Took me awhile to respond, but that was an incredible weekend. Jen and I were there on both days and skied over 9k of untracked powder in the trees! Great skiing with Cass and Justin on Saturday and then on Sunday we led our first Mountaineers trip...it was really a good time!  Here is a slide show of both days ....Yodelin Tours....enjoy ....Jerry   PS Allyson we miss you!
I tried that very same route more than 30 years ago with Pete Doorish. A long walk up through huge piles of debris. We gave up when the slide danger seemed to get too high, as the day warmed up.
Good stuff indeed, and great report Jessica! Here are my photos:

p.s. Mechanicgeek/ An air intake hose clamp had been knocked loose on the undercarriage presumably due to hitting a rough bump the week before... Nothing complicated or related to bio-diesel usage.
"Bucked again.  I will tame that horse."

Hell yes you will. Skykilo. One bad ass cascade hardman.

Way to get after it.  Whitehorse has been floating up my list lately too.  last 3 days on skis?  Don't you have to work some time!?
Ja, Androolus had wonderful touring under the light of moon. After night skiing at ski arces, I skinned up hyak and pitched my tent. And then I was off for some midnight touring under the moon and stars. Did some short runs on the backside ala charles (that is) I hit the road and skied back up sans skins...that's right no transition. I was on fischer sbounds...waxless metal edge slightly shaped skis...A little skinnier than old school alpine. Then I toured about in hidden valley. Got to bed...
Indeed!  Timmy T yanked my chain around 1:00 pm yesterday, he worked some magic to free up the afternoon and we started skinning around 2 pm.  Sun?  Haven't skinned up Mt. Snoq. in the daylight in a long time, and the sun was actually strong and making things warm up.  We stopped at 5200' and headed down in the already reported "super deep" snow.  Little heavier due to the sunshine, but still incredibly fun.  Looks like we were tracks 3 and 4 down the phantom and through the...
Sweet pics!

This week has been one to remember...

The drive up I-90 was DEEP!
Think I saw your track on the way down hedonaut, wondered how your outing went.  6k?  You almost made the summit? My run -

Almost too much snow - kept getting in my eyes (glasses caked so they came off after first over-the- head face shot), up nose and in mouth whenever I turned.  Sooo, tried to keep speed up and stay on top, but speed sucked 'cause then the raging snow falling out of the sky blinded me...kept racing my slough lines and trying to avoid trees...4-5&...
Serious congrats. To place on the podium with that group is amazing.
Nice work man, I wish I could have been there. Im currently battling illness myself. :(
Great powder through the trees.  Here are a few more pictures:

That first shot really takes me back to skiing among the birch glades and the NW Kingdom boys. I showed it to my wife w/o telling her where it is, and she immediately said "Vermont!" Thanks for sharing. After over a decade, the days of 2" of ice over dirt fade in my memory and scenes these are what remain.

Tell Wayne we would have appreciated some lowly snowshoers ahead of us this past Sunday, or even a snowmobile track here and there, w/in less than an hour's driv...
Nice work that was fun to watch! Put a smile on my face ;D
I just watched that again - that is crazy deep!
Nice!  Thanks for the east coast TR.  Praise the lord for noreasters, the Valentines Day storm just about saved our season and of course dumped lots of powder.  We had a ball yo-yoing it on a mountain close to where you probably made these turns.  Glad to see you got some too.
Here's a shot Skip caught of me in one of the open meadows, which was almost as nice as the treed skiing just above and below this point!

Yowza man - I am glad there is a happy ending. That sure looks like a nice sunny day but I can tell it was cold because you are wearing your good coat. Nice pictures Wayne.
It was a great trip indeed.
Here are a few more pictures.
Cochise (Jay) and I were on east peak, bullion basin, on Friday Feb 23 as well. Don't think we ever saw you, but we saw your awesome figure elevens. And thank you for the skin track. Much appreciated.

Here are photos of cochise (and media).

cascadesfreak, great pix of a great day! Nice to see so many TAY replies from the groups who were crossing paths out there.
oh, i'm soooo jealous of all you all...that looks so good!  here's to hoping you have a couple more months of winter, so i can get some the next time i'm out that way!  ;)
Ha!  I hit that exact same stump-bump later on the same morning.  I wondered who might have dared to sully my favorite micro-drop.

