Thanks Filbo, always helpful to have those reports. We were headed that way on sunday but at Elbe we made the decision to go to Paradise because of the roads. I should be there sat with a group from Tacoma.
What's the current price of a one way ride ?

If I'm not mistaken it is now $20 as I ran into some bc skiers back there from Hood last year and they were...
Man, I'll bet it was good out there.  Thanks for the update.  I'll be in at Smith Brook this weekend for a class, hopefully we'll find some similar goods.
Sounds like I'd feel right at home there. Yanna looked a bit like that last shot of Wolfi at points today.
Quite nice again nearby today, though south aspects were starting to get some suncrust (so we mostly avoided skiing down them...).

Love the highway turn shot.
Nice. Was the Coug with Connolly?
we did both... upper mtn at Alpental was MUCH better than the lower slopes which got hammered until 10pm the night before.  new video redux:

Love that video -- very creative.  Haggis and I went up yesterday, but had a very short fuse.  We had planned on the Phantom, but given the huge dumpage decided to skin and ski Alpental instead.  It was fun to be out, but the super light on top of the firm heavily skied Alpental base made for a quick ascent but less than ideal skiing.  The knob would have been better -- clearly!  Couldn't believe how much light fluffy snow fell yesterday am.
this looks like alpental today..........without the liftlines.....the food was probably better too
That picture does tell the story!  Thanks...
You are all just jealous you don't own a purple fart bag.
That picture is very amusing under the I90.  We saw that this morning on the way out to Commonwealth and were joking it must have been some park jibbers, turns out it was you guys making the tracks!

Very good boarding today just further along the ridge from where you were - with the sun this time though!
Amen and Hallelujah!

My 99mm waist skis just aren't cutting it lately.  If we keep getting snow that light, I'm going to have to get some bigger boards!

Thanks for the turns J.! (and the crepes :)  )

BARNEY REPRESENTZ YO!!

OK that gangsta barney outburst had me chortling through my coffee too.  That dude probably feels bad that you're making fun of him though.
I love you, you love me, we're a happy family--go get'em barney
Nice!  Glad to hear the NW is getting some good stuff finally.  Almost makes me wish I were home.  Now all we need is kaiser schmarm and apfel strudel in North Bend, maybe Martin can start a restaurant? ;)

Mike! What's cracken??  Welcome to TAY!  It was a pleasure skiing with you this past Friday.  Let me know when you feel comfortable enough to head out on a day tour.  Best of luck to you in your quest for the grail. :)

It may be the $75 spring pass Stevens is selling.

Or maybe it was the 18" and bluebird  ;)
Nice job, boys!!! Went up to the resort Mon., couldn't believe the devastation that one day of weekend warriors could do... must of been a free for all at the resort.
I expect you to rub it in real good, Jim....
Your lucky you didn't try Stevens I can't remember when I've seen such a mob :-[. It was total chaos and no parking we had to park at Smith Brook and settle for a tour up to the lake. Looks like you got th goods ;D. It may be the $75 spring pass Stevens is selling.
Nice job of getting that run above Twin Lakes in - I've pondered that many times while hiking the PCT in summer, but never seem to get over that way in the right conditions.

Yesterday was no exception. We were elsewhere in the general neighborhood yesterday, and found wonderful turns on W through S aspects (though a bit of a crust down lower on the S aspects beneath the new snow). What a nice contrast to the first part of '09!! Snow seemed generally quite stable where we we...
Hi Silas !

That is the second time that we miss each other in Europe. I was the whole of last week in Sölden but had no partner to skitour. So I skied the lifts in Sölden harvesting the powder as the friends were not available during the week.

On sunday I watched them competing at the Lampsenspitze.

I have never seen so many people on tele and AT gear riding the lifts as I did yesterday.

