Got damn! That's a helluva line. Nice one fellas.
Aha! It has been done. The claim of a first descent can no longer motivate people to ski in there.
Congratulations on picking off one of the last unskied big lines, but more, we're very glad you came home. There's a reason it's been so-long unskied.

Hopefully they ruin it for everybody.
You can always go to the other sides of the mountain, or to one of the other snomo-free volcanoes in the state. I think snowmobiling offers a very unique opportunity on Mt. Baker. The overall area in the cascade range available to snowmobilers is very small compared to that available to back-country skiing and sno...
Woah. Heavy line, gentlemen! Holy shit! Please put up more pics if you took them.
So that's what you guys were up to. Cool!
Well done! If you've got more pics, we all want to see 8)
Nice work!

Here we were passed by a group of three rando race guys doing a speed climb of Liberty Ridge and ski descent of the Emmons. They were really moving on their light gear and quickly overtook the Jackson group of three ahead of us as well. We also owe them beers for breaking trail up the upper half of Liberty Ridge.

I like that photo a lot
I also like WyEast face, it's a perfect date if skiing were a girl, or a boy, or a penguin if one was a gender indiscriminate penguinm lover run. Rock on!

Nice loop! Hawkins is an under appreciated gem. 4k' of relief on the Camp Creek side and most of it is great tree skiing. It's our go-to spot for high avy conditions during big storms in the winter. Super easy snomo access too.
Great edit! Really captures how fun (and not scary) that line is in good conditions. And, the shots from Longs Pass are a great touch.
The T-Bill is back! Last I heard, you were flying around in choppers, counting goats....
Nice trip there, Bud.

Did you happen to notice how far up FS-4330 you could drive? Looking to hit Daniel as soon as I can get there.
What approximate time of day did you see the big slides? Just trying to get a sense for consolidation. Over the weekend, the big stuff started moving ~10:30am+.
Went up on Monday the 22nd. As noted, it would have been a breeze up to the snow except for the missing log on last river crossing. It was a pretty narly bushwack upstream trying to find place to cross. Detour added about hour each way.
Booted up the couloir to climbers right to the pass. That one is starting to melt out a bit at top, so the one to climber’s left might be a better option, especially for the ski down.
Fun ski down in the spring mush...

Thanks for the info. Lucky sledders! Looks like the crevasse that one normally would expect to be on that part of the squak
Hopefully they ruin it for everybody.
(To specify, since e-sarcasm doesn't translate well, personally I'd prefer snowmos be prohibited on Baker, at least above ~6k'.)
Then again, good on the crew rallying up there to try and rescue the sled.

Nice TR! I believe we met at Longs Pass in the morning, and then again off and on through the ascent. I was in the group of three camped at Longs Pass Saturday night.
Nice video! I was in the group of 3 that met you up at the false summit, and again back at the cars (thanks again for the watermelon, it hit the spot on a hot afternoon).
they were two skiers who borrowed a snowmobile to ride up to near the crater and then skin from there. They rode into a wide open crevasse at 8900ft, hit the other side and fell down in. Definitely not sledders by any means. Until their incident they were the only snowmobiles that went high onto the glacier. My friend and I were up below crag view when we saw the helicopter come and go. We were surprised to see snowmobile tracks going up that direction as we noted the freshly opened up crevasse...
Anyone been over Sharkfin recently? Wondering what it's going to be like this weekend.
Just pin it to the summit! Throttle-thumb, engage!
See https://www.facebook.com/NorthwestGlacierCruisers/
I saw a different facebook post on this....they gunned it right into the already wide open crevasse because they couldn't see it and it hadn't been there earlier in the season. Hit the far wall, plummeted 80' and walked away from it.....
Sweet vid! Way to shred that sucker.
According to the sledder site, the guys who fell in were skiers/boarders riding double up to get in some laps, which seems to be confirmed by the drone footage linked in the Bellingham Herald article. Sledders also said the snomo was successfully extracted. Looks like it was a bridge collapse, but how they missed that sagging bridge is beyond me. Can't imagine they thought it would "go".
avajane - Thanks!
Shred - gotcha, thought I'd solved the mystery when I saw your vid.

goleary, We did this as a day trip, so wasn't ours. There were two gentleman that camped at Longs Pass that night, that were headed to Fortune. I believe that was their stuff stashed.
Good luck. Hope you find the owners.

Nice video. It looks like one of your party may have left their french press at longs pass (I see it in the first second of the vid next to the red pack). I brought it down with me if the owner wants it back...PM me.
Surprised that doesn't happen more often. I guess they called it in to SAR? That's a big object to litter up there. Glad everyone is okay though.

Cool route, nice write-up and pics.
FWIW that looks like a Spruce Grouse : )

Think I ran into your party on my way up to longs last night. For anyone who's interested here's a shot of Stuart with Ulrichs (condition) clearly visible. This was taken last night (5/21) around 8pm. Surely more melting is taking place by the second... PM me if you want a hi res version.
Hey Pete! I was the guy who was milking you for beta in the parking lot as you guys were gearing up to head home yesterday. We camped at Longs pass last night and skied the Cascadian today. We headed off the false summit around 11 am and it was nice and soft from top to bottom where many shenanigans were had getting back to

Dan and Mike, thanks so much for indulging me, even with less than ideal conditions, and Mikes broken ski it was a grand trip! Given some of the route finding, it was great to have the two of you to share the load.

how narrow was it exiting the dogleg above the waterfall? - given the view from Longs Pass i would've have expected it to go. nicely done :)
Pete, the exit out of the dogleg was about 25' wide or so, with the runnel splitting the middle.
inspiring mission fellas! best of luck for a pleasant finish.
also, cool photo Charlie--interesting optical illusion re: Formidable's proximity to Cache Col; if only they were that close...

Wow, this is the first that I've heard of Forest and Trevor's current mission. Incredible. Nice job helping out with the resupply Lowell, and thanks for sharing here. I know those two will be needing all the food and calories they can get their hands on!
I hope they continue to have a safe and fun adventure! I can't wait to hear wait to hear more news and details about their trip in the coming weeks.

We were pretty sure that these were their faint down-tracks coming through Cache Col. It's not clear how the skiers negotiated the cornice.
Very best wishes for a safe and successful journey. Looking forward to the tale.

Everyone needs to know this was seriously a special tour in a place few visit. I will definitely be going back. Jamie's brilliance in finding adventure strikes again!
wasn't us...we were just a party of two. i think there were five parties of skiers on the route yesterday - one earlybird group that was on the way down around 10am, then two other groups near us on the same schedule, then another group of three about an hour behind the rest of us.
I think our party saw you? Were you the group of three hanging out on the upper boulder field around noon?
Major thanks for the head up...that image is SO tempting. One of these days I'm going to do it, with a buddy or two. Maybe even a belay in case things slip.
