Fun day as usual. Thanks for making me take the day off work!
Stellar day, love the pass when it's sunny.  I was thinking about that tour just a few days ago!

...finally enjoying a headlamp-lit ski (darn that coffee) of the Bryant E couloir, which still held deep powder with few tracks.

ha!  and we thought we were the last ones down...  in semi-darkness, foregoing the headlamp for braille...  snow soft enough to get away with it.
Judging by the 'Roosevelt tracks' pic glow, it was a little d...
thank you all for the comments -

it's not too difficult taking good pictures on a day like that, it feels automatic like the legs moving forward, more sensation than thought -
what an amazing playground we have in our our very own backyards, I am so grateful everytime I'm out there

Yes, stunning photos.  Agreed on the penultimate one.  Also particularly like #3--what a world we live in.

Also got out that day in the Snoq area; as you noted, the weather can make a person sick.  Now am motivated to see if my camera got anything useful...if so, tr coming.
Superb photos, what a feast for the eyes.
Great TR.  Love the photo of the summit with descent tracks!
Great photos as usual Stefan!
Good to meet you on Saturday Kenji (Emily and I were the two tele skiers that met your group above Wildcat Lake).  Soft powder, scenic tour, fun day!
Yeah, when they tweeted the noon opening we bailed and decided to do a ski patrol day on MTTA; had to backpack my skis in a ways--and then found my new speed radicals had been mounted by the shop to fit some midget's feet, not mine; no way could the work; so back down with skis on pack. Oh well. Remount scheduled for Thurs.

Oh, BTW, we hit some pretty good snow on geezer ridge today :-).
This is great Lowell!

I've been auditing courses at the U just for the fun of it, and I was thinking of skiing to class... but I wondered about what to do with my skis once I got there. Where do I put my skis when I'm at the Suzzallo Library, or at the Parnasus? Where do I put them during a lecture? Up against the wall like people do with their skateboards?  Why are there no lockable ski racks on campus??

Good to hear that you had a good day and good to run into you in Maple Falls.  Our lap of Table turned out to be adventurous and fun as well. :)
Same to you Jason. Good to here you had a good day as well. See you next time!
You're ruining my street cred.

Here's a few shots of Amar in his element.  Nisqually glacier/icefall sets the backdrop & debris flow adds extra texture.
Nice! So much fun terrain up there, and I see you made the better route choice for your second run.
very nice! I can see why you hang out here often. Lots of potential

Thanks,
Randy (aka Zaskar)
great write up Ryan.

Warm coffee with 3 smiling friends sounds like a great time to me.

Haha!

Ryan, that's just the side view of the work bench....! I like playing 'I spy' too. olives and pickles.

Thanks for the compliment John.

I'm really middle of the pack somewhere. Just a lot of time to spare. I do get my share of bail days though.
Stiff is right!  The trail breaking was arduous and the visibility was marginal, but it was cool to be only one of three cars in the parking lot.  Met up with TAYers Katrina and Tyler shortly after leaving the parking lot, mostly ran laps on Mazama.  A few uninspiring photos for posterity:

SeaShe and Zaskar, you are probably right! Nothing feels as good as a nice nap in a warm sleeping bag after our early morning ski. Our skin track up the frontside was a bit unorthodox, but we had a plan as they say. I think it's worth going back to Jolly on a nice day, just for th...
Thanks for the report.  Nice day for sure.
I would second that about the Old Schoolhouse Pub.  Great food and beer (Ruud Awakening IPA).  And the service is good too.

Nice report!
Here are a few pics of the trip.
Jim chowing before the glopfest.
Really late response, I know... been soaking up sun in San Fran for the past month and don't know what snow looks like anymore.

Nice tour gentlemen.  Glad to see you all have been getting some. Keep the stoke alive!

