NIce meeting u guys, fun day!rock is worth
the view alone, the cold north facing pow
was a major bonus!
glad you got some sunshine! my party was kicking itself for staying down low after we heard from someone (maybe you? are you switching from Tele to AT?) in the parking lot that there was sunshine up there... we were having the same doubts as Amar, but also doubts about our doubts... oh the joys of group decision making  ::) we still had a nice time lapping golden gates on the few inches of fresh over slush, which skied surprisingly well, especially above 6K'.

As for Amar, th...
VERY COOL...WHERE IS THAT LOCATED?..ISOLATED IN OREGON
I was up there on Saturday too, and I was surprised and grateful that there was sunshine up high.

How can you tell the elevation of the cloud tops by looking at the forecast?
we took the same route on the private road through the private development.  that seems like the most viable option. gotta cross the river at some point, regardless...
Way to go Proski & Guide!  Would have been tricky without you guys swooping in...
Thanks for the report. I found that scoured ridge in the same condition a year or so back. I wonder if it stays that way or if when the road is clear enough to access the trailhead there likely isn't enough snow to fill in that side of the mtn? It looks like you had good visibility. This is an area I would like to explore more of.
Hey jimmyclimbs, long time no see.  Yeah, let's talk!

I'm just curious, since you don't go there regularly, how did you pick this one day for a solo winter trip to Muir? Did you have some idea that it would be clear up there? Or were you just going up to take a look, come what may? The forecast gave no hint of clear skies, although it did predict the light wind...

Thanks for the TR.  Looks like a good first adventure in the Olympics.
Did you get to the top of Buckhorn?

Yeah, we skinned & hiked up to the summit on Sunday. The second photo is taken on Sat heading up for some quick turns in the small N facing bowl above camp.

East side of Baker Lake, N. Cascades. Get some. :).
WOW--looks great--where is this area located?  Isolated--live in Oregon..
Ethan, is this you? As I remember Double E is your handle here. Nice work, I was over on Maza ridge in the clouds and fog and wondering if I should have gone higher. Now I know that I should have cause I would have run into you. Sorry I didn't. Hope you're well. I'm ripping weekly. You should give me a shout and lets ride.

Strong work and nice video!

Some of those confusing tracks were ours from Saturday - we skied those closer couloirs on Crook Mtn.

Any advice on the best way through the Tall Timbers/private development (behind TT) complex?  The Twin Lakes trail seems out of the way.  We went up the private road immediately before (downstream) the bridge just before the TT lot and through the housing development but that means the river needs to forded at least one more time.  Did you just...

Trail: Snow cover on trail patchy to around 3800ft, skin-able beyond and ski-able down to about 4600ft. The trail section on the densely treed steeper south facing slope held very little snow. First slide path at 5300ft had many bare spots.

Adversity does build character so I'm told.  Great job guys!
Monday feb 13th above pan point was very clear till around 2 . Thought sure I'd see Amar beelineing it up.  So much so that I kept looking behind my back on the way to the Base of Pan Point.
Wow, thanks for the report, that looks nice! Really surprising that it was so sunny above the clouds. Even though I go there all the time, I'm kicking myself now for missing this day -- always love the sunny days above a sea of clouds. But just did not see it coming in the forecasts or the UW model, maybe I didn't look carefully enough.

I'm just curious, since you don't go there regularly, how did you pick this one day for a solo winter trip to Muir? Did you have s...
Awesome!  I've been wanting to try that but haven't had the courage to dare the approach.  When were you able to start skinning?  From the trailhead?

Awesome Sam.

I agree, you should have taken the big gun for them views.

Was the boarder greg?

The border was a guy named Dave.

jcocci: that connector looks like it fills in late and melts out early. There was just enough snow to get through when I was there, but i wouldn't count on it holding out too late into the season.
Thanks for the report. It does look a little thin on cover near the ridge top!
Nice work. That is a big day. Have wanted to do the South Twin via the way you did, but wash;t sure about connecting them that way either. Glad it worked out for you.
Very nice! Thanks for coming over from Victoria to our neck of the woods.
My bad, Kenji, you haven't qualified yet to join the growing "old geezers club;" but it won't be long 8).
I don't understand telemark... jokes. ;-)
Thanks for the TR.  Looks like a good first adventure in the Olympics.
Did you get to the top of Buckhorn?
OMG, am I a member of "old geezers"? :'(  Hope Rich meant I was an honorary member.

