Some video from the day...

this may be obvious, but thielsen is well worth returning to on a corn day. another one to add to your list is mt. washington. it's not very big compared to most of the other stuff on your list, but it has some really fun skiing in the west bowl or you drop in on the NE side if you want something a little steeper and narrower.
Very awesome. It is moments like these that make me wish we had one of those silly "band playing" emoticons here  :D.

CW used to be that after a stroke, you were pretty much hosed on whatever you'd lost w/in a few days. It is great to see that science is discovering the reality of neuroplasticity, meaning that if you work really really hard you can build new neural pathways and re-learn many of those lost abilities. And science also says that aerobic exercise incre...
Way to get after it Kristina!
There is nothing like a sunny day in the mountains for inspiration and motivation.  Way to go Zap & Jill.
Great TR.  I have eyeballed that point myself each time I am back there.  Chair Peak rocks!
Zap so great to see you got back after it ! WOW, WOHO you go guy !!!!!!!!!!!
I agree, Mr. Wehrly is the head-turner of the backcountry community.  8)
Thats way cool, thanks for sharing!
My friend took the photo just before we got above the tree line, once we hit tree line it clouded over.

Nice!.  what elevation were you able to start skinning up instead of hiking up?  how long did the trip take?

No one brought an altimeter, but we hit snow probably around 2,700 feet.  WE started to skin may be 3,100 feet just before the first clearing if you have been up the Monogram / Lookout Peak trail.  We reached the west trending ridgeline where we...

Nice Tiroler hut. That is some fashionable mountain headgear.

I like the hat too!  I just purchased it, and was trying it out on this trip.  the purpose of the hat is for a climb of Mt Olympus we are planning this summer, but we are going to go all "retro" with canvas tents, and bed roles, knickers etc.  So, if anyone has some wool knickers...

well put, Josh, particularly the concluding sentence.
Did you snap that photo on your trip? Looking pretty good for mid April.
Thanks for the report and sorry the conditions weren't better!  That's the best photo yet I've seen of the SW Face - I've been scheming to head down that way and it's great to have some beta.  Welcome to Oregon!
Nice!  Thanks for posting.  Been eying that and yes, it's nice to have some pro on that ridge over to Melakwa Point if approached from the top (and possibly firmer snow I imagine).  Some interesting variations on west chair too - if you ever go back, let me know...

A spring tour in sun and warmth is like a time-release high.  Cool photos!
Way to stay ahead of the doctor forecast. You are our inspiration!
Excellent Zap and Jill! You look great in a helmet Zap. Good to see you as SnowBall.

I like the cheap plastic bag over the boots for packing technique too. You'd think it can't get wet inside a sideways boot but somehow it always does, huh?
Welcome back to the game! ;D
Well done! I made it all the way up to about 4800 ft last winter, and then broke my binding. I'm still bitter about the amount of vertical I hiked on frozen trail in ski boots.
Just back from a ski trip where I read the Ruby posts and it's ridiculous (IMHO) how everyone has kissed Amar's ass and not thought about Lowell's point of view.  What happened to skiing some wicked stuff and not posting it? I guess some folks need some validation and chest puffing! Sorry moderator (Marcus) if I've caused some trouble.  Some respect to Lowell, who's a super cool and knowledgable guy, should be given...IMHO.

Peace Out

Nice one man!

great solo style..love it!

Thanks Scott, took a page outta your book ;)  We should get out and make some non-solo turns this spring!
Nice solo work indeed.  Sometimes, you just gotta get after it
You're right - not your typical Summit West day indeed! The "Zap getting ready to ski.." smile made my week, month...year!  Back in the saddle, Zap.
Thanks for the great post and pics! I haven't been up there since July 5th last summer. I've been itching to get back up there.
Great job Zap, and great work Jill being a wonderful spouse.

Good to see you in your summer whites again!!!

Aren't we beyond distinguishing between snowboarders and skiers?  It has been nearly 50 years at this point.  Although I guess if you were to do the nooksack traverse on a snowboard it would probably look quite different - especially during times when you might be doing the snowboard shuffle.   :)  Killer line for both of you.

Well, since you bring it up, it...

Nice early diamond corn harvest.  Did you go in via Corrigan Lake?  No topo handy here at work, but how far from TH did you park -- seems like it must have been close to two miles, or did you just cut in and up pioneer gulch?.  Was the skinning continuous or patchy on the road approach?

On Forest road 2149 (which is 1249 on some maps?) I drove up to about 3900ft , w...

Awesome; wonderful news :)! Happy safe turns!

10%/week could yield some fine compounded returns at Timberline.
Thanks again for the ice old Rainier Silas and friends! Nothing better than a cold one after roasting in the chute. Hope to see y'all out in the hills
YEAH!  Awesome -- so glad you guys got up this weekend in the sun.  It was great to see you at Snowball too.
Woohoo!  Congrats Zap and Jill!
It was a nice day to be in the mountains, despite the long approach and exit.  Kenji's wide skis with a base pattern was the right ski for turning in the slop and the kick and glide on the rolling trail out.

Climbing the ridge above Coney Lake towards the summit.

Kenji climbing the first hill on the way out.
Thanks for the report and welcome to Oregon.

Or if you are interested in firsts, find an old 80s monoski and you can tick "first monoski descent" on all sorts of stuff. :P

Holy! wow. Can anyone confirm if that's the first decent of the North Face, West Route by a snowboarder? Skoog's site lists the first decent by skiers only 2 years ago.

First, impressive trip!

I would think for a snowboard first on Shuksan, you would have to take him down the NW xconnection, curtis ridge, or maybe do the nooksack traver...
