Silas I have to agree with you,I went up Hyack using the cat track and I would describe the ski down the face teeth chattering pow.
Heh -- thanks Seatown -- I had it in my head that his blog was in his profile, but I think I stumbled onto it elsewhere.
since Marcus only teased and Forest is most likely out climbing or skiing something beyond titillating, his blog complete with plenty O' stoke, can be found here

And for those of you who have never had the benefit of a FMcB guided excursion, two words; DO IT!  IMO there's nothing more exhilarating and rewarding then pushing yourself past your normal comfort zone and realizing the full potential of the radtastic terrain here in ou...
Mike doesn't quite give the different species of snows encountered justice. We skied rock snow, fallen-log snow, bucking frush, skin-globbing glop, sytrofoam, wind crust, powder, corn, death cookies, deep glop, grunge on crust, corn on crust, and zipper crust. If you hated one form of snow, you only had to wait 500 vertical feet for a new form of misery. Which made it a fabulous day of Cascadian skiing. We also found salmon spawning well above timberline in the headwaters of Cashmere Mounta...
A wonderful route, too bad the skiing was not better.
Correct.  We quit at the first creek bridge pretty high up (I didn't pay attention to the marker) because of black ice - continuous snow one more switchback up - and snomo groomed thereafter so best not to drive even though it's doable to the TH with high clearance and chains.
I saw tracks coming out of this a few years ago when touring in the area.  I've always wanted to go back and ski it but never made the trip..
That video makes it clear.  I was under the impression that you said north, but meant northeast, thus my Lundin question.  Thanks for sharing.  Will check it out next time I'm back there.
Great report Forest -- Snoqualmie holds plenty of secret spots, it seems.

I spent some time reading the last few entries on your blog, too -- you've been busy!  Great stuff, I love reading your reflections on these trips.
Forest,  intriguing photograph!    It's just begging the question, do you have more photographs?  :P    Armchair enjoyment, you know.
Awesome, it's a fun area back there!  The problem is there's always further...  :D
Nice work getting out to new stuff Doug -- there's a ton of good terrain back there.

That pooch looks fierce :)
Looks like a fun line. I've looked up it while touring back up. Seems like it would be difficult to get to the entrance - trouble? Mt Snoqualmie has so much good skiing...
Looks like a nice line. How did you exit? the same as the slot? That video did not show the lower part of the mountain.
Skiied there a couple times last week. It was good, then bad. I don't think there's been any new since it was bad.
I think that was the couloir Eric Wehrly (Hedonaut) and I attempted to ski maybe 5 or 6 years ago. We didn't make it all the way because Eric triggered a slab near the top and was bairly able to squirm out before it ripped the length of the coulie.
There's a picture of that Coulie and that view of Mt Snoqualmie and theCrooked, Slot etc hanging up in the Alpental Lodge, by the stairs going up to the bar.

edit: Just looked at the name and date on the video, it was taken by my buddy Ben.  I flew with him a few days later to get some stills but there was low clouds/fog covering the slopes below ~5K.

Ryan, I'm always happy to provide an excuse. ;)

Assuming CD route, how far could you drive? Thanks.
forgot to add that Snoqualmie is rad. what a beautiful mountain!
nice one Forest.

Great video too. Now I have no excuses the next time I get lost
Gorp--

Yep, that's the line, just looker's right of the north trough, and left of the Crooked. That's a nice aerial view of Snoqualmie--thanks!
Neat.  Sounds like this is the chute shown in this aerial video, looker's right of the obvious wall. Nice view of the east peak descent, Crooked, Slot, and Snot as well.
Snoqualmie Mt. Flyover Video
I remember skiing off the east peak a few years ago and running into a couple of PGS folks looking for an entrance to this...
Is this the chute dropping north from the top of the "Lundin Couloir", or were you closer to the Crooked?  If so, I've always wanted to check that out.  Seems like it might take a rap to get in there?

Those are some big smiles for such marginal skiing!

Makes the good days seem even better, right?

I suppose it would be full disclosure to say that those smiles were before the skiing happened, but the good attitude helped make the most of the day, for sure.

can they be reloaded?
Thanks for the latest from the Duffey area.

