Congratulations, Lapaz! That is very inspiring. I have a feeling It wont be long before your daughter will be out there shredding it up! It was great to ski with you guys, especially grateful for the skin track back out!
I think you'd be lucky to drive to our parking spot.
The forecast for 3500 ft is for snow and snow and snow between now and Saturday:

Sounds like Chugah has very good taste in ski partners. Chris I don't think I'd let this get out. Let's just keep it between you and me. ;)

It gets worse Robie.
Joedabaker just told me he saw Chugach following the President of K2 Skis down Exterminator as well.
Amar, Hummel, Rollings and now the K2 President.

Woo Hoo indeed!  I couldn't have asked for a better day to celebrate my 100th month of skiing!  It's been a long journey- 4 knee surgeries, 3 new jobs, double pneumonia, moved, got married, had a baby, and lost my father all in the 8+ years.  I was so grateful to spend the day with my husband and some of my best ski buds by my side as we floated through thigh to waist deep pow on the...

Thanks guys. It was my best opening day ever.
My last two years were sunny forecast and we ended up skiing in rain, fog or both.
I think I am beginning to figure out how to read the weather forecast.  :)

Yeah Joeda, it was sweet (Good meeting up with you too Scotty!)  We'll all have to get out again for some turns together...fun times for sure!

Always nice to see you and Kyle out and about. Isn't this early snow great!!

Very nice.  Way to get up there before the car access is completely blocked by snow.
Great photos and turns, thanks for sharing.
We didn't have to bust through that much...cat track was about a day or two old, and after convening at the Naches for some good times, that snoslut had done the dirty work the previous day.

Kyle skinning up the cat track.

Nonetheless, there were refills and plenty left for some good laps on Green Valley.  Lots of friends and...
I was also a part of the "crowd" up with JimD's group, celebrating Lapaz25's 100th month. "Epic" may be a bit strong of a term, but it sure didn't feel like November, except for a few small scrapes to the bases...
Holy cow, the weather looks like it was awesome there.
No really I am interested.

Sweeneycoolski! yeah man I wa wonderin if Id see you up there...Misty and I just cruised up on the fly. We'll get out soon for sure.

We found some good stuff on the backside of Cowboy, see TR here.

oh yes you did!!! that makes me a huge idiot.  nice shots!!!
Yahoo for Hyak!  Nice TR, was skinning and took a few runs at West yesterday, was planning to check out Hyak and the upper nordic trails tomorrow-so thanks for the beta.

Skis on the feet--check.....sliding on snow--check....bonus for a few turns.  Some people ski all the time without much turning, it's called ski touring (warning, it will make one closer to the mountain, though have less opportunity to talk about things that are "epic", "Gnarly (gnarls, gnar-gnar)&...
...you picked a good day to go.  I headed up today as an intro into the ways of the split-board.  Excellent exercise, however the temps turned the snow into wet cement- not so good for turns, and too early to point it just yet.  Oh well, beats work.  Whatever that is...
Good thing you went when you did, the road was plowed to the top today.
It definitely counts!

Certainly no worse than my first trip of the season the year I lived in St Louis...gotta keep the right perspective.

Thanks for the heads-up on the fence and the other obstacles.
WE did skin up the return road from base to  greenvalley. I pretty sure we owe that to Eric and his friends from olympia. And my posted picture was thiers and our tracks together,
Who is going to own up to being the group of ~seven punchng a tips to tails follow my leader skin track straight up slope towards Box Car?

I thought that was really smart! Way to go guys!

Jameson got some great pics of our crew up there enjoying the powder: Full TR and pictures here.
Hey Robie I saw you guys breaking trail up the skiers left side of Green Valley as we were dropping in. Nice turns guys.

Here is my version of the same day
It was great sharing the skin track with both of you. Its so funny we have seen each other sooo many times on the mountain yet this was the first time taking turns with you Joe (resort wise). Anyways I look forward to sharing many more powder days with you and anyone else who has a powder addiction.

Yet another version of the day can be found here
Looks like fun!  We were out at Hoodo and had similar conditions, though not quite as much snow!  It should get better later this week.
Rafe, my man. Wish i woulda known you were up there! Looking forward to getting out with you.
That avy was set off by a dude we were skiing with. He caused it by airing into a terrain trap, even after being warned about slab activity. Even though it was a selfish move, it gets to be the warning sign to all my beloved Baker BC goons that even though it's early and the base is minimal, IT IS NOT SAFE. BE CAREFUL!
It was fun up there Sunday. I might head back on Weds. Any word on their opening? Or the beginning of the grooming?
Awesome day. Great to see you Joe. Lets do it again soon.
I missed Malachai Constant's report sorry for the rethread!
Yes it was an amazing day!

More snow then I expected.

Good times..

DEEP! But from Hogsback where there were no tracks and not so steep it was as much work going down as it was going up. At Big Chief there was enough slope to make it go down through really cut up heavy snow. Fun, thigh burning. 2' min unconsolidated, high moisture content. Bottomless drifts in places. Plenty of vegetation and rocks in other places.

Yeah...and t...
Robie, you were there, too? Sorry to have missed you.

Brad (Moscawulff), Matt, Mark and I all took a tour in the magic bus (aka the sleek black volvo wagon with a car top carrier) headed to Crystal at the oh so late hour of 6:15 from Tacoma to make it in time for sunbreaks at Campbell Basin Lodge and early morning lunch about 10:30. Unfortunately for Matt, he was having significant trouble with his new boot and binding set up--don't ask me, it's AT stuff and I don't kno...

A lot was nearly full Ski Patrol practicing rescues on bunny lift. Good skin track a couple of feet of powder where no body skied or packed. Pictures and report Beautiful day sun and fresh powder.

very nice video!  based on our experience at Stevens today, the teen was actually probably trying to ski, and the skier was fast-motioned in the editing.

We parked to go over to Skyline side, but Fred forgot his probe and I forgot my shovel, after some months of needing neither, and we couldn't agree on who would get poked but not dug up and who would be waiting for discovery by shovel, so went to the non-running lift area where there were more eyes out and plenty of shovel...

yes, we were happy also! Too bad we missed each other in the orgy.

Next time.
I was skiing with Pam but not Chugach, my husky. He left us early on the skin track up and did a lap with Jason Hummel and Amar. We next saw him at the top of Iceberg but he went off to ski Exterminator with  the Keith Rollings group. I saw him next at the bottom of Forrest Queen...

Your teen displays an admirable and Zen-like patience. Backcountry skiing may not be far off.
It feels like, once you gain skinning ability, any other sort of uphill travel (bootpacking on a nearly flat run) seems silly, and foolish. The snow brought out every technique today.
Great video. Not a bad first day to the season we got in a couple of runs on the Chief too and it was a stoker!

Great use of the tripod, really improves watchability, rather than the bumpy earthquake like shudder of other home videos.
