Looking great up there. I like the tunes.

Yeah boys!!

looks fun to me.

Glad you guys didn't try role reversal again. Kyle would have had to air his way out of that one.

Thanks Scott!  At least now I'll quit bugging you to ski this one, eh?
Group of 4 must have been a bit later.  Chute was starting to refreeze into nasty by the time I got there...I too bumped up on the windlip to escape the chunder, following your tracks, but then when they peeled over the blind rollover skiers right I lost faith and bailed over the windlip left and made the best of the rest by hugging right under the cliff.  Remeeting yours (and others that I don't know where they came from) tracks below the cliffs, I then had life-affirming hero tu...
I was solo but skied past a group of three just above the chute and a group of two at the chute entrance, probably a little before one.  I traversed hard right once into the main chute cause there was some debris.  Once I was on top of the wind lip I skied fall line to the glacier.  Then skied down the middle of the glacier.  Last Sunday I tried the same thing but had to skin back to paradise cause the light was so flat I couldn't tell what was up or down.  It is on...
Looks like you guys got it, nice work! Wish I didn't have class on friday.
Thanks for the comments! i'm almost always too lazy to stop & take pics/film, but this was fun putting together

Hey Sam, yeah it was the top choke that was icy... Adam might have some spicy footage... think Glen Plake, Couloir Poubelle  1988 ;) We did have a look down the headwall, but the snow didn't look very inviting.
Nice send Ed and crew!
cool video too, hard to capture steep skiing experience but you did
I think I followed your tracks!  Were you by chance the party of 4 I watched from Pebble Creek?  If so what was your descent line to the glacier? I couldn't figure that part out.  We were some of the last off the mountain, down on the glacier by 5:30 right as the sun became occluded and the light went flatter....making the huge white valley and featureless terrain weirdly disorienting.  After the toe the mank was sticky, as was expected for such a late descent.

It was a first for...
The name alone would be worth the effort. Chumstick..

Nice Randy - I'm sorry I missed this fun tour - one of my favorites - and the chance to ski with you and the pooch again!  Catch you soon - Jim
Jealous... I can't watch the video!

Yeah boys!!

looks fun to me.

Glad you guys didn't try role reversal again. Kyle would have had to air his way out of that one.

yeah man!

Stellar day! I've spent plenty quality time napping on Pea gravel ridge. At least this time I didn't get secon degree burns on my lips.

Ben leading the way...

having fun...

Ouch, looks knarly.
Nice photo of Kyle in front Stuart's Northside.
That first picture is really nice.
There have been quite a few good days over the past month and a half near Tahoe. From Carson Pass north is in good shape now, and skiing will be good for a while longer... its the approaches that will melt quickly. I've also heard that approaches in the Eastern Sierra (ie - south of Bridgeport) are heinous. Photo evidence of good days.
Thanks Leland. Most of the objective danger you can't see until you're right above it. It's a fun line. In better snow it would be outstanding.
Thanks for the post, Andy.  Fine tour, and fun to link up with some of the fellas.
As Dave said, it was about as good as could be top to bottom!  Some debris chickenheads up high, but most were smashable.  Perfect cruising most of the way down in variable light.  A few one-minute whiteouts were interesting.  There is very deep coverage until near the end; big roll-y snow runnels are forming down low.

The snow season's well into spring,
So the skiers went for a Muir...
Nice John. It doesn't look as exposed to the skiers left as I thought.
Great day on the mountain.  Glad that the chute and lower glacier skied well. Our group decided to do the basic Muir Snowfield.  Skiing was better than expected, the weather mostly sunny and surprisingly calm, and the views spectacular, of course. I was looking at enviously at your tracks. Also scoping tracks of a group skiing the Cowlitz below Muir.  Will have to look at that route -- assume that you head back toward the Paradise below Anvil?
Sorry I missed out, I've been couch bound with the flu. Did you climb the hump to the SE too? The south facing run of it's summit it nice. Last may Mike and I walked on dirt to the spot where your summit pic is and put skis on there.
Looks like a rad day on the mountain!
A few more photos...

The top of the couloir.

The small cliff band.  If you look closely, you can barely see Kyle standing down at the bottom.

A look back.

8 Mile Rd. is melting out quickly.  Expect to walk...
9K and a snooze in the sunshine. That's a top day.
Nice shot of Million Dollar Couloir. I should have skied that line when I was there last...
Keep up  the southern reporting, all mtn., I've done Lassen & other trips partly from your posts.  Does this mean good snow at Crater Lake too?
The video is supurb!  One of the best local videos I can recall.  Thanks a ton guys!
What elevation did you park at?

Looks like you turned around where I did this season.  Thanks for the report.

Cheers.
I'm surprised noone replied yet!  What should have been done differently?  Head down earlier?  Another descent route?  Did you do any snow tests?  Or was it just time of day and season?  Thanks for the TR-good warning for this snow -laden spring.
Yes!  Friday 13th - no wind, blue ski, 55 degrees at top of Hyak lift.  Only a handful of folks skinning & doing laps front and back.  Even with warm temperatures the snow stayed firm, with just a spiff of corn on top to smooth out the old rain and sun dimples.  Great spring skiing!

No, it's not like surfing in Hawaii. At all. Waves at a crowded break with aggro locals are a limited resource. Pow in the Cascades is an unlimited resource. There is more than enough room for gaper bloggers and cagey locals to get some. Can you imagine someone getting punched in the face for dropping in? Uh... not gonna happen.

They're doing that @ Central this Saturday and for the first time ever it's open to skiers, too. I expect to see some of you free-heelers out there showing us one-plankers how it's done.

While the original Holy Oly is dead, at least Hyak isn't destroyed. "Tour" on!

Thanks for posting Ed! Great trip. Wish the current one was going as well!
Cool. :) Personally, I vastly prefer the 3rd person footage to GoPro footage, nice to see a video with so much 3rd person.
fantastic video.  Thanks for posting it.
Looks like a great trip, Nice video too!
Have they raped the slopes yet in preparation for Holy Oly?
Great video of an amazing day!!

We were the first party down the NW couloir Saturday (thankfully.)  On the way up the White Salmon I was wondering if that upper ice step was skiable - it looked pretty shiny. I'm glad you guys were able to do it without downclimbing. Nice work taking advantage of the perfect conditions!
So sick! Thanks for sharing/inspiring. I was hoping for some gopro footage through the crux part off the hanging glacier.
String - Love that first picture from gold ck. Looks a little windy up high ;)
That's the ticket!!!
- As others have posted the video is SWEET - Thanks for taking the time to make something special

Nice day up there huh?
Very, very nice.  I hope to do that some day :)

Thanks for the inspiration.
Nice guys! looks like the cracks were a lot more filled in than mid-march. Was it the upper choke that was icy? Glad those lovely lines aren't so lonely anymore.
Thank you for producing a video that isn't entirely POV...brilliant and nicely done!
