I thought the snow went beddy-bye @ night.
We skied to the Turtle Camp via Van Trump and were surprised to see down tracks from Hazard with no up track!  I figured it had to be a traverse trip via Paradise.  Mary said there must have been a Hummel in the group, she was almost right. (sorry Jason!)  Great trip report! -  Eric.
Nice trip guys and Monika.  Great choice given the high freezing levels.  Thanks for the story and pictures.  Very inspiring.
Spooky run ..thanks for the cool tr and pics!!!!!
That looks like the life!
Jas - But I guess we're both bringing home le pay cheque.
By the way Jason, meant to add: thanks for adding your pics.  As always those are some hot images!
Boot, the winds were light, although the others may have more to say about conditions up on the summit. The conditions were deep snow but you couldn't have asked for better weather. Climbing up under the stars were awesome.

Dave C. I know how you feel, especially after seeing how sky and ryan have been killing it. I feel inadequate.  :'(
We parked on dirt at the 27/28 junction just below 2400', but it required 4WD/high clearance and a push from Schu the last 1/4 mile to get past some icy tire ruts and runner board deep snow.  From the junction there was only one short dirt spot and by 2900', at Bon Jon Pass, and up, it was quite deep.  Tow-in might of been ok, but tow out would have been more like water skiing.  I felt like I was on a Jet ski 8).
Nice work you two.  Too bad my balls have shrunk to nothing  :'(
Wow, game on with that one.  Timing is everything!  Can't imagine the odds of being at Longmire getting a permit and having two people walk in the door with that kind of a plan and invitation, and being ready to go.  Curious what the winds were like for you?  We encountered 'knock you down' type winds Sat in The Oly's and heard of similar winds up byThe Pass.
We saw your tracks as we were heading down the Muir snowfield. We looked for the uptrack up the Kautz and never saw it, and then put it together: they climbed up and over the Gib ledges. That's bad ass. Maybe i'll have to go back next weekend and tick that off the list. How long did it take from Muir to Point Success?
I'm still ticked. You lucky bastards got it good. You can't imagine how hard it was for me to sit and look up at the sunny mountain, thinking of you gliding down it.

As we waited, two climbers caught up to Hannah and I.  They said Jason puked, then told them he had done the mountain in 10 hours.  I don't think they believed him.

Almost fell off my chair laughing when I read this. Without a doubt one of the smoothest trips I've ever had on the Mountain; pretty awesome for our first outing together.  :)
I have similar issues with Spirit (3) but my hot spot is side of heel. I molded with aftermarket (the 'Veisturs Sole' IMO a better aftermarket than superfeet) but still not ideal fit. I think the problem is that the liner isn't taking up enough space in the shell vertically, and I plan to do some experimenting with putting 1/4" thickness or so of a full-footbed wood riser under/outside the liner to see if that helps.
Nice work!  I would love to get a little Stuart in my life.

You don't know unless you try ;).  :).

It was the first time I tried it and it worked surprisingly well!
I tossed aftermarket foot beds in mine before i molded them. Trying to figure out how to keep my heels from slipping while climbing.
Welcome to the bc and TAY.  Something that I've picked up along the way...duct tape.  If you have "hot spots", tape them before you go.  As for liners, I just throw the mold.

Mountaineering is SO much better when you can ski a line that you had to climb to get to...or a line you have to rappel to access...that experience will make your options endless! ;)
Good job, you both have +1 relative to me for that one.  Gotta get motivated to ski the Kautz before the chute goes to ice.
Hey Dave, Jason, and Hannah- great to meet you all on the way up to Muir. Glad your trip went  so amazingly well, with sweet, sweet photos!

otherwise i think i'd die starting the evening before with no snooze like Hannah, Daveb and Jason ;) (way to go!).

You don't know unless you try ;).  :).
Lisa, the finger looked good to go.  Both Jason and Hanna had already done it, or else that may have been our descent.  Trumpetsailor, we dropped off the summit around 11 and made it to Paradise around 2.  As always, great photography Jason!
Cool! This TR along with Dave's on Rainier is getting the spring stoke going.
Thanks for the great TR and excellent pictures - I hope Charles lets them stay (photo guidelines seem to be looser these days). You really took advantage of the weather window!
Thanks for the TR dave. It makes me that much more jealous I didn't make it.

