Can one of you Walla Walla people direct me to a good spot in the general vacinity to do some AT?  I'm just starting to get into it and would love to find a couple spots to practice in.  Was planning on cruising up to Tollgate to see what I can find.

Hey Stew. I think Bluewood has the best options for any kind of touring and more vertical than most areas aro...

He would be a rastafarian in my language.

No worries!

In other language, a "Rastafarian" practices a monotheistic religious movement that accepts Haile Selassie I, the former, and final, Emperor of Ethiopia, as the incarnation of God, called Jah or Jah Rastafari. They tend to be pretty hard-lined and not accepting of women's equality, o...
Great to see everyone out enjoying the early season snow.  Good skiing for October and great cloud watching through out the day with a combination of low and high clouds.  I was in the Paradise Glacier group through a serendipitous meeting on the way up.  Snow was wind affected up high that turned into nice powder as we dropped elevation.  Unfortunately we were stopped by a larger crevasse lower down and after traversing half the glacier looking for a bridge eventually decided the risk/reward ra...

BTW, the guy with dreadlocks isn't a Trustafarian, if that's who you're referring to.

It was a great day to be on Tahoma, and fun to see all of you... We were the quiet party of 3 moving kinda slow on the uphill. This was really the first good exercise I've had in a month of cleansing, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Our cleanse diet (vegan, no grains, no nuts) may not be very complimentary to ski touring, as some of us "hit the wall" a couple times, but I actually felt great moving at a moderate pace, and would have continued to camp Muir if the weathe...
So many nice turns for October! What fun. It's been a year and a half since I skied snow that light and fluffy...
I bounced around the rest of the night like a ping pong ball try to refocus coming off that high... :)

Good to see so many friends old and new. I have a just a few pictures, but not so good as I dropped my camera in the snow making everything blurred or whiteout, arrgh! (Thank goodness the camera recovered though...)

Looking forward to more, hope to...
Happy 4 years Snowdawg!!!  Pipeline Porter....  mmmmmmmm.  :)
It was good to meet a bunch of you up there!  Lot's of nice turns and not too many rocks for October.

Here's a few pics, there's a shot of Gorp and a few action shots of Holly.

to 8200',then perfect powder to Pebble Creek.  Below that some chose to boot, occasionally sinking calf deep, but most skied right to the parking lot with only a few base scrapes and short ski portages.

Silas, Holly & I carpooled down and had a great day in the mountains, even if I did leave my ski poles at home.  Great company up there and back again. ...
So the wind would have been pushing you diagonal downhill huh?  With that wind direction you would have been "shadowed" by the mountain... it was gusty wind wasn't it?

Hmm, that wind direction may have deposited some snow up higher than where you were on the rocks.  It is also the reason (IMO) those rocks were snowless and slick.

The emphasis on the shhh enssssured there where freshhhhhh tracks today.

Scotsman,,, chugach missed out even more today. A little hotty joined us ;)... Definatly have to put together a huskie tour this year.

Mack, I tried doing that with lucky in june, but he couldn't get over the first scrambly part at the first little peak. He's getting old. I was thinking some of the southish facing clearing down to the powerlines would have been good.
thats gotta be one of the best titles, and report (with your friend)

shhhh,  I could use it for  Shhhasta !
great you caught the whole enchilada (fresh w/ sun)  congratulations
I'd have to say more west to south west winds, not much fun in slick conditions!
ThePositive1,

Which way was the wind blowing when you were up there Sunday?
wouldn't ya know it? I'm oncall this weekend.
I am officially ready for winter!

Still inbounds, and I did see a lift moving, but started out of bounds, and took the back way. No rocks where harmed in the making of these tracks. The 18"s kept me far enough off of the ground.

Good work, Scott.  I "hiked" Cowboy Mountain from the south Sunday, and it was grueling class 2-3 in 1/2-2" of snow.  The snow started falling as...

I just got done drooling over your pics, nicely done!!!  What a difference 3 days can make.
I showed these picture to my husky Chugach and he is one sick little puppy, SICK WITH JEALOUSY that is. Nice work man , we need to get the huskies together.
I feel swine flu coming on for Thursday and Friday, cough.. cough.!
Dang, nice work man, I'm jealous!
looking nice up there. wished i coulda headed up but stupid training for work that i just couldnt miss. o well maybe this weekend!
Wednesday might be the better day to hit Heliotrope. Going to keep an eye on the weather but i think i may head up there in the AM, thursday is looking like the snow level rises quite a bit through the day, then drops again late at night.

Very nice. I was planning on going up there this Thursday for all the fresh snow that has been falling up there, hopefully the wind hasn't blown it all off the ridge. Congrads on the TAY!

I knew the weather would be dicey, but we were pumped to go regardless!

With patience in the whiteout we got lucky with the on and off weather.

Take care!

How was the crevasse situation in your opinion, enough snow to bridge them stongly enough? I'm always worried by early season turns up there. When you see it dry, there's a lot of...
The needle ice was all over the Paradise area Sunday - it started just a few hundred vf above the parking lot, and went up as high as I did.
The Cascades are a good thing!

Has anyone over at TGR posted a Muir TR?

Is  the use of "douchebag "now officialy allowed by TAY?
I thought it was still on the "12 things" you can't say on TV, Radio or TAY.
I'm just trying to keep up with the offical TAY PC list, you know I'm a stickler for the rules .

I've always  kinda liked...
Sessioning the half-pipe in the park, way to go. Good job making lemonade outta lemons!
They're called needle-ice. Here is a link to an explanation of its formation.

So much for parking - there was plenty of room for everyone yesterday, even with douchebags parked every which way in the lot. Does anyone know the story behind these crazy ice crystals?

Several inches high, and supporting pebbles and dirt, seem to have formed overnight on Saturday?

I laughed too when we got back to the parking lot and saw the row of cars totally out of whack!  I guess we could've been further off than we were.

We WERE further off..  we got back to the parking lot around 4pm and found my car in the absolute middle of an aisle and the following neatly printed note on my windshield:  "nice parking, douchebag"

Snow covered the lot, so I had no idea where to park, but funny when I returned to see how everyone just parked around the cars that parked wrong.

Fun trip and great company! The turns were fast and smooth...it always makes a better trip when the skiing is much better than expected.  I used splitboard crampons for the first time and they could quite possibly be the best investment in gear I've made in a years.

Congrats to Merk on 4 and to GregLange on 12...that's quite impressive!

Cheers!
Also worked the early shift on the snowfield this Saturday. Left Mill Creek PNR @ 530 am and then left the Paradise lot @ 8:15 a.m. Only 2 other cars in the lot when I left. Snow covered the lot, so I had no idea where to park, but funny when I returned to see how everyone just parked around the cars that parked wrong.

Started to skin after Pebble Creek on boiler plate snow. Must have rained and froze the night before, then a small amount fo snow fell that moring, or it all goot blown...
