Rainy day yesterday in Innsbruck, then snowing began at 7 this morning, hmm looked like two straight days of no backcountry. We heard there would be afternoon clearing, so decided to head up and check things out. Got to Kuhtai at 1pm in a blowing whiteout, thought we might even need chains. Not a good sign.
Back to Gries where things were calmer, ate out sandwiches in the car and decided to head up to Praxmar since there was a small patch of blue appearing. Started up toward Lamsen, third try in three years for the summit, and weather just got better and better. Saw a dozen folks skiing down in knee deep pow, alright! Made the summit at 515pm, third time was the charm!, everything was clear, big wind the last hundred meters to the summit, testing gloves to the max. Awesome skiing down, searching for untracked lines in the knee deep. Tom thought it was his best powder this year, even better than Canada heliskiing.

Now when that becomes a bankable sort of event in Europe, there will indeed be little reason to ponder the whole "BC huts versus eurotour?" question.

Judge for yourself if it is a "bankable" event, skiing in the east facing shade just before sunset. Got back to Seattle today, missed another powder day near Innsbruck, but hear it was snowing in town last week?! Sounds like there is no need to go outside the county, much less the country.
