The number of words in that post is diametrically opposed to the number of people on the snowfield yesterday.

As always, it's good to know you went skiing today.
I was there to witness it!
Yeehaw!
Pretty fun to find muy max shreddable corn in November.

Runningcloud, thank you very much for the info. You are definitely right, and I'd add that I'd be quite concerned about what's happening beneath the ice ( in addition to the possibility of large direct action events during subsequent storms, as you note ).

I see, let's hope that will take care of the ice, fingers crossed.
cumulus, I hope so but I am not so optimistic.
Super fun day! The mountain rumbled constantly as we crawled upwards. We even had camp muir all to ourselves. A rare event. Thanks Norseman for the good times. Looking forward to more.
As always, great photos Norseman! The shot of the icy pavement doesn't look too enticing!
Ha! That's hilarious... I saw your yak track's print in the snow and I was puzzled what would make such a track... My trusty partner (Norseman) knew the answer! Yak Tracks.
Beautiful day.... Much better than expected. We were skiing down while you were heading up :-)

Yes, Nisqually chute skied great with no sharks but an abrupt end in boulders. Getting back to Glacier Point had me a little worried but ended up easy.
Thanks for the beta. Although I don't mind ice while skiing, hiking up icy conditions is not my thing.

we could hear them skiing from a mile away
funny!

This could prove to be a very problematic layer soon.
maybe...but with an indian summer around the corner maybe not

How do you think conditions will be up there this weekend?
Hopefully decent - looks spring cornish possibly. Won't know till you go!

Also, Glacier Creek Rd/NF-39 is open again after last year's closure, right?

so conditions look pretty decent considering the time of year. But has anyone been venturing farther up the mountain, possibly summit via the Coleman Deming, or is the glacier still somewhat destroyed by the summer?

Maybe I should ask Santa for a bobsled?!?!
If we're getting Santa involved, make it a rocket sled!

I seem to recall an early last winter report of yours that included some nasty blisters and an icerink walk out from Lake Colchuck. I'm a little disappointed that you aren't now carrying micro-spikes as standard safety exit gear. You should tell Santa that's what you want to see in your stocking this year!
You're right Mike - I d...
I'd imagine the crevasse situation is a little sketchy on the Interglacier right now
Rad Photos Leyland.
Hopefully next time we go out, there'll be lower snow levels. The floors got put off a week so I could be into something this weekend as well

I'd be drooling over interglacier....unless the approach sucks? does the trail get you close enough to the snow? but those pics of steamboat have me wondering about that long looking decent.
how awesome would it be for a Lodge/Snocat operation in the White River area? There are only two major slide paths that could cause somewhat regular concern. just makes me wish a NP-Citizen-Nonprofit situation was more possible with the National Parks.

Nice job getting after those early turns!! I enjoyed the tuck as well! 8)
A few pics here won't hurt ;)

Is tucking really worth the vertical effort?
bet it is worth every bead of sweat and miles driven.
thanks for sharing, Donnelly
Beautiful terrain out there. I love the dirt shred photo - classic!
Those gullies below Pebble Creek look surprisingly the same in bad light. I was happy to be following some spread out people when it started snowing at the end of our day on Saturday. There are some places you don't want to stumble over. I felt like I had almost admired the sunshine for a bit too long.

Mike, I think that you and I need to be field Reps for Micro Spikes! I remember that blister!!!
after a few Muir white room epic's over the years, lt was just so luxurious to be able to press a button and work out exactly where you are to within 3ft!!.. rather reassuring on an angry big hipped 14,000ft volcano that is throwing snow at you sideways at 45mph.
i might be inclined to learn how to use that tool.
Wow that is an awesome photo!

I do not own microspikes, but were I ever to buy them, these would be ideal conditions.

gps is such a wonderful tool.
Thanks for the report!
Thanks for the report!
The trail from Paradise was very icy as well. $30 spikes of and trail runners were much safer and faster than anything else.Everyone should have a pair.
More on Muir, including a picture of the "Old Patagonian Goat" that left me groveling on the snowfield probably an hour behind...Obviously the picture of my tracks must be my second lap ;)
Thanks for your hospitality. There will be reciprocation!

A perfect day to get my 48th Month. Lap one was a party ski from Muir on perfect cold snow with a warm blazing sun. Lap two was from Anvil summit down to the Paradise glacier staying on the Paradise till just above Little Africa. Snow on the Paradise was just a good, but incoming clouds and a Few sizable open people eaters kept us on our toes over there. The party continued on in the parking lot till the wee hours (for Paradise in November). Here is a shot of the Wildman in his natural environme...
Beautiful day. Most dangerous part? The death march up the icy asphalt in the morning.