Your not a local? what is your local?

Nice to see some reports coming from the Olympics!

Mack is close to achieving "local" status. His final exam will be setting a skin track from the bottom of some obscure creek bottom back to the ridge line which Mr. Downing will approve. No easy task.  ;)

It was a good day, lots of people...
Nice Guys,
Great pictures Brian, will you give me a photography lesson?  ;) Or maybe it's the talented skiers you're shooting that make the pictures  ???
The first picture of Sam clearly shows the challenges of the day.
I'll be at Baker this coming weekend, hopefully our tracks will cross.  :D

the mountain loop highway is plowed and open at least to the turnoff for Vesper, just past the Mt. Dickerman TH parking lot (with open outhouses!). No part of the road up to Vesper/Headlee Pass TH was plowed and had 12-30 inches on it. A jacked up truck tried driving up it and only made it to the bridge/culvert, less than 1/4 mile in. Having the sled saves you about 2 miles of road and 500 ft or so (don't quote me on this, but that is what it felt like to me).
All set Brian -- you can Modify your post if you like, but I like having both of your "takes" on the day anyway.  Up to you -- thanks for the report(s)!

Looks like first tracks in Stoneman? Does Sam need goggles? Had any of the big faces above the Stoneman runout slid?

Yes.  Yes (must be an East coast thing...or his goggles were fogged up).  No.
Hey Marcus, great idea. Maybe just merge the pics, given that my bro sat in the front row of his AP Creative English classes in high school.
Very nice :)

Road is going to be tough to drive for the remainder of the Winter. We used a sled to get to the TH.

Can you clarify how much snow is on the mountain loop? I would guess only on the log-road after the turnoff before barlow pass? We started from there just fine a month ago, and things seem to have been a little too warm for snow to close mountain...
Great first TRs to both of you -- Brian, I can merge yours into this one, since you've got some nice pics to go with it.
Hey bro, funny - you and I posted a TR at the same time...  I like your description better!  Good times that day - sucks to be at work now.
First TR and first time on Chair's north slope.  My brother Eric and I left the upper Alpental lot at about 8:00 am.  It was already getting crowded with others eyeing their own objectives.  Had really nice skin up into the Chair Peak basin, met a nice guy from Redmond on the way up.  We elected to ascend the second/furthermost notch to gain the ridge.  Candidly; really glad my bro lead this, as I got a bit nervous during the final10-15 feet.  The prospect of l...
Good show!  Great use of a near full moon.  The area has been on my agenda for ages.  Fun!
Thanks for the report - looks like a good day even if the snow wasn't soft!  Are you guys parking in the Meadows HRM lot to access Newton - or is there a better place to start?  And do you use the bridge in the runout from Heather Canyon to get across Clark Creek or is there somewhere lower to cross?  I've been meaning to check it out during Winter, but have never headed up there.
No snowblades.

Nice work getting in there -- that ski down Headlee is great.
Awesome.. Vesper in Pow!!

I see all modes of downhill transport where in attendance.

Your not a local? what is your local?

Nice to see some reports coming from the Olympics!
I saw your tracks in Stoneman when I left the lodge Sunday afternoon at 3 or so and I was more than just a little bit jealous.
ha.. i had it Kath!

I'm really not a very good photographer, or even photo editor for that matter. Don't ask me to take a picture of a moving object.  Mostly just take pictures for my own beta, and scrap e-booking.

Thanks for the pow on Saturday, but you can keep your breakable crust!
Yeah, I saw it Sunday; and we, too, had better skiing than Saturday; managed to find some super powder.
We took a relaxed trip up to Guye saddle. Few inches of soft/heavy snow atop the warm crust. Dug a pit in a clearing near the ridge, rather bomber. Q2 shear about 18" down atop a crust at ~CT70 (many jumps with a boot). 2-4' down seems to be full of wet and rounding facets.

Fun ski out on heavy snow. Commonwealth luge run is in fun shape; mind the holes.

Warm temps meant drippy trees; expect a treedrip crust.
