Perhaps a RonJer video will appear soon?

Sorry, Silas, The Jerman broke his viddycam.  The good news is he's toying with the idea of a new High Def model.

You guys certainly did have your way with those slopes up there.  Nice work.
We just barely found any untracked freshies to play in  ;)
Nice report.

Snoqualmie had a fun mix today. UP close to 5K and above, some nice fluffy powder pockets could be found. From 4-5K-ish, powder on top of nice turning carvable corn/slush, and below that, fun but getting more slushy and heavy. Anything in deep forest was pretty rough (and hard  up high - yum!). Open areas were the name of the game and surprised us at how fun the skiing was - we had to lap the stuff in the powder/corn zone.
Scatter Creek required a little detour because the snowpack had collapsed around the creek there. As I recall, I found a skiable detour while Paul took his skis off briefly. It was not a signficant obstacle for us. I might be confusing it in my mind with another stream where we both took our skis off and walked a few feet.
Awsome trip! -- how was the Scatter Creek crossing ?
I took photos of Surprise Mtn and Thunder Mtn, but not Spark Plug Mtn. The road is very long, and the upper reaches won't melt out for months yet. The lower reaches will melt out sooner, but it should still be continuous for a while yet. The Cle Elum River road melts out in patches. Already there are places where stream crossings have cut through the snowpack, but they are few. The Fish Lake snotel site is handy for monitoring the snow depth near the end of the road:

Great timing and pics Lowell.  Any chance you got one of Spark Plug Mtn from where you camped?  Also, how much snow was on the Cle Elum River Rd; do you think it's down to dirt(mud) after all this rain today??  Thanks,  Boot
Hey Dicey, sorry it was no longer good, and I'm not trying to rub it in, but I would be interested in a more complete description of the snow conditions you found. Mainly selfish reasons - I get better at predicting conditions when I know how they've changed after I've been out and seen the snow first hand.
Lucky you!
Today it sucked - no big suprise  :'(
That was a very nice day. Good snow+good snowboarders+fast motor drive digicam=too many amazing photos of huge powder plumes! (Not to ignore skier David, but skis just don't produce plumes the way a snowboard does).
Looks Pretty Sweet!!!!
Nice pictures!
Wow! Not bad for the first day of spring. I heard a report of similar conditions up around Snoqualmie Pass.

Roads?  We don't need no stinking roads.

nice pictures doods!  glad the magic mts. turned out to be everthing you wanted them to be and more.  ;)  plus, you guys look H-O-T-T dodging those bushes/shrubs/rocks!!   8)

thanks, it was not that cold up there, i did not have my snow science kit with me,, but it seemed right around freezing, although the water on the sides of my bottle frooze pretty easialy when swished around. Last year I was up there at the end of April, and it was around 0dg f. Hows Rainier looking for skiing, did they ever fix that road?
Oh he's a sick puppy allright 8)
Hey Dan, nice work.  I wouldn't have thought to bring a 10 meter rope but it sounds like it simplified the ascent.
How cold is it up top in March?
Great pictures, Jer.

Now I think I know why it is not uncommon to see Scottie touring with only one gloved hand.

You know he may be "trolling" in the wrong venue, eh?  ::)
Good times, for sure, while they lasted... bummer about the binding.

Was also good to learn a few more things about snow, see some of the stuff that my two Avy One classes had talked about but never done in their field trips.

Coupla pics:
Just the other day I was thinking, "Where's Dan? Did he get a job?" I think not!!! That's some first class skiing. Nice work!
Finally got around to resizing/posting some trip photos which are posted here.

Forgot to bring the camera along for most of the Wasatch Range skiing (all in-bounds though as avy conditions were rather sketchy with generally wet, heavy snow overlying nasty persistent weak layers on all aspects, but found excellent corn conditions at the lift areas).

I've been experimenting with Powerpoint to Flash slideshows, Here is my take on a great day!    BTW Scottie are you sure he chewed up your glove maybe it's still in your pants! ::)  (photo #2)......Dog...
I didn't truly wind up on Low by planned choice. I'd set out to do Kaleetan from Denny Creek, but got spooked by the premise of crossing the avy slopes above the first big falls on the creek. The slide paths on the W side of the creek had seen lots of activity with the heavy rain, but the slopes above the waterfalls hadn't yet slid (and would feed me to the waterfall if they did). So, for better or worse, I went straight up the avy debris into the forest/cliff...
What a difference a few weeks makes! It is like summer in the Wasatch right now and the back country is really unstable with wet releases all over the place.  My trip was truly poorly timed for skiing, but the sunshine and mild weather is beautiful.
I had one excellent photo of the pow of the north bowl, [which I'll try and display, solely for snow reference you understand, Charles], which happens to show the dire snow on the Kaleetan summit chute.

Interesting choice on Low.  My eyes wandered the lines off the mountain but obviuosly missed the climber.  Who would be insane enough to slog into that peak?  Uh, oh.