My dog was the third Husky to hit it that day -- safe to say he went bigger than the first two assailants ...  ;D
Nice photos all...

Mr. Cass, is that JW I see in a few of those shots skiing north of Snoqualmie Pass?  The world is truly mixed-up this year ;D
Has anyone seen my skis?

All I saw were the tips on the runs through the trees.
The e-mail I sent last week bounced back.  PM sent.
I dunno, that snow really wasn't all that great  ;)  In fact, it was so bad we couldn't resist lapping the runs for a total of about 5k vertical ft... 8)

Thanks to TAY! Had a GREAT day gulping powder with mtn_mama, jersan and lindalc. None of us had met before we got together through TAY and had a terrific time together. Due to NWAC forcast of high avalanche conditions we opted for Yodelin and stayed in the big trees. There were ALOT of people but no shortage of snow. Definately the best of the year for me! ;D
Ah ha....  I may have been one who got lost in translation as you switched your email provider.  Anyhow, I would be utterly delighted to participate in the adventure!  Especially the White pass/ Glacier traverse.  Let me know.
Yup, I concur.  Maaaahvelous powder yesterday!  I was actually glad to see so many others out there enjoying it too.  There was plenty to go around and we had fresh tracks on every run.
I was also up there today with a group of 7 and wow!  wow! wow!  What awesome pow!  Definitely a nice treat after all the recent nastiness.  Yep,yep, yep.  By the end of the day yodelin was closing resembling a lift served ski resort with all the tracks in the trees.
At 10 pm, Tex the dog is passed out on the couch, after a day of "swimming" in the powder at Yodelin.
I was up there too with a group of 4. Amazing the number of people. All seemed nice though....
As to the avy conditions, I expected worse, no real slabs (It was treed though). Good bond between the old January snow and all the glorious new fresh stuff we have gotten this week.
I dug a pit near the top in a bit of a clearing. Pit details can be found here.

Skied similar aspect on some more open slopes, with no signs of instability.  However, upon return to the south/east facing slopes on heather ridge towards the ski area, there was significant wind loading on the slopes. Wind buffed snow would support your weight completely in certain areas, and in others there were wind slabs of 3-5 inches.
Skip, great to hear from you. Welcome to TAY!

I've harvested the e-mail address from your profile and have added you to my pool of contacts.

BTW, if anybody tried sending me an e-mail during the past few days, sorry for my lack of response.  I'm in the middle of switching e-mail providers, and I'm not getting any messages right now .  :-[  >:(  ???  :'(
Lowell - that's a great project.  I'm about to retire and would love to join you on some of those sections.    Skip Edmonds
Sounds like good fresh!
My wife had an identical skin issue in the Wallowas, and not only was the offending dog in our own party, but one of the teenage boys on the trip later said, "Oh yeah---I saw that but didn't tell anyone."  Freezing and scraping worked, by the way.
I'd be pleased to join you for any of the remaining tours.
Great stuff Jess -- looks like a beautiful spot for a trip.

What was wrong with the car? /mechanicgeek
Nope - now in Vermont.  Perhaps more on that later.

I'd like to hear what you've been up to in CO, though.
I understand - I forgot it can be a touchy subject.

I haven't been in there in wintertime, so must admit that I've only heard from others that there are a lot of machines going out the roads back that way - perhaps it's not so swarmed after all (and to be clear, XC skiers and slowshoers "swarm" places like the Gold Creek and Kendall Ridge trails on nice weekends - it's not just a term I use for sleds, though in groups they do sound a bit like mosquitoes ...
JibberD:  we have a digital camera but lost the computer interface when we moved.  I like to write anyway, so thanks for the encouragement.  You are missing a fat season!

Kenji:  bad scene on the binding, hope it made it through the day.  Makes me glad I bought the beefier 01s.  I get a funny loose-wire type rattle under my rear, flexed foot when I rail on hard pack, but I don't think anything is going.
Indeed it was fun blind pow-ing, hope Amy had a good day too.  I'm...
Ack!  I posted without seeing your report of the same trip....what ignominy.
Nice work Swooz, glad you found a partner at the last minute.  Sounds like it was a great trip!
Mack, it was nice to share a few runs with you on Mon.  Yeah, the condition had changed completely for better!

BTW, the funny noise from my skis turned out to be broken binding.  My G3 ascent's upper base plates just sheared at screw holes.  No wonder it was a bit hard to ski hardpack.
