Kept going up thinking we were going to get above the rain crust into cold pow goodness any minute. We finally did. At 8200 feet. Right above that, the winds were more than one could bear going up with a shell over a soft shell and two hats. Below that, 3 inches over bombproof crust. Sparse beauty to all that flagging off the Roman Wall in bright January sun with no one around. If you must ski this week, go very high and very flat. Sulphide would probably ski good before it crusts, but man it's a long way to anything good.
Assuming CD route, how far could you drive? Thanks.
Correct. We quit at the first creek bridge pretty high up (I didn't pay attention to the marker) because of black ice - continuous snow one more switchback up - and snomo groomed thereafter so best not to drive even though it's doable to the TH with high clearance and chains.