On my way down I took a few pics:

Nice work! Stuart's looking fat this year!
Nice work! What time did you drop off Point Success?
Maybe his handle should be changed to "BadDog"  ::)
There is something funny about a bunch of guys and girl(s) -----wearing helmets, toting safety gear, ropes and crevasse rescue equipment wearing dummy seatbelts.

G Vogt calls it the "whole catastrophe"
good luck next week
I was wondering what the Paradise Posse would be up to given the conditions today.  I reasoned that if there was good snow to be found, that you guys would find it.  I figured you for The Refrigerator.  Perhaps there was no good snow to find.  I'm sorry to have missed it. (sarcastic emoticon)

I'm glad to see some goods getting gotten in the Olympics.
Access seems to be the problem in the winter but the time is near.  I am curious how high you were able to drive.  It would seem that the roads would be holding snow relatively low for this time of year but I am ready to begin recon none the less.

Maybe I need a sled.

Or a tow in. ;)
Back to back (with no sleep) Muir to the bridge and Point Success to Paradise?  That's hard core daveb!  That would be more skiing than from the summit to sea level and nearly equivalent to climbing to the top from sea level.  You set the bar high sir.  Way to go.  Sorry to hear that Jason was ill.  Sometimes despite all of the preparation, things beyond our controll get the best of us.  It sounds like it worked out well however that Hannah was able to continue with her last minute partner....
Congratulations, having climbed the Kautz route I thought the headwall was steep, but skiing it....nicely done!!!  Talk about taking advantage of a good weather window and making the best of it!   8)  Great pictures!  How is Fuhrer Finger looking?
Dave K. and I scurried up to Muir today. We forewent the corn cycle on the upper part of the snowfield for his first trip all the way up. Winds were reasonably friendly - gusts to no more than 35-45, methinks. NWAC telemetry says ~mid fifties average while we were up there. Maybe I need to spend more time driving with my head out the window. The refrozen breakable crust was trixy above ~7.5k. The cooled-off but somewhat gooey pan point descent was fun (seriously cool pinwheels from earlier in th...
The main north bowl chute is long and has a very good consistent slope, however, definately not a place to be in bad avy conditions.  The northeast ridge offers a safe rout from bottom to top.
Sounds like you guys had a good day out!  Thanks for sharing the pics too!
Nice tr, great pics!  At least it was a nice day despite bulletproof conditions.
Robie, Ron J ,Mad Dog ,Jen, JW,Darryl and Chuck it was good to see you all in the parking lot. Hopefully you found some good cornices, I mean crevasses, to lower us into.

That snow was very weird. Sticky and gooey indeed. We made it to pan point, was almost blown off the mountain and decided to stick to the goo below (no pun intended).

Beautiful day otherwise.
.....so Sat, we hoped the road snow had settled enough to make it this time to the end of FR 2820, and indeed it had.  With a much earlier start and a bluebird day, we headed right up the bowl.  The snow was deep and wet, but pretty fast for travel.  Some rollers had come down the main chute and we saw some slides, mainly off the cliffs.  We took one run down the bowl and hurried back up for a second run down the north ridge, then dropped back into the lower bowl and rode rig...
Excellent!!!!!!!
Nice, very nice!  that last pic is class!
I talked to a BA employee at Heathrow who said this is classic - that the bag situation at Heathrow is a nightmare for them and this happens all the time as a result for people transferring through there. Dunno how much is BA versus Heathrow, but in any case a good warning for others...

I hope your trip is working out well now that you have worked out gear replacements.
Welcome to the area Kam. Don't forget your sunscreen and be careful of those pesky casino machines. They'll get you every time
British Air misplaced my skis flying into Geneva - luckily I got them late the next day. Did miss meeting up with a local to ski in Chamonix ....  :'(
Thanks for the report - it's good to know that the snow's doing what's expected.
I second the vote. This "maddog" has rabies, and needs to be put down.