It was really nice to explore the 3.5 peak neighborhood.
Marcus, I suppose that slight should be updated to:
"Tsk,tsk, 75mm telemark norm-ers."

(It's a telemark joke. Don't even try to understand.)  8)
Just watched the video...  nice work making that binding remotely "skiable".

I like the *headshake*... "telemarkers"...
I like the last 3 minutes of your movie - suffer fest

Hey, I was thinking of skiing in the  Stuart range over the next few days but that slide you set off is kind of unnerving!  Its hard to tell from the photos with the lighting, any more info on it?  (length, width, depth, weak layer, bed surface, steepness etc?)

I'll do my best: aspect was north facing, in the shade, about 40 degree pitch. Crown was obviou...

Nice lookin day John and Kyle.

I agree to. You should come ski heather ridge with me for a day or two to balance things out.

Heather Ridge my arse! Weren't you speed splitting on Shuksan earlier last week?
Nice lookin day John and Kyle.

Nice work gorp and crew, and sol!

Funny, I was wondering how that would have road this weekend.

Thanks for the report!
There's only one "safe" route off the northerly slopes of Windy Knob(Diamond Head East?) You likely missed it by a few yards if you got cliffed out. The NNE face is very steep and the gully below seems to always be filled with copious avalanche debris.
Glad you and Yak-Nam are more or less OK! Props to Martin and the SMR crew as well.

Heal quickly, Ari.
Might have seen you going up the Windy Gully just as I was skiing onto Diamond Head's NE face from the county line route.  The 2nd chute is not obvious from the plateau as there are some trees to ski through first.

Check out Wenatchee Outdoors guide book for backcountry skiing for the Diamond Head East Peak route.  They've got a good map of the whole Tronsen basin.      http://www.justgetout.net/Wenatchee/

It is skiable, if you're skiing super hero Dan Helmstadter.

I was kidding you know.
uh oh! bring on the crowds!
Fascinating to watch the Heli extraction in such swift action. I only caught a couple photos from the ridge. Thanks for sharing that Martin and thanks for your assistance!!
Oh yeah, the Stuart Glacier Couloir. It is skiable, if you're skiing super hero Dan Helmstadter. Check out his video from a couple years ago:

I was just happy to have been able to receive your text and get the word to Fergie and others on SPART to initiate the rescue. Knowing how long the process takes for rescuers to respond I was glad 3 of us were sent as a hasty team in quick fashion.

We were unaware SMR was in the vicinity training until part way up the Phantom when we were alerted on radio. What luck to have them already placed right where they were needed.

I was concerned it would be a tough and long extric...
John, I'm not sure I want to encourage this, but that second photo makes it look like you could ski from the West Ridge notch.  Must be an illusion.
Oh my.  Glad everyone is ok and hope you all recover fast.  Great to have the help nearby.
Speedy recovery, Akarchin. You were exceptionally lucky to have Martin around: he would have hauled you to safety even if the chopper had been unable to lift you.  N
Was up on the standard Stump tour late afternoon the 12th. The snow that has exposure to the sun in the small trees and clearcuts of a typical Stump run, I would not have characterized as mank. At least not at that point of the day on Sunday. It was unexpectedly springlike snow: wettish, big grains. Judged by the measure of spring snow it was decent. Usually it wasn't particularly bottomless. In the best sections, there was enough of a partway down but dissolving crust to keep soft stuff on...
Nice job guys!

Thanks for the bootpack, we rode it on Tuesday the 7th. I think we were the 3rd party that week.

Impressive to shovel-ski that last couloir! Yikes.

Our crux for the trip was figuring out which tracks to follow to the couloir, as they seemed to go all over the valley...

Beautiful zone, amazing line, can't wait to do it again.
wow.  this is a scary story ari, and i'm glad both you and yak-nam are ok.  thanks for sharing it.  lots of positive vibes to you for a speedy recovery.
