Gregg neglected to mention that the steep, bad visibility entry from the summit of Mt. Anne was also wind-scoured to bulletproof raincrust.  Coincidentally, I just happened to have stopped a hundred feet below to adjust my bindings; I don't recollect what Jim's excuse was.

This is the second time I've returned from that tour after dark in December.  Last time, however, there was no boot to knee-deep  powder involved, and no climbing back up for second helpings.
Great skiing and pictures from Jerry, Ron and Steffan.  I didn't fall on any of my runs.  I did have to abruptly interrupt serveral of my runs to dig in the snow looking for the skins bag that Jeanette lost.  I didn't find it.  I'm open to tips for weighting the rear ski and keeping my weight down hill.
Ha!  I think I've also been had by the drop-off that claimed you...
Where was this crust that you speek of? I noticed nothing ;D ;) That realy was a good time. Thanks for the info Robie. And you know Jerry is quite the freestyler, while falling down was the theme of the day. Jerrys tricks had the most style and precision. I don't think any of us besides MAD-DOG made a sinle run without falling.thank goodness for soft snow.
Charles, the links work for my Mac (10.2.8, Safari).  If it'd help, I'll fire up my backup (9.x, IE) and give it a try.  I'm mainly just hanging around trying not to accomplish anything worthy, so let me know.
MW88888888, I am on a Mac, but since I'm using IE and the pages were made with Microsoft FrontPage (according to the page source), you'd think that shouldn't be a problem. When I got to the maps by looking up the file names from the pages sources and typing them in manually, I found that the links there did work for me. I can imagine that the ski area is not too thrilled about the site, but at least the entrance page to the maps section starts out with a BIG disclaimer and warning (the file for...
Isn't alpental.com the subject of some controversy?  I think the Alpe. patrol is not happy with it since its descriptions and directions makes the backcountry seem too friendly to novices and fools.  Being one of the later I'm headed up there right now ...
That's the difference between being a lightweight and a heavyweight--one finds wonderful powder everywhere, the other finds whatever breakable crust that exists! ;D ;D
Charles - weird.  The history links are just text when I view them (the links work fine), but the real thrill are the maps - these take a few secs to open up through the "virtual tour" link, but even on my home dial up they aren't too slow.  Working with the usual Microsoft suite, maybe it's your software to view this site that's messing things up?
Sounds like an exemplary ski day, Lady!
Thanks for the great report!  :)
I had never heard about alpental.com before. When I go to the site, the pages behave really strangely. There appear to be links on the front page (History of Snoqualmie Pass, Virtual Mountain Tour, etc), but they are not really links for me - there's nothing to click. I looked at the page source to see what files the links point to, and I can view those pages by typing in their addresses, but then the links on those pages aren't really links either. Does this happen for anyone else? The site loo...
Nice, Ron! A good "mood" shot that really conveys the feeling of bc skiing, even if there wasn't much "fluff".

Thank you, Mad_Dog and snoslut, your info has been very helpful. I haven't quite figured out what to start copying yet (so far the only document I have to copy is the original ticket), but I'm sure I will do so along the way. I talked to my auto insurance agent today, and got some reassuring news. Since I'm a "preferred" client, having been with them...
yeah, it was a great day up there...Alpy is always a good time before the lifts start up and the crowds arrive (although the ski patrol had the edelweiss chair running sunday afternoon and were taking the easy way up).
It was a kick running into so many folks I had read trip reports from but never met in person.
International was about as good as it gets...I shoulda spent the day studying, but I'm sure glad I got out.
Thanks for the kind words and recognition, Silas.  :)
congrats Ron, you made us locals proud with your photo on telemark tips today! 8)
Yeh, thanks Robie for the info and photo compliment. Good shots Ron,Stefan. thanks for putting them up Ron.
Robie's "beta" from his Saturday tour gave us better insights as to where to go for the goods on Sunday.  Thanks Robie.
While we didn't get great photo light until late in the day, there's a bunch of additional photos from this tour at:

Nice shots JW as always. Wish I coulda been there, looks like much better conditions than Sat.
That was certainly some fantastic tree-skiin'...I think the 10-inches of new snowfall reported by the Snoq. Pas snowline was a total since their power outage on Friday (they didn't bother to mention whether that snow fell before or after the power was restored). Anyway, I was nonetheless stoked to find 13" of fresh powder at the top of "Casshole Ridge" [thanks Skip, for attaching my nickname to a geographic feature  :D]

alpental.com is the coolest thing I've seen since finding the photos of Jackson Hole BC.  Great tip!
There looked to be some worthwhile climbs nearby....

I'm hoping it'll be a good year for ice, I'm getting stoked already!
Jason, check out alpental.com for some great photos of the BC.
Good stuff for sure. I've never been to alpental and now that I've been there, I will be back. We ended up yo yoing the otherside for 4 runs (just the best stuff up high) of some of the best pow I've skied in a long time! Now, I just have to educate myself on the local BC once the ski resort opens. There looked to be some worthwhile climbs nearby...

O.K.!, thanks, that's what I kind of thought.  ;) abc
I did, last year, just what Snoslut has suggested since I was issued a ticket in a small town too just 1 week before Christmas.  Hired an attorney, checked box #3 went to court got the defered prosecution paid $100.00 for court fees (since the town was in the red) and did not have the infraction on the driving record, which was a good thing since we had just switched car insurance two days prior to the ticket.  Check your PM, I put some aditional information there for you.  And ye...
Where's Bundy's Blunder?   ??? did you go above golden gate and ski down?  did you ski the slope that leads to the foot bridge across paradise river at the base of Mazama ridge? abc
You never want to admit guilt.  Wait for your day in court to decide that.  Check box # 3 - deny guilt and request a court date.  Make sure to make copies of everything.  Also have you decided on an attorney or not.  There are benefits for having a lawyer around especially in this case.  Eatonville is a real small town.  Couldn't hurt to call.
Sweet - that side of Snoqualmie is always fun, adventurous skiing.   :)

re the 10 inches: I think the summit website "conveniently" left their snow-total from the previous day up.
Nice shots boys!  Looks fun, love the name! ---  Jerry
The north end of the east aspect of Heather Ridge had some instability on Saturday.  The slope collapsed underneath us at one point, about 100 feet below the ridgetop.  Nothing slid, but the surface snow in that area was a little slabby.