Also note about the photos in the post, as I think there is some confusion. ...
I was nonpleasantly surprised by the non-corniness of the snowpack up there at Diamond Head. No firm base, and even so in the earlier part of the day the surface crust on the north facing stuff was frozen hard. Maybe too little snow on the rapidly warming ground? Severe regression from the better corn reported last week up at Iron Creek not far away. By contrast, the previous day (Sat), on brief forays off the Snoqualmie nordic trails while I was doing the Catherine loop with my dad, the snow up...

Ok, Lucille (aka ovrthhills' alter ego) here.  I can type just fine because I just had a poodicure at the groomer.  I was going for the mountain goat look but was definitely overdressed for the conditions.  Its all about being seen and smelling good. wuff wuff oui oui 8) Time to shed some winter layers. Thanks everyone for behaving so well and taking so many pictures of moi.

Au Revoir
Lucille (aka Powder Poodle)
Oh my, we were up there first week of April last year and there was tons more snow.  My trip report is in the archives.  Here is a photo 4/4/2006.  The bridges are always sketch I hear!
Awesome photos! I've spent a lot of time up in that area climbing in the summers, it's cool to see how it looks the rest of the year.
Once again another beautiful day 'east of the crest'.
Thanks, MW88888888. We'll have to go back up there together sometime. I never though about the parking as we always had a pass, but I guess you are right about the access. BTW, if you look carefully at my 3rd picture, you can see 3 boarders launching the cornices on Granite! Nice!
Dear Zap,
I want your lifestye, please forward your secret immediately. Nice report. You guys get around! ;D
Or slow down; I remember you railing in the crud last Dec. in Bullion.
G3 gave me great service, too, w/a jammed up cartridge.
Ah, we doggies: such ice-breakers.  This is elder stateswoman Taska here.
Telemack is permanently logged on so it's easy to reply, even w/o thumbs.
Had 3 great runs and lots of fattening snacks from those sucka TAY-ers.
But BOY AM I SORE TODAY! I'm getting a bit old for this and think Mack ought to take me out for more training walks.  And to think I used to carry some of his rock shoes and draws in my doggie pack.... 8)
It was a first Gen Targa Ascent. They have since beefed them up, my replacements are already in the mail. It was a tear in the toe plate, directly underfoot. I got these bindings as soon as they came out last spring, sometimes being an early adopter is not such a good thing.....
Working with G3 has been great though, as I had the other foot blow apart in the same way in Feb in the Tetons and they got right on em and kept me skiing.
Guess I need to learn to butter my turns a bit better...
Looks like Jerry is doing his best Bob McKenzie "Strange Brew" impression in the first photo with the pooch.  I think I sense a "like, take off hoser!" in the air.

Glad you had fun! I think I saw you on/near the summit while embroiled in the midst of my own misadventure on the SE flank of Low Mountain. Did you happen to take any photos from the summit looking toward Kaleetan that might've included Low? (If you happened to catch me, I'm probably only a little red or blue spot on the skyline of the SE ridge).
Darryl,
Chugach here again. Yea, I liked that guy RONJ aswell. He has a lot of hair and found my sweet spot when he was scratching me behind my ears ;D
You where the other telemarker right! I'll get you next time ;D

That poodle Lucy sure smelt good.

Chugach, your typing and spelling skills are almost as good as your ascent/descent skills.

It looked like you thought Ron smelt better than Lucy.  Maybe not!

Great tour!
Great trip! Glad I was able to join for the road-trip this year.  The idaho potato snow actually made for some pretty fun skiing, and a good place to break-in the new Atomics!

Cass had reservations about Cache, something along the lines of, “… it’s kinda big and I don’t want to ski a whole lot of vertical today.”
That's funny, I recall being the only one up for a second ski l...
That Secret stash near the NE corner of MRNP sure has the goods. Sunny there again whilst rain was pouring forth at snoqualmie pass. Nice pics. It must be nice to have your own poodle dog to "poodle dog" the slopes.  :)
Thanks for the ice worm link, we saw a bunch of them yesterday morning. I also often see a small spider on the snow; small round body with longer front legs. Does anyone know what these are? I have wondered what they are eating out there in the middle of snowfields. Ice worms?

Good to see that you boys are still after it.
10 hour drive, plus Kam's fight time for 840 vf. JOM???
Great report.
Chugach here using Scottie's sign-in. It's hard typing with paws but here's my take on the day.
It was good. I had a pee at the trailhead against a new volkswagon passat and then I jumped into Sidnie's car and dirtyed her seat with my muddy paws.  ;DThat poodle Lucy sure smelt good. ;D
I managed to take out one skier, Telemack with a body charge and I always choose the telematkers as they are so much easier to knock over!! haha woof woof. ;) ;)
I smelled L...
At least we found Sawtooth National Forest this time - that slippery bugger wasn't getting past me twice.  Yessir, it was another fine, fine roadtrip.  Let me also note that it's a special kind of friend who flies across the country just in time for a 10-hour drive to...southern Idaho.  Bravo to you, Sir, and well done.
The lower picture looks like someone owns a small mountain goat!
Glad you had a great time. Sore hip flexor kept me from going on another tour.
Good report.
Joe
Is that the Granite offa I-90?  Gotta get at that before meltdown.
What up w/ the binding mishap?  What make and where was the break?
