But still super fun and much more of a remote feel than the Muir Highway!

You guys rock! I was up at clear lake visiting family from Yakima... hoping to drive up that road but was bummed to find it closed. I was hoping to scope it out for future adventures so thanks for the beta... it definitely looks like a great spot!
Jtack and I discussed "what counts as skiing" on our last trip. I think it requires skis and snow. 50 vertical feet in a blizzard? Awesome. I enjoyed the report!
Indeed great it was! Thank you Greg for 147 months. and people think we are crazy....days like this sure show them we are not! Gotta love this sport!

...but I was sure ready to get that bike seat out of the crack of my ass.
baHAHAHA!! ;D
The Goat Rocks Bike and Ski! An awesome trip. If you discount the bike, it was 16 miles for 1600 feet. 100 feet of skiing per mile walked. The exit was very very satisfying... coasting down the well graded road.. no effort, fast gravel.
Quite the contrast from last year's Aug and Sept turns out there. It was nice meeting the two of you on our way out from skiing Hadley the 31st. I was surprised the main chute was wiped out, forcing a down climb to link up the ski. I jumped on TAY because I was wondering where to find fun Sept. Turns, or maybe just retire at 119 months. Either way, I won't be up at Hadley Peak anytime soon. ;D

I always thought you looked like a tarantula, esp with the sun hat & whippets. The tarantula hawk was probably just a little hung over, having double vision, doubled your two legs & two whippets, shrunk your size, and whala! tarantula! MUST STING!! So a question still remains...do you feel like you're being consumed by a larva from the inside? Maybe it's taking longer since you're actually much larger than a tarantula? I want to be far a...
Is surfing on the itinerary - &, ride the gum trees
At long last it was time to ski, a bit after 1pm now. The snow conditions were fairly good, mostly corn, but obviously oversoftened in places given the high temperatures and late hour. The uppermost couple feet of snow had fallen about 10 days earlier, and although fairly well consolidated during the sunny weather since the last storms, it was still not fully consolidated into summerlike condition. The steep slope directly below the summit was sluffing a bit as we skied, making things slightly w...

I totally should have gone there. I ended up on Van Trump GL that day and I didn't see any new snow! And walked alot...
Nice! Jtack and I were watching you from the Goat Rocks. Great sky that day. Those whispy clouds made for good pictures. Enjoyed the pole ski shots in the video.
I'm guessing electrical work is the furthest thing from your mind. Keep the pics/reports coming as we are slaving away....
makes the 1" on the Muir snowfield I rode yesterday not as exciting. :) having fun?!!
Nice work doooder! Keep up the nice work and post some pics of Tex, too!

...Not to mention all the "Cascades approach racing stripes" you get from scraping encroaching alder (still like that?)
They actually weren't too bad - or at least, the rocks on the road kept our attention enough that I didn't notice!

THANKS FOR THE BUG REPORT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that is turns earned hard!
HATE that Cougar Divide road. I still blame that road for frying the manifold and headers of my Subaru Forester about 5 years back, relentless first gear climbing without getting enough speed to blow air through the radiator and engine. Not to mention all the "Cascades approach racing stripes" you get from scraping encroaching alder (still like that?)
Bugs also not remembered fondly ...

Wonderful effort and report! Bravo!
I did a couple of day trips out there last October, fantastic area.
Those six turns on the second run were totally worth the suffering! Thanks for a great trip and time.
Hard-working trip; excellent report. Hadley Glacier looks more bony but with more extensive coverage than last year.
Thank you :) I couldn't get pictures to load, so Brian T did it for me in his post
Hi Bel,
Welcome to TAY and thank you for your conditions update. Might have to head up there myself to get September turns.

Nice, wasn't thinking about that. Somebody has some language skills here. The cracked sign had me laughing when I came across it.
I like the fact that the last two photos bear witness to your TAY handle-- Schwerkraft=gravity, auf Deutsch ;)
Love the write up. This is an area I'll have to scope out. I'm not much motivated to go to Rainier due to crowds and this seems like a lesser known location. (Perhaps?)
SWEET! My new inspiration for later this month. Thanks and well done. And even more well written!
Congrats Mack!
We were hoping to run into you and Lisa on our way back in from Obstruction point on Sunday afternoon, sorry we missed you.
Glad the beta was helpful :)
