love the grin after the big face shot
Was up there today. Little sign of your tracks, nothing on the down, hard to find on the up. I love that place. Was all alone at first and then many parties showed up, all played nice.
Did you notice the trees with the blue lines painted on them? Does anyone know the meaning?
Today (12/31) was epic.  All your tracks had filled in with new snow.  No wind.  Crisp air temp.  Mostly sunny.  Ranger Dave set the early skintrack and got in two laps before traffic duty called him away.  I did 9 laps (new PR) without crossing a track except at the runout.  Quite a few people out and about as well. Did not see any tracks into north bowl.  Since I was by myself I decided to stay on the road side so I could drag myself down if needed. Heard the parking lot was full but didn'...
I usually skin an hour from the parking areas, and I use a fanny pack (for 4 hrs of laps). - think pow
F.Y.I.  , Wa. pass is about 6-7 miles from Delancy ridge , west on Hwy 20 .      X
Thank you for taking the time to share your snowpack observations in addition to the fun video footage Jeff - it is much appreciated!
Thanks for sharing!  That was ridiculous!! I wanted to go up today, but my husband talked me out of it.  Tragic to miss that!  At least I have three days of touring ahead of me.
The sled ride back was just as crazy!  Never had face shots  before while driving the road!!

Wild, windy Colorado!  Quandary is a good one for epics. I think every mountaineer should have one on their resume.

See you tomorrow?

you betcha.  Snowing at my house right now.  I might make a lap in the Clara loop before the lifts open.  Call if you want to join me
Nice Mike! I saw some tracks exiting Central this morning under the upper tow, yours? I ran into Becky and skied some laps in the Upper Basin, very nice. See you tomorrow?
I did quandary in April with my first ever BC Trip. Buddy got altitude at 12k, we camped there and just hung out right at tree line, that night it dumped 12 inches of snow with 80+ mph wind. Thank god we dug a huge pit and felt almost no wind the entire night.

When we went back into town, they said houses were shaking.
Sounds slightly better than skiing in the rain in the PNW - I think.  ;)
Those are some fantastic photos!!
Thank you for the welcome. I’ve gone to Turns All Year for several years now for condition reports and ideas for trips. I will try and do my part by entering helpful reports when time allows.

Thanks,
Warren
We laughed after reading this - the photographic evolution is great.  I'm going to laugh about this trip for a while.

Thanks for posting your first TR.  All my old telemark friends have made the switch to randonee, well most of them.  ;)

Yeah, Regine won't.  She now mostly parallel skis on her tele gear and skis lift-served on alpine gear.
Nice ski form, I too am almost always behind the lens.
Welcome to TAY, Warren.
And thanks for the report.
Nice pictures Pete. I'd forgotten what powdery conditions look like
WOW, powder and sunshine. Nice terrain, Pete.

Snow seems to have returned just in time for the departure of the in-laws... nice.
Looks fantastic when compared to the skiing I have been doing, thanks for the pictures.
LOL. I don't know guys, I think the phrase, "Never follow a hummel," was introduced when I was the leader of one misadventure or another. Although, I do have a soft place for the opposite sentiment. It's one I could get used too.

My lesson was to always follow a Hummel and never a local or even a collection of locals.

Agreed. Make that 4 for me.

Looked like a fun bash Ryan. Good on ya. ;)
Great BDay gathering with friends.  Lesson 1 and 2 jogged a few memories.  Plus once we experienced lesson #3 - someone in our group realized as we were experiencing lesson #2 in the dark that they have a GPS buried in their pack.  ;)
Even with the lessons, it was a good adventure and a great time out. Thanks for the write up.

It's like a bizarre alter-universe! Surprised the lines stayed up so long!  Met Anne the Fitness Machine (from Seattle) the day before and put in about 6 of the lines in the photo before working the 'front face' a bit.  Way to keep 'em tight everyone!

nice work Zap!!!!!!
I saw what is left of your turns in today's overcast weather.  I even snapped a pic for good measure, but it's not worth sharing.  Yours are so much better!

Lar, What about the instructions about how to recover your happy hour drink when spilled?

So Larry's in Blue Man Group?  Cool!

Go Sara!  Seeing those gorgeous, nested tracks at Summit West is a rare sight.  It's great that you two chose a perfect day to be there.  This has motivated me to create a profile and learn how to post a message.  I have lurked TAY for years, but never posted.  Now is as good a time as ever.

Love it -- great inspiration for your first post :)

Nice ! I noticed they weren't open on wed as i was leaving. I was shocked being holidays and all?? Way to keep the powder Zap.
Love all the little systems, as usual, Larry.  Thanks for the post.

can I come next year :-)? Sounds like alot of fun
Sorry I missed that trip with you Rob although by the sounds of the date a good time was had.
Heck yah, I've NEVER seen summit like that, well...  ever.    Glad you had fun!
Glad you came out of that smiling.
Get it while it's good. Easy access and hero 4-5" fluff on a very firm base. West is closed until Monday. The temps today were low enough to preserve the powder. I just have to post the first TAY photo of my daughter who, as Zap says, is being groomed as the trail breaking engine of the future.

Forgive my ignorance... Where is Da Slot?

Also known as the "The Slot Couloir" off of the northwest ridge of Snoqualmie Mountain.

Martin Volken describes the route in his book.
