So much snow!  At least now you are strong enough to drag your "weight training" boards up a hill.

I'd love to ski if you don't mind meeting new people  :)

Excellent!  Let's get in touch mid-July.
Cool one Scott! No encounters with naked hippies this time?
Nice write-up for sure, Ryan, thanks for linking it here -- sounds like a good day for you.
nice one Ryan....great write-up
Andres and I were eyeing the vicinity of the Yawning Gl. when we were there a week ago.  #$&#$(&#$& ankle wouldn't have any of that.  $)&@#$#& injuries!  At least you weren't avalanched on & cut up from the debris like some of us were on Sahalee.  That made the whole ascent a waste of time in my book.  Good trip Ryan.
Awesome work Ryan that has been on my tick list as well.
Thanks for the report.  I'll be skiing the South Sister July 11-13 and planned to camp at green lakes etc.  I hope to ski the Middle Sister too.  I'll have plenty of time as I'll be spending two nights.  But I'll be the only one skiing in our group.  I'm glad to hear there is a huge snow pack and excellent corn.

Telemack, I notice you are from Kitsap County.  I live in Poulsbo, am new to the area and tele. I've recently start...
Zap and Jill,

It was good to finally meet you two  :D.

Dinner at the Brewery was definitely superior to instant mashed potatoes fixed over a Jet Boil. I will also second Mack's comments on the warming hut. ;)

We couldn't have asked for better conditions than we found in the Sisters, good times.

Enjoy the rest of your road trip.

Gary
Lowell,
This is a great report!. Spending time in the mountains with family is so rewarding. In your last photo, the similarities in facial expressions between your son and your wife are striking.

Thanks for sharing,

Gary
What a great story!! Thank you for taking the time to share. I look forward to getting my boy out on the mountain someday soon!
yup, road is open to the end
I know the area very well and as far as I can recall there is no "expert shortcut" from top of sherwood!I have been pondering that, can you give me another hint?
So, how's the hip ?

Gonna get a new one. Originally scheduled with Jill's guy in June but delayed it until August with a different cutter. Autumn is good time for rehab for the following season.
Keep sending us those stoke reports.
So Chiwawa Road is open to the end?
I was up on Black on Thursday with Juya and wallowed up the route, Willie. Good times. Love that view off the summit. It's always nice.

Cprahl....always need excuses to return to places, especially nice ones.
Bagged Black yesterday.  Always fun to find out who's tracks you were following.

Did you summit Black?  Whoever did previously, I would buy them a beer or three in thanks for the steps they kicked in.
J - Beautiful images of a cool & wild area. It would certainly be nice to drop these lines into N Fork Bridge Ck, but alas… On our recent outing, we toured up and across (R to L) the first (lowest) ridge shown in the foreground of your first image. This is what I referred to as “Dream Ridge”, after Lowell & Carl’s field designation of “Dream Peak” (Pt. 7910’) so many years ago. This is the ridge shown with yellow arrows in Dwayne’s 3rd photo post, as taken from “Spectacular Ridge” lookin...
Pretty cool, Lowell.
It's nice to se the backcountry "take". :)
This report makes me happy!

Also, Lowell, you've aged amazingly nicely. "Well preserved" as my wife Jennifer would say.
Way to tour 'd' hood!

Sounds like everything in terms of  slots at bottom of Leuthold's was fairly causal...

W'east is cool.  When I did  Leuthold's, I climbed the regular route which is now the "old chute"- the standard way that looked crappy for  skiing for you and then worked my way over from  the w. crater rim to the top of Leuthold's (the next one is Sandy Headwall and much spookier..).  I liked doin...
That's really awesome Lowell -- what fun.
Yes, very nice.  Saw your tracks as we overlapped part of your tour today.
Can you guys see where you went in this pic?

If so, I was dreaming of this slope when up on Goode a few months ago. It was gorgeous. I'm even more jealous if you guys had a chance to ski those awesome looking slopes.

