Just curious - up 'till August for the chutes or the normal route?
Sorry, yes, good question - the Suksdorf Ridge/South climb is usually skiable until Aug, the SW chutes not so much (the upper part, sure, but then you are facing a nasty traverse).
Don't get me wrong, the last time I skied it in August, the face below Piker's Peak was suncups...
Can someone tell me definitively whether or not I can ski with my dog (legally :) at Chinook? (I'm under the impression you can only take your dog, leashed, on the PCT...
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

.....and thanks for the report and pics - nice to be able to camp on the shoulder - looks like a fun couple days.

Today on Monday June 12th, we chose the SW ridge of Naches Peak to the false summit due to the Braille like navigational challenges.
As Jim mentioned the mush factor was not too bad without solar warming.
There is continuous snow from Tipsoo lakes to the false summit, but the snow on the SW ridge will not last for long....

Congrats!! Adams is one of my favorite tours and usually holds up to early August.
One suggestion, if you do it again, just camp near the Crescent Glacier (once you gain the sometimes-corniced ridge to the west it's a cakewalk) and you can do your loop without carrying your gear to the top! You may have to re-ascend to your camp slightly depending on how early you start your traverse, but I'm sure after your trip you believe it is worth it!! The snow from the lunch counter...

I heard they're both 7' tall and shoot fireballs out of their arses.
Congrats on an epic journey!!! Ridiculously strong work!
Congrats to Forest and Trevor! I'm looking forward to a full writeup!
Such an epic journey. Congratulations to Forest and Trevor. Looking forward to their account.
Congratulations guys! Can't wait to hear the full TR!
My buddies do but they don't post. It wasn't a good day for views and then we climbed up into a cloud. I can forward you a slideshow from last year's tour. Carl Simpson(Freebird) posted a Teanaway video with some Esmeralda footage last year in late May.
Whoa, a rare MW88888888 TR with photos. Thoughtful and compelling as always. Thank you!

Any chance you spotted a solitary skin lying around on the glacier or the snowfield between the glacier and the trail? I lost one a couple weeks ago.
Sorry, I can't say that I did. We were moving pretty quick.
Nice! Tried the White Salmon on Sunday, but ran turned around rather than skin across a 45 degree slope with cliffs/cracks below and unsupportive mush on top. Guess we should have tried the Sulphide!

It was actually a tad softer in the NBC than I would have preferred, that route gets hits by the sun early!! The North Face was quite firm though and the Glacier was softer than we expected (around 12pm I believe) considering the lack of sun.

The snow was pretty ok today on south through west aspects. The air was rather moist though! Never quite rain but the persistent fog did verge on drizzle toward the end of our tour... So much for our hopes that the partly sunny afternoon forecast would come true.
Silas, age is a number and you should not be grouchy until you reach my age. Hope I will meet you again next year. M
I've been texting with one of the dudes... mostly to the tune of, "Whatchagonna do aboot that snomachine still in the ice crack, eh, bud?"
He avoided some of my pointier questions about the likelihood of the fat fine, but wanted an opinion on the mechanics of the extraction. He said that the helo guys don't like the nature of the pick because the upslope side of the crevasse overhangs and obscures the load, also causing uncertain line tension.

And from what I hear it is a very big fine to leave a snowmobile up on the mountain

So what's the story with the snow machine still being there? Are people allowed to leave their trash on the mountain now? 'Cause I have an old fridge I need rid of and the dump will charge me.
I was up there the day they rode it in. Two skiers that borrowed a snowmobile and rode into a wide open crevasse, they are planning to go extract t this weekend....
Gave it a go on the W slopes. Connected the patches with minimal dry skiing/straightlining between rocks. Fun time, but I'd also call it done.
Good wildflower and post-ski grilling conditions, however.

Nice work! I was in the area on Friday and the snow was firm. I bet it was perfect for the NBC. I skied on Aasgard too early and got rattled. I had a turn-around time of 11am though, as I needed to pick up kids from school at 2:45 in Wenatchee :)
Great to see Dan's adventures again - love the lines and the classic Dan "camera" work.
You tell me!
Looks like some members of TAY know the snowboarders who piloted the snowmobile into the crevasse. Maybe they have an update?
From what it sounds like, you can dispose of smaller items without worry.

^I thought those hot pants looked good, Silas. Sorry about the shitty skin track...side hilling the PCT did not work out as well as planned.

June 11: Drive 99% of the way to Windy Pass. "ski" 85-90% of the way from car to N ridge step-over. Main N basin still acceptable, W slopes toast; we dropped the alternative drainage on the E side of the N basin and it barely went through. Overall a great half day but I'd call it done.
"Silas, I sense you may be holding some inner anger about the oncoming summer."
...ask Silas how he "feels" about his new yellow La Sportiva euro fit pants - this may have contributed to a constricted view of the day.

Nice trip, and nice photos. Looks like a wealth of great skiing out there!

How deep was the snowpak at the pass?
Was there adequate cover for ski travel at will?

Thanks for the nice report DOD! Jove is a gem indeed, and glad to hear skiing is still good out there.
Love the prose, colors the imagination better then a few photos. Almost makes me want to uproot and move to the east side.
Brief conditions update from Sunday June 11:
Some patches of snow before the big area of avalanche debris but not worth putting skis on until a few hundred meters after getting through the debris field. Once the skis are on, it's continuous snow with the exception of a few short patches until Steamboat Prow.
The Interglacier remains well filled in with the only issues being a system of cracks opening up climber's right/skier's left as you get up higher...

I went for a walk here in Vancouver, BC with Ron yesterday morning and he is doing well. I told him about this thread and hopefully he will add his voice so we can all learn from this. From what I heard a marker Kingpin pre-release might have had a huge part in the story. But hopefully Ron will tell the story from his point of view. Cheers. Be safe, stay safe. THANKS to everyone involved in the rescue, it is good to have my friend Ron back.
Hey John! I don't know if I'm going to get back into it, but we should climb sometime soon, Castle Rock? I'll send you an email.
Mosetick, Yeah it was a bummer to loose that camera, also felt foolish having dropped/lost anything, but as far as loseing something in the mountains goes, definitely not the worst thing that could have gotten away. I felt better when I made it back to my car just in time to catch the moon rise in the fading light.

Thanks for the story Lowell! Such a special place.
Thanks for the report and pictures Lowell, I'm glad you were able to go!! I was actually thinking of repeating it this year but didn't find the time, maybe next year :).

We were the party of 4 skiers that left after you. It was a fun day and we were happy that the weather held off.
We turned around at 8600' and found the snow more slush than corn but lots of fun.
It was great having the whole place to ourselves.
The tree debris area is definitely a mess. "Smells like Christmas"...

Looks awesome! Washington has so much beauty it boggles the mind.

Noted a very substantial older debris track running out the remainder of the glacier below and out of sight in the woods below, likely from the rains the first week of May.
Yep, that's exactly when it happened!
Also, of note, is that the drop from the summit of Sherman onto the Talum is nicely filled in right now. Sometimes it can be tricky (for me at...

I had taken some photos along the way but my camera apparently flew out of my unzipped pocket high on the NWC.
Thanks for the report. Serious bummer to learn about your camera taking off! :(
