Forgot to mention the most impressive sight of the day:  two snowshoers using pooperscooper and garbage bag to clean up after their pet!  Wouldn't it be nicer for everyone if all who bring their dogs into ski country did the same?

Dog owners of TAY, set the good example for skiers and FOCUS (friends of clean unsullied snow)!  Thank you.

Frontcountry appeared well tracked out by 330pm to me. Sidecountry that required hiking still has few tracks. Snow began falling again (lightly) around 3pm. Tomorrow should be excellent. Have fun.
Your religious experience hath put my day at hyak to shame. Mad props, wish I was there, but Hyak was pretty awesome too!
Nice work, glad it worked out for you.  What were the snow conditions like?  Did you dig any pits?
how did it look inbounds? Friends might head up tomorrow so i might tag along but at 3.5 hour drive its a long ways if its tracked out for the most part
Great stuff.  Good to see pit pictures and results showing up regularly, too.  Nice work y'all.
Just for reference, Dan is 6 feet tall  ;D.
Nice tracks Dan.  I knew that someone must have been over there and were gettin goods.

It's funny that a patroller warned you that it would suck.  How could it have sucked?  The coverage was plenty to have a go and the snow quality... well, you know about that.

Skiers right of Brain Damage?  Is that Appliance Chute?
Nice TR on the blog Kyle, thanks for writing it up.  I know that I will visit it in the dry season and try to conjure memories of that day.  I am glad that a few of our pictures turned out alright although they don't seem to do justice to the wonderful conditions.  I could hardly believe our luck with the sun and snow quality.

The line off Northway Peak will be my benchmark for powder turns this season.  So nice.

I am afraid I must have gotten a bit...
Great shot of the surface hoar.  Good to know it is out there for the weekends trips!

Thanks for the info!
You mean this peak? Looks interesting... just a long way to get there.
Sure thing:

Please note that this version does not come in the same hi-viz color, but it does use the same core technology.

What is the name of the device and manf. please?
In fact the yellow thingy in picture #2 is a very sensitive measurement device used by the analysis team to gauge potential energy in the snow pack and overall schralpage potential. The device uses a sophisticated technological approach to measure the overall steepness and angle of the slope and miraculously requires no batteries whatsoever!

We strongly believe this technology presents a 'green alternative' to the slope angle measurement needs of back country skiers and we...
You had better check your batteries "old guy".  Awesome post!!
Thanks to our sponsor Scotty for the ride and laughs, Stewie for keeping him in line, Joe for his sense of humor (which apparently not all seem to get...), and Kyle for setting an awesome skin track! Great day out with good friends and awesome snow.

Hate to be critical but in the second photo is that your transceiver hanging on the outside of your coat?  I hope not.

That would not be his transceiver...

11-12-09: On skin up to top of Big Chief, saw some impressive surface hoar crystals @ 5400ft, S to SE aspect.  Could be a problem (w/l) on simular aspects after this Friday & weekend snow dump we're expecting.

Otherwise the snow seems to be holdin up better than expected, found decent powder stashes esp in shaded areas.  Despite spotty coverage on some of steeper front-side terrain, ski bases suffered no rock shots... nice Nov powder all afternoon :)
OK:

Hella snow, and pretty heavy. Folks with little skis were gettin pwned.

Wtf is with the bluebird pictures i keep seeing of Crystal?? I wanna see where Im goin at Baker!
Skin tracks happen...

Nice work.  Great pics -- though I have to admit I was really hoping that first once was Silver Peak by Snoq, not Crystal... :)
The backside did hold some good turns. Skiers Left of the chair above big chief has some filling in to do, it was fun and skiable but there are many christmas tree heads sticking up.
Sweet video.  That was an awesome early season day for sure.  Nice to get up there before the access is blocked by snow too.
Likewise, Debbie, Brett, & I were up there all day.  Mostly backside.  Nice snow.  All day.  Great to be out.  As we were headed out we took a quick shuffle up the cat-groomed mayhem to hogsback and got a good look at Wildcats on our way down.  We couldn't believe how full and covered it looked.  We were wishing we had made our return from the backside via Wildcats rather than Roller Coaster / Crest Trail.  Oh well, perhaps next time.

Nipple deep isn't a very good quantitative description: picture a short woman with big boobs who telemarks.

Almost the same as a Hummel last Sunday at Crystal

Scotsman, I believe I mentioned on Nov 4 that I would send some snow alecapone's way....

Thanks Gary, very welcomed. Now send more!
I beg to differ Lord, Shred and I were up there all day and found good snow for most runs (backside of Cowboy not good where the sun had crusted the south slopes a couple days ago), the best being our last down Wildcats. TR here.
Thanks Lisa, but I am flying to the midwest in the AM, and wont be back until mid week. So it should be epic this weekend. ::)

Stacy, there was so much unfinished business around, but that definitely seems to be the grand prize of the local area.
Telemon, I thought of you when at the beer store in Pemberton! I asked the clerk if he had any good hoppy beers. He said "no, but I wish we did. I'm going to try to get some in here soon". He then took note of my request for Tree Brewing's Hop Head!! I said to myself, "that Telemon is full of s**t!!!! Just kidding...Previously, back in Bellingham,...
Nice John, are you up for some more turns Friday?  I'll see if I can get Kurt to head north as well.
I agree, great skiing this morning,  Two feet of soft powder in places.  But by the time we returned to the car (around 10), most of the good stuff had been mucked up by cats, and there were a couple dozen folks starting to skin up.  They didn't get the good turns we did; I know that.

Toby, you forgot to mention the unfinished business?

Before I saw the photo, I thought that unfinished business was Toby trying some great IPAs while in B.C.. Another good one to add to the list would be from Surrey's Central Brewing (just across the border) called Red Racer IPA, available in most government stores, at a great price I may add.
Most likely because it's still early compared to most seasons and because the area was performing some work at the top of Hyak. As of recent, they had a track hoe at the top of dinosaur that need to be brought down.

Those are tough aspects to ski fwiw.  Approach is a bit adventurous too.  But not to say it wouldn't be fun to try

Good thing you went when you did, the road was plowed to the top today.

Really?  I have never seen that road get plowed before.  I wonder what is up with that...
Jeff! Were you wearing your traditional neon? How could I have missed you? Give me a shout sooner than later, I'd love to ski with you and Robie again...
And as for my car, it is all of 11 years young. :) Haha.

Robie, you were there, too? Sorry to have missed you.

Hey Holly, we thought we saw your car right next to us in the parking lot but then we decided it couldn't be---it was too new to belong to anyone who'd hang out with us ;). Hope to see you out there sometime soon.

Kind of like how they say it's possible to drown in just a few cm of water!
Love the creek shot; very nice image!
I can't wait to see the footage of the "nipple deep"!!!!!!
