Nice job Rusty -- sounds like a great 3 day stint.

This new maddog... much grumpier than the Mad_Dog I'm used to seeing around here.  Jim Hill's not exactly a secret.

Now, there's this great little stump near Kendall that you have to check out....
Wow!  Those are some great shots!  Looks like some great snow across the water...
the only "magic" I've ever heard of is voodoo or drug induced... :D
Nice work on the vertical!  What exactly constitutes a "geezer"?  I would have to say that I don't know any geezers who can bust trail or ski/board bc...sounds like the young at heart can still perform well!  8)
I had no idea there were so many angry K-9s.
Makes me laugh.

Much appreciate the edited post.
A fine line between a useful post and giving away the goods.
I'm sure I have crossed it, although I try not to.
Yow!  A stinging rebuke.  I'm glad I was only tagged "Dumbo".  I have been called worse, though in other contexts.  Yeah, I'm guilty of a little too much enthusiasm, I suppose.  I also think "secret stashes" are overrated.  To keep a stash really secret, Maddog, maybe you should sweep away your tracks on the way up.  BTW, It was a great uptrack, and we are really grateful for your hard work ahead of us.  We saw you, but you di...
In defense of science, even the pseudo-snow science, it did snow between 3-7 inches, even on the front side.  The magic may be that the snow covered all of the tracks in the Slot environs.
Not to detract from the Magic, but, if snow appeared in certain places by magic alone, avalanche forecasting would be really tricky. That thought gives me the chills.  ;D

The Slot, I think, is some kind of magical place.... we were there yesterday, probably the 3rd group of the day to descend, and we found beautiful, untracked snow. Today, you too found untracked snow in there, though no new snow fell yesterday.

A magical place indeed.....

The magic of the internet and TRs with no pics!!! ;) ;)
jdclimber - Oh, you must be referring to "Mad_Dog"!  The above "maddog" is just getting started with their first post...

Very similar names, however...    ???

Whoa RustyKnee, Maddog is a super nice, kind person, but I think you found out how to make Maddog mad. Not good form.
While neither Jim Hill nor Yodlin are secrets, just about every ski guide for the PNW published include both, the secret stashes should be guarded. Out of pure self interest, one should not share them on the interweb or with a big group. Last year I found something on Yodlin that I thought was special and was sort of sad when a member of our group annouced he would take a gr...
Hey RustyKnees. Way to go dumbo. Tell the whole world about the lines on Jim Hill so the next time we go back it will be wrecked and crowded just like Yodelin every weekend this winter after some skank posted a wild endorsement about it on TAY. That was our skin line you were sucking a** on, at least do us the favor keeping quiet about the next line you stagger into a good stash. It won't be so crowded or skied out the next time you go back. By the way, that  skin line was put in by a...

Day 7 - Kitchener - Robert Smith - http://www.leelau.net/2008/kokanee2008/day7/

Day 6 - Crazy Mary and KGR couloir

Nice work. Love that area, and always wanted to do a trip up there this time of year. Thanks for the report.
Sorry that I could not figure out how to download the actual picture, but glad you were able to access them via the website that stores photos.

The little Jack Russell does an exceptional job climbing. Simply put, I cannot tire her out. On the way up she always stays in the skin track and on the way down follows my turns. When its really deep (Feb in Chair Peak basin) she actually stays on top due to being light and small, kind of like my son.

The Golden lab, on the other h...
You are correct if you dropped off Knapsack on the Eastern side then skinned Off to your right first you would hit Mt Pleasant then Spray Park.
It looked like the wind had  really did some damage on it though  :)
Great TR!!!!!!

It's weird to see Mowich and the other side with so much snow. I hit up the Flett last July and was dreaming of those turns coming back down to the lake.  Nice work!

Oh, for bearing-sake if you're at the top of the pass above Mowich (Knapsack),  is it down and up to the right towards Spray Park?
Thanks for the kudos and style points 8).  It was definitely a fun tour, one that has some definite possibilities for some more milking...here's a video compilation of some of our various tours, for anyone interested.

nice read, good info.  Thanks for the tr!  Sounds like you guys had a good time!
Awesome that the little pooch made the climb too!  Did he stay in the skin track?  I could never train my dog to do that...
Yeah, that was a fun tour! A little bit of EVERYTHING - and quite a bit of a few things.

Interested parties can get more of a feel for the day by checking out this YouTube video:

Now when that becomes a bankable sort of event in Europe, there will indeed be little reason to ponder the whole "BC huts versus eurotour?" question.

But seriously, are you ever coming back!?