The rest of the bowls seemed fine though, it was just that one area.
Participated in avalanche safety class on lower Heather Ridge area.  Instructor's evaluation of pits, Rutchblok (sic) etc. agree with the above.  Nice skiing!
thanks for the description of your experience with the outtabounds.  i happen to find a review this morning on backcountrymagazine.com regarding "light touring" (or something like that) skis, i.e. no wax shaped skis in various cambers and boots to match.  if anyone's interested, a good review.  btw, the outtabounds were their favorites.  markharf, you said they were discounted by "sb", what does that stand for? ???

adam t.
Ron, I think you are right!

snoslut, thanks for all of the info - I will look into this deferred finding. What I'm not sure about is at what point this deferred finding choice comes into play. I've got this ticket in my wallet and 15 days (from last Sunday) to decide which of the three boxes to check:
1 - admit guilt and pay in full now
2 - admit guilt but request a mitigation hearing
3 - deny guilt and request a court date

So do I check #2 and then the deferred finding ch...
Charles, I think you better hire snoslut  ???
I have another suggestion and it requires no attorneys.  When you show up for your hearing claim deferred finding.  You will know since the judge will offer this to everyone before the docket starts.  Anyway this is to speed things up.  You'll be amazed how fast your outta there!  Everybody gets 1 every 7 years so if you have no priors, which it sounds like no, your okay.  Basically what a deferred finding means is that you admit that you were speeding or whatever a...
You mean you really weren't doing a blocker run for us  ???
Yes, cool photos, Ron and Stefan. The lighting is great with the cool shady and warm sunny slopes together. It looks like some of the turns must have been quiet? Not a quiet as our little corn field, however.  ;)

How many times have I driven through that speed trap and remembered to stay slow even when the surroundings say "speed up"? The one time I forget, there's the man. I think Silas is partly to blame, as he had engaged me in a stimulating discussion of the culi...
Thanks, Ron.  Nice photos.  Unfortunately, whenever I look I hear the scritching sound of metal edges skidding on steep crust.  It's kind've disconcerting.

Thanks, folks.  Good to know I've got "the weightiest of the bunch" and the one with the take-no-prisoners helmet on my side.  Conditions will surely have shifted in one direction or the other by this weekend, and with a little luck this will discourage the toters of shotguns.

Ajt, I don't have much of a setup specific to those skis.  My lightest (and only) boots are T-2's, so I wore them with thermoflexes, but I'm sure I'd be just as happy with Excursions...
Well, I'm glad to hear it was just as bad north as it was south. I went up the Suntop Lookout road off Hwy 410 the bright sunny Sunday morning before on waxless Karhu Pinnacle touring skis.  All ice, with dog and ski tracks too skinny for mine to follow, topped with generous helpings of aspen and fir needles. The road is so shaded it never melted out except at a couple of switchbacks.  I didn't even leave any tracks most of the way up and down.  Met 2 snowshoers and a family with...
cool trip report. 8)  just wondering what your setup is with the outtabounds, i.e. boots/bindings?  no-wax shaped skis seem like a good option for touring with turns.

ajt
It was obvious that I was already overdue to turn around, but of course, I kept going. This is the way of it, in skiing as in holiday feasts. Excess is all.

"Anything worth doing is worth over doing"   ;D

Thanks for the smiles.
A good read, Mark.
Good info, too.  Glad you got your new waxless rigs aired out.
I'm not sure how long it will be before the power and sewer is restored - I've been out of the loop. You can bet Booth Creek wants it fixed ASAP so don't count on Alp being this season's touring mecca.

I was referring to the trail out of lot 4 that heads to Source Lake. Any variation up Snakedance or Lower I could put you on a control route. A general rule of thumb is to expect control work for 6" or more at the lodge - but this can vary...
Hey there A-Trol!

I do remember you, you had just skinned up unto the ridge when I went over to Edelweiss.  Maybe I'll see you there sometime.  Me with the Blue Helmut...

Good info.  Yes, indeed, I will definitely climb under the lifts in the future - on Thanksgiving I figured no one would be on the mtn and I could see the control work had been done the day before.  That, and I wanted to inspect the line in case I wanted to descend via International - I'm still...
Right on Mattaeus!  Nice TR and cool photo.  I'm glad that there were good conditions.  In retrospect, I bet you're glad that I cancelled on Friday, it probably would have been miserable.
Hey MW88888. I think I saw you at Alp at the top of Ch 2 Thursday AM. I skinned up on my splitter ascending Ch 1 and then the ridge and was just getting to the top as you were talking with a patroler at the lift shack. I went inside to connect my board and i think you were gone by the time I came out.

I did a run down the ridge and the fan and then climbed back up and rode down International, Adrenalin and lower I making it home in time for turkey. It really was good.

I'm a Patrole...

Great report Matthaeus - one TR and you are already writing like a veteran! It was very interesting to hear and read reports from various locations and aspects, with lots of variability due to the previous rain below ~6500' and then sun warming (or lack thereof). We got a lot of good photos, some of which I will post on TAY homepage next Monday (12/8). In the meantime, a view of the object of our desires as we start up for a second run:
