Andrew, I was at White Pass Tuesday and I am curious as to where the 2 to 3 feet of untracked powder you were skiing came from?

Hah! Like I would tell you and the next time find another 200 people looking for it. Nice set of numbers you collected; what do they mean? Hint: Look at the winds (and relatively low temps above 5800 ft). What do winds do? Scour snow. What does that produce? Spindrift. Where does spindrift collect? Where is snow unaffected by sun (direct sun light or or invisible solar radiation)? We found everything from somewhat glazed on the dowhill side moguls, nicely groomed (too bad! could have been powder) slopes; wind-packed powder; chopped up heavy powder; nice 1-2 feet of powder off the ridge in the picture that became really chopped by 11 a.m.; and some nice, deep, light, untracked powder, some of the best I've skied (top 20%)

where'd the technology of those narrow ass snowboards come from?.?.?
Hand-made by Moment skis in Sparks, Nevada for Sierra-type (kind of like Cascade) snow (bindings are Marker Squires):
Shape
Traditional camber profile give you camber underfoot maintains edge pressure when flexed into an arc and provides strength and rebound
Construction
UHMW (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) sidewalls are extremely light, durable and resistant to separation
4001 DuraSurf sintered base can take a beating while staying fast. They are harder and have better wax absorption than extruded bases. Moment uses sublimated graphics to eliminate the cracking and peeling common on die-cut bases
VDS dampening system
Triaxial fiberglass, woven in a 0°/45°/-45° fashion, provides maximum strength and resistance against twisting
Flex
Moment uses Aspen/Ash wood core on skis that really take a beating. Ash provides amazing binding retention, strength and dampening. Aspen adds durability and lighter weight to the core.

...We west coast folks tend to be a brooding, opinionated group...
For sure! We are all entitled to our own facts and free to express our opinions without regard to pertinent knowledge or experience.

While it can be accurately said that snowboarding brought about significant change to ski technology by introducing shape, IE deeper sidecuts, etc. it wouldn't be accurate to take credit for construction of the ski as a whole.
If you really want to get into that argument, I'll take points away for cap construction, something that I believe was introduce into ski construction, that was initially created to drop the over all weight on snowboard lay up. I remember seeing this on early Lib Techs prior to the ski industry adopting it in manufacturing. Also, anyone who has skied on Dynafit skis and had the inserts pull out on them while skiing might argue for points taken away for that contribution as well (some ideas just don't translate well some times).
Regardless, for the most part development from both sides of the spectrum has done much to float the whole sliding on snow boat higher. Rocker for instance, though in this case prior art goes back nearly a century on snow in fact, and there are early surf inspired snow boards that had it - think Winterstick , they had a sweet tip rocker profile.
As far as Kim's blog is concerned...
She has several valid points, and as someone who is a part of a family that represents a lot of industry, "area" horse power in this country, is on snow just about every day and in a position to observe first hand whats going on out there (for a while now), her point of view carries some weight.
For all of the "expert" and "experienced" riders that are crying fowl, your passion is admirable, however she obviously isn't writing about you. Anyone who rides/skis on a regular basis, enough to be considered "local" knows that there are plenty of people who have taken the time to master the skill set and have worked it out. What percentage of boarders do you think you represent on any given mountain (not including those sleeper days when you are one of a handful of "locals" on the hill)? You are still a minority within your user group, the vast majority of which are people who do struggle from time to time in certain situations. What she may have missed, is that some of what she is seeing are those who have had a taste of what is possible and are still working it out.
So, while you might not agree with her (which is fine) that doesn't mean that her observations are any less valid. If you are feeling the urge to get defensive about it, and tell her she's wrong, or express some negative reaction, maybe read it again, and consider for a moment, THAT SHE ISN'T WRITING ABOUT YOU.
FWIW:
I embrace any form of sliding on snow.
I ski, ride, and drop a knee now and then, and have worked it out so I am having fun 98% of the time (that last 2% accounts for things I can't control like weather and conditions).

I guess it may have also been taken out of context since it was resort and not BC oriented., maybe read it again, and consider for a moment, THAT SHE ISN'T WRITING ABOUT YOU
Sorry, I'm a snowboarder, its always about me.
