Looks like a great adventure. Nice job!
What a great adventure. I didn't know I wanted to do this before but I sure do now. Thanks for the wonderful write up.
Bravo!  This is so inspiring I can't stand it!  I'm sitting at work bouncing in my seat.  Your adventure is so great!  Wonderful!
Awesome awesome awesome!  This is on my wish list along with Overcoat which I tried to visit last fall but didn't quite make it.  Beautiful photo.
Good description, Skip! If we'd had more time/energy in the party I'd have liked to have also lapped some good looking stuff on the east side of Naches as well. Looked  like a few folks had done so, and it appeared to be a decent length line.

Good payoff:grunt ratio there for this time of year for sure (Silas seems to know how to optimize said ratio!  ;)), both in terms of turns as well as views and overall feeling of the terrain we skied through! Don - Jack(al) and I may h...
We approached via summer trail.  I don't think anyone goes up Grouse Creek post winter\early spring, but don't quote me on that!
Did you approach via the summer trail, or grouse creek? Looking to go for the traverse this weekend and would like to make a run up grouse creek if possible.

Did you approach via the summer trail? Or via Grouse creek? Thanks!

I don't know how conditions are on Leuthold, but I'd love to because it's been on my eye. it seemed like coverage was really good for this time of year, which might mean smaller cracks, but it's hard to say what's happening on the opposite side of the hill (I would guess that cooper spur is skiing really good right now though). if you hear any intel on leuthold, let me k...

Great to see you guys out there and on a sweet looking trip.  Cheers to the multiple celebrations all around... birthdays and mountain returns.  Looking forward to catching you guys for the next one.
Hehe, thanks for the phone call  :)

Great skiing with you and Carla last weekend, Ruth was a lot of fun!

I'll get to Shuksan one of these days...

A few pics from last sunday June 1st:

We had a great 3-5 inches corn with no invisible glue or pollen!
We had not skied there before, so did a recon circumnavagation of Naches peak and gained the ridgecrest via a straight forward ascent of the SE shoulder.
One run down the WSW ridge was awesome, it looked possible to continue lower than Tipsoo lakes to lower switchbacks on Hyway 410, not sure if t...
Looks like a beautiful area. Great trip!! Too bad the road is only on weekends now all summer. Glad you got after it!
Those were the good days. :D

I have fond memories of hiking to the top of Table with my dad circa 1994 and riding down to Bagley and snoeshoeing back to the parking lot and thinking it was a big day!  I remember tracks being pretty rare out there too.
Boy, you are reminding me of weekend winter powder trip trips back in the '90s when we'd go ski out toward Coleman Pinnacle and on our way back via Hermon Saddle, we'd see maybe just a few tracks on the face of Table above the lakes until getting over toward the blueberry chutes. And when "Secret Bowl" really did seem somewhat secret! (as if a very accessible north-facing bowl that's pretty obvious on a map, albeit with relatively short slopes, could stay secret for...
Great work. Nice to go when dirt walking is minimized.
Beautiful photos, esp the B&W one.  Makes me want to go there and go into Grand Park again.
It was fun last Sunday around back in on the south ridge of Yakima Peak, east facing slopes and bowls. Still lots of snow right from the road.
Thanks for all the nice comments  :) Glacier with skis should be still prime for a few more weeks!
Joyeux anniversaire Crystal!  From summit to trail :)
I really enjoy your photography
Great photos, inspiring trip. Happy Birthday!
I'm afraid your stoke is contagious.
read your exploit with envy wondering, of course, if that was a P-51.. ;D
Thanks for the tr--might have to get up there for a look.  Not walking ten or twelve miles for some steeps IS attractive.  Have any idea if Leotholds has an ugly trench? or anything about conditions?  I hit it a few years ago with just a very shallow ditch (nothing snear about...) and so had just a super/lovely ski.  Thing is I keep hearing that most years the trench is pretty deep...

Thanks again...
Man - so jealous. What an amazing TR. Congrats on the summit! I have hope that eventually I will have a non sufferfest and get back there with some success.
Nice day! Haven't been there for more than a decade...

Another option instead of climbing the snow gulley is the right skyline of rock. One of my ski partners would happily solo it  while I napped at my high point on a few outings, but my wife and I climbed it with him on belay on one trip (two ropes, three climbers style) but as we were almost to the top on the last pitch I spotted a pretty nasty looking thunderhead coming our way so we bailed and good thing too as soon en...
That's quite a first report!  Nice work.

We were also excited about this trip since this ski marked the final volcano in our most recent V5 objective: to ski all 5 major WA volcanoes in a season. St Helens (May 12), Glacier Peak (May 15-16), Baker (May 21), Adams (May 23).

Congrats!  Way to get on it during those 10 days or so in May.
These pics are very nice and that looks like a wonderful tour; I'd like to ski it some day.

Dan exhibited much better judgement than just dropping it blind from the top in September and October.

With respect to the best way to drop in blind, I think all of your suggestions are sound Lowell. Seems like everyone has their preferred method. But for those who might be loo...
Beautiful photos! The night shots kinda look like they have the glow of the northern lights
Good discussion on steep skiing protocol.
I have a protocol for pretty much every time I ski something that is out of bounds, (and sometimes in bounds).
It is almost instinctual now.
1. Is the snow going to move?- Most likely yes.
2. How much is going to move? Sluff? Slab?
3. What is my exit options and zone of safety? I like to have at least 2 exit strategies ( specially on exposed terrain).
4. If ice. Do I have the option to reascend? Or a safe exit?
5. Is t...
At the time that I was up there, I would have felt quite comfortable with taking a Subaru up the road.
Thanks for the wonderful pictures, I can't see those shots, but I keep trying.
There has been some discussion on these pages that, chasing TAY missis the point, or that it becomes obsessive. Well I hope to chalk up such a great collection of memories. Nicely done, and thanks for setting the bar just a notch higher!
Regarding the road: how bad are the ruts this year. . . , you think OK in Suby Outback?
We couldn't see the lot from our path.  Yes, I'm thinking about a trip via Grand Park!
Nice meeting you Tyler!
Fun weekend to take the skis for a walk.
I have been Touring up near Mt. Baker for the past three seasons, and have always looked at wanting to complete this route.  I often venture out to the Sholes Glacier and a little beyond in the Months of August and September. After seeing this trip report and how the conditions look, I'm hoping to find someone to do it with this Saturday. It does have everything I'm looking for in a Tour: steepness, endurance, high speed turns, air, and sense of accomplishment I'm sure for th...
Glad you had much better behaved skiers for your photos  ;)
Nice!  Thx for the report, I'm sure many TAYrs heading up that way this weekend ;D
Sweet pics Stefan!! And a great trip. Way to time the conditions.

With respect to the best way to drop in blind, I think all of your suggestions are sound Lowell. Seems like everyone has their preferred method. But for those who might be looking to this forum for guidance I suggest reading what Dan H did a few years ago:

"Once on the summit, I downclimbed the Park Headwall to the shrund at the base -- to scout out conditions, looking for ice etc... All clear! SICK!!!!!...

It looks like a minefield of crevasses....never mind the gaping bergschrunds.  Doesn't look appropriate for "skiers of all abilities"...unless they don't mind falling in.

I’ve only done the Watson once and did not ski the headwall so I didn’t have to wonder about it’s condition. However, I thought the lower half of the Park Glacier was the most...