Judge for yourself if it is a "bankable" event, skiing in the east facing shade just before sunset.    Got back to Seattle today, missed another...
Great trip guys. Definite style points for the shelter......
That was us yesterday just ahead of ya. We made two short 15m raps via trees on the side to get in to the "Snot" couloir (that's what I've heard it called). Roger went back today and skied it (65 deg!) no rap!!  :D
when I first saw the title I assumed snowmobile. But I just love that are so I had to open and read the thread.  I'm impressed.
Great skinning and skiing with you, too, Cornfed.  Thanks for sharing the Slot with us.  We watched you head over to that other gully and we were thinking that was probably a pretty smart idea.  We briefly thought of using your skintrack and hitting it on the way out, but we were pretty knackered by then.  We noticed the slope that you released on the way out.  Pretty poorly bonded stuff. No prob about the pics.  There are links to some video clips on the page below...
Sounds like you're having a great time down there.  Too bad we didn't hook up when we were down there last week.  The only problem with skiing outside western Washington is that you realize that bushwacking through slide alder and dense fir trees is not a required element of backcountry sking.  Of course, we do have decent skiing through July, not that common in California.

I met up with some folks at Alpine Meadows that lived full time in one of the houses n...
What he said. Thanks for sharing.
WOW!
Congratulations  on  a real " hard man" tour guys. :)
Very impressive and informative report and pics.
Scott,

W'll be touring between Bridgeport and Onion Valley.  Road access and snow conditions will determine where we ski and when.  I'll post a few TR.
we were yet another group of three hitting the crooked and slot that day--we intersected you guys when you went for lap 2 on the crooked.

lesson learned: in those conditions, likely more efficient to climb to head of slot by circling to S side of Snoq, rather than skinning and booting straight up the couliour!

good exercise, if you like wallowing...i presume you guys found some quality wallowing up the crooked, too.
Sorry that I missed you, Don. It looks like you did us old geezers proud.
Yeah, you and Mike wore him out, but it was his excited phone call Saturday afternoon that sealed the deal on our destination. So thanks for the heads up on the great snow!
Lee, your TRs are inspiring.
ho hum - more pow - more sun - http://www.leelau.net/2008/kokanee2008/day5/

Ha! One lap and home by 8:30. Traffic sucked since I couldn't use the HOV lane this time.

Don, thanks for looking for my camera. I got a new one, but I always seem to forget it at home.
Glad you got out touring this morning....2 or 3 laps?
Hey Dan - wake me up next time!

Brad and I are talking about an afternoon trip after work up there midweek sometime.  Maybe the crustiness will be softened up by then.  Let me know if you're up for that, too.  Your pup must be getting big now!

No pictures - still haven't replaced your lost camera eh?  We looked for it at Yodelin last month.  At cruising speed... 8)
Way to get after it Don!!! Not sure I could do 10,000 vert in 3 days!!!
The last photo is priceless!  Presume you finished with a handstand on the railing & a backflip onto the snow?  8)
And one shot from one of the other party members, just so there's an action shot of each party member...
http://www.leelau.net/2008/kokanee2008/day4/ - for more

Pow

Some steeps that didn't quite go

and some steeps that were deep

Ha - we wore Ari out the day before.  He was supposed to talk you into a trip to the Tatoosh and instead slept in!  Sorry I couldn't join you--sounded as good a trip as the day before.  Too bad summer is coming.  We too avoided the waterfall, but skiing around it in the trees was not much fun.
Sorry to cause you such pain Vogtski; well, not really  ;).  We crossed well before the Falls at about the 3300' level.  This was our first time up, so no haven't crossed the saddle from Eagle.  I think the travel and turns are much better staying on the north side, but if the gate was closed and you wanted a real early start, that would be a good option, but you'ld miss the chance on the way out to jib the bridge over the Nisqually  ;D!
We were the three plus dog group.  Great skinning and skiing with your group.  Thanks to Pete for setting track on the top portion of the Phantom.

We toured part-way up the New York Gully--I think that is what it is called--skiers left of Slot.  The top 500' was narrow and steep so we left it for others, but the snow was untouched by others and the sun crust missing due to the high cliffs so it didn't suck.

We did manage to set off the 6" from...
Looks like corn season down there Zap!  Nice TR, thanks.
However, with some of those place names somebody with an evil mind could rearrange and edit some of your sentences to make it sound almost pornographic. ;D
Oct 5th was rather epic but I wish that the conditions on Rainier this weekend was alittle bit more stable. Vis was crappy.
Just great, Boot...now every drive down the road below Canyon Rim, i'll see yur bodacious line and feel even older    :)  Did you cross the Paradise River below Carter Falls?  Ever dropped north from the col at the top of Eagle Pk trail?
Cool -- great meeting you, too, Tom.