Scott's a Detroit boy.  That's hydraulic fluid mixed with Gatorade powder.
great report, ryan. thanks for sharing. sounds like it was a good adventure with a good group of folks.
Really enjoyed that video guys.  Gotta get me some RED pants  ;D
Thanks man, but nothing I've done compares to that burly line you did on Cooper Spur last year.....
thank you stoudema! means alot comin from you...  mr. all things splitboard oregon!
Ice caves.  Sigh.  My parents neglected me.  I never got to see them.
Awsome sunrise.

<< The route follows Rim Drive, the road around the lake, making the circumnavigation 31 miles long. Most people take 3 days to do the trip. Cross-country ski racers complete the route in under 8 hours.>>

A few yrs ago, I was all set to take two days, but as I stopped to get my permit, annother party mentioned skiing it in one go - by the light of the full moon.  Brilliant!
I dumped lots of gear and then chased after them.  I did b...

thanks for the nice skin track. Wanted to say good morning too you both but...I thought I heard snoring ;-). Nice view

Knowing Larry and Jane, Zaskar, unless you went through pre-dawn then that probably was their equivalent of an afternoon nap!  I am most certain they would have started upslope with headlamps.  At least that has been protocol on many an enjoyable tr...
We saw your group heading up Roosevelt while doing the Chair peak circumnav on Friday. We started out as a group of 5 headed for Kaleetan, but I had to bail due to a lack of time available. 3 of the group topped out on Kaleetan (Kudos), While 2 of us continued around the mountain. Superb day of trail breaking and powder slashin. It was incredibly difficult to pass up all the perfect untouched lines as we circled the hill.
thanks for the nice skin track. Wanted to say good morning too you both but...I thought I heard snoring ;-). Nice view
Having attempted this route a couple years ago on breakable crust we thought we'd try again Saturday January 28.  Friday night we camped in the snow park lot then followed your tracks up to the top of the clear cut on Saturday.  We admired your tent platform on the way up.  Our goal was Jolly Mountain but weather deteriorated (rain) at around 1:30.  Jolly was in sight but in the clouds so we turned around before the final ridge and climb.  The ski conditions were va...
Always great reading your words, Ryan.
Sounds like a real banger of a trip, good job all :)

John, Scott and I are as mortal as it gets. Or at least I am. I don't know where Scott gets his unlimited supply of energy. If we ever hook up for a tour in the near future, be prepared to go real slow.

Yes, those indeed are the NW chutes of Cannon. Before the clouds descended, you would have seen them completely scoured by the wind.
Well, early bird gets the worm... we were a couple hours behind and a touch surprised to see your tracks when we hit the notch.  After eating lunch at the base of the Twins, we noted a bit of drizzle, and decided it was time to gtfo before it all went cement like and bailed over the ridge into Commonwealth and out from there. Guess if we want fresh tracks next time, we'll either have to get up at 0330 or slog all the way to Chikamin :)
Awesome Lar, to get another complete, quality, ridge to river ski for the two of you.  No Sac crud zone!
Good to see the ole' Sasse Clinic TR again.
John
Oh!  Oops, sorry Eric for wrongfully molesting your boots.  "Boots" was what was supposed to go after the "..."  Although your boots like pretty nice too.
Great write up on the day Ryan and thanks for putting the tour together!  That coffee we shared it the hole Mark dug sure was good
As strong and skilled as you both are, it is comforting to us mortals that you, too, are forced to bail once in a while!  Looking forward to the next inspired TR, of course.  Are those the northwest face Cannon gullies in the photo?

Looks like Eric got some fancy skis to match his fancy...hot... curvy....

wrong Eric. E_$ chose to ski powder in sunshine on friday for some reason.

No shenanigans at all Pete. We almost got suckered into working our way down the west side, but vigilance won out and we had a relatively easy time.

Very filled in Jeff. I like the bike ide...
Funny Dave B. If Eric wasn't so damn hardcore and fit he might have some curves. I believe those are DPS skis. Hmmm wonder who set him up on those.  ;) I think our posse should all have a pair. Amar, one more pair to add to your quiver.
I am amused.  :)  And, as usual, love the little tricks, thanks Larry.  That is one pretty tent platform.