Neat trip Lowell -- I love the "that was then" comparison shots.
Way to get after it on the south..

BTW, how was the suncup situation over on the Prouty route?

How about the 'shrund..maybe all filled in?
Sunday wasn't too shabby either.  Had to ski-step through a couple veggie patches on near the road.
Looks like an easier day then your other weekend plan.

Fine choice!
Great report, thanks for the detailed info.  I skied the section from Silent Lakes to Logan along Spectacular Ridge a few years ago and agree with Lowell - it's one of the prettiest and least traveled places I've been in the Cascades.
Nice to meet the other Don B, Don  ;D  Lovely day up there
Damn, wish we had delayed the departure Steve!  Would have been nice to meet you.  Lovely day indeed.

Beck, Hopi was auditioning for Disney's latest all day.  Assuming they're doing a film about half-deaf, ski-crazed barking dogs, that is.  Sorry y'all didn't get Maude!  Hope the shin heals up quick.
Nice! Looks like it was a fantastic day up there! And I particularly love the "puppy amidst the flowers" shot.  That looks like it's out of a Disney movie or something! :)
After skiing Bachelor, we stopped at the TH where you parked.  I've never seen so much snow at that location.  Also met the fellow you guys setup camp next to.  He mentioned you were heading up South Sister and were really moving.  Glad to hear that you and Gary enjoyed the tour of the Lava Flow, especially seeing you both had long drives back home.  I could tell that TBill and Joe were on a mission to tour non-stop.   ;)

Hopefully, we'll link up at Lassen.  Weather is impro...
You skied off the summit as I was skinning the final 100' verts.  Good looking turns : )  Lovely day up there

Your photos seem quite clear and sharp. Did you get a new camera during convalescence?

It's Jill's Panasonic DMC-FZ18 which is a couple years old but still works.

So, how's the hip ?
Great to see you and Jill back in action Zap.
I pedaled around the lake last summer drooling at all the great ski lines. One of these days but the dang thing called work keeps getting in the way.

That's a lot of snow; same as everywhere down there, huh.   8)
Three years ago I lost the way on the way up, then after skiing the northeast face had a fun thrash traversing back south.  I ran into the only person I saw all day, who was descending
the trail right where I was hoping to intersect it.
Hey Zap and Jill---it was great to rendezvous with you guys.  Trevor, Joe and I got to the summit of Bachelor just before 7 PM. Even in the evening the snow was nicely carveable, just a bit grabby down near the base.  Two hours after de-skinning we were lifting glasses to toast our "Southern Cascades Mini-TAY Fest", thanks to the ski & suds shuttle service.   :D

The Frank Ellis Warming Hut made for a great bivvy!  Last-second cramming of minmal BC camping gear into day p...
Nice shots of the waterfall run - they give a good feel for what it's like (except for how you can't quite see if the snow is continuous until you drop/traverse to right above the falls, IIRC).
Nice TR and pics!  Looks great and lots of fun.  Beautiful area.
Cool - nice to hear that McLoughlin is holding up well!  It's funny on the descent - we did the same thing a few years ago, ending up off by a couple miles from where we thought we there.  Something about the lines off the upper mountain spinning you off, and then it all looking the same once you hit the trees there.
Nice work!  I've been wanting to visit Pelican for awhile now on a combo trip to McLoughlin or Crater Lake.  Looks like you found lots of snow and good conditions!  Thanks for posting!
Nice!  I'll be down that way in a couple of weeks with family for camping and am hoping to get away for an hour or two for a few scraps on Hilman and maybe Mt Scott.  Looks like the snow is holding up well since I was down there on Memorial weekend...
Beautiful.  What a spectacular place to ski!
Looks great Modern!  Can't wait to get back out there with you guys!

Must've been pretty nice if you got a 2nd lap on Eldo before the booters got going.
Maybe it's just a personal thing, but there's something special about the country between Silent Lakes and Mt Logan. The picture from Spectacular Ridge brings the memories flooding back. Thanks.