Robert

I was pleased to see quite a few bc oriented skiers during the previous week at Stevens. Unfortunately none of the skiers that I approached were familiar with our little website.
I agree... I believe going up from silver fir to grand junction thru nordic pass is the best way to go to and from this area. So nice to finally be in the trees again. Glad you enjoyed those turns down to twin lakes. And your right...the sun can ruin those slopes easily.
Great photos Jim.  I saw some tracks on the ridge while skiing Stevens with my 5 year old and was glad to see somebody getting into the BC.  I think a lot of people picked the safety of the lifts.  I have never seen so many people on tele and AT gear riding the lifts as I did yesterday.

I would love to try the cinnamon rolls, but unfortunately I am gluten free.  Just rice cakes and melted snow for me.
that was really an epic day for me and Brenda. Thanks Don and John for the trail breaking, it would've been tough if we hadn't run into you guys. Too busy skiing to get many photos, but I managed a few. The first is of Brenda the day before during the dumpage around Nordic Pass area. Skiing Catherine in the second. The last is climbing up above Twin Lakes with endless turns below.

Another great day with Silas and Wolfi! Couple more pics:

A little Google Earth drawing.

Thanks for the Silver Pk tip.  We went to Catherine via Nordic Pass, skied the north side, then pushed on back through Nordic Pass to about 4800 ft on the east slope of Silver Peak.  What a wonderful fall line down to Twin Lakes!  We skied 1400 vertical and there was 400 to 600 more above our start.  Best snow of the season for me today by far!
Play hookey, call in sick, do whatever it takes to ski tomorrow!
John
Since I know you are game, I'm doing a quickie dawn patrol tomorrow morning since I went sledding w my daughter today instead of skiing -- need to be in Seattle at 9:15 so I think we might ski the Phantom, or if there is a decent re-fresh tonight Alpy is always closed Mondays so that might be even better.
A few more pics.

Wolfi is an amazing guy:

Big thanks to Silas and Wolfi for the fun day!

Thanks for the beta.  Nice pic!
Good to see that you are still alive and kicking,Ross. I haven't heard anything from you all winter.I will likely make one more trip down to Stevens Pass in the next month; I will let you know when and maybe we can hook up on the mountain.

Laps on radio and catherine and off of silver down the east face to twin lakes out cold creek to hyak..so I guess almost all of the south side of the pass ;) Sorry I don't own a gps with the software for route overlays.

Wow, nice, that's strong work!
J
Excellent. Way to get out and cover some ground!  It was an amazing day to be out. :D

Where'd you go?  Or did you ski ALL of Snoq Pass (as the title implies)?  ::)
Thanks Andrew for the write up and the company this morning. :)

Thanks for the report Andy, I have been wondering all day what snow conditions might be up there.  I hope we get some more cold snow this weekend over the crest and I can convince Larry to go out early next week.

Hi Jane,
I found mostly 12 to 14 inches of super light uncohesive snow (from yesterday), on top of 5 to 7 inches denser settl...
Temps were in the teens most fo the morning, but I suspect the strong sunshine may have begun to impact south facing slopes.  Top of the ridge was wind affected with one or two spots down to the crust.  Winds appeared to have come mostly from the south because drifting was to the N/ NE.  We saw very stable conditions with one small sluff on a short but steep road cut which was close to 45 degrees.

The powder was VERY light.  Haggis - sorry we missed you this mornin...

I used to peer over the ropeline into that area when I skied there in Junior High....but it was permanently closed terrain back then.  Glad you got to ski it!  It's a great line.  Someday I'll get back there.  I hope you tried the cinnamon rolls at the Alyeska Bakery!  Best in the world.
Nice photos of your Tirolian Ski Tours!  I spent  a year of college in Munich and toured quite a bit in that area that year.  I have some fond memories of the village of Gries and the Westafalenhutte.   Pretty amazing skiing and the access is just amazing.  Add the food and beer and it is an intoxicating combination. Enjoy!
I hear ya... I already miss Alaska, and it has only been a few days!
