Great tour you guys, nice to hear you had good snow, that decent to the Twisp is one I have eyed before, looks like a dandy. I don't think you should throw away those holey socks away just yet, the sucking sound in your saving account might slow down, but it's not likely to stop for awhile.
Sounds like an interesting tour.  Congratulations on your newly earned discretionary income, our youngest one just graduated last Dec, and I'm now on a new pair!
You can park right on the side of the road at the trail or in the lot for Devil's Lake, which is off the road and will probably have people camping nearby by that time. It's a short walk to campsites on the lake, pretty much car camping. TH break-in risk in the area is pretty low in general.
Nice report, Will.
Bummer about the forgotten skins, but it sounds like you guys managed to make lemonade anyway! I've heard some stories about duct tape and tree limbs as stand-ins for skins. Not the best of options, of course....

Let's get out skiing soon!
Thanks for all the good vibes, everyone!

andreism, it was nice to meet you out there. Strong work on your part with the 1-day push. Thanks for telling us some goat trivia. Tristan was probably wishing he had goat toes while climbing to the summit without crampons.
Great report, thanks!!

I won't be down there next until early June--figure the snow pack will hold?

Also, since I've never seen the trailhead, how's the security for your car and possible breakins?  Is the parking right at the highway and visible, or is it back a bit and kinda dodgy?

Thanks!
Awesome trip! I was checking out that couloir, it looked sweet!
Nice write-up Andy! Thanks for sharing all the details including maps and directions. I also appreciate all your work on WenatcheeOutdoors and OkanogenOutdoors. Very inspiring!
Gorgeous. The pictures make me want to revisit.
My only shot at Snowking was an aborted attempt nearly half a lifetime ago.
I no longer remember what our plan was, but it was apparently a bad plan because there are still some PTSD images of being tangled up in green (slide alder).

We ended up camping in the basin below the glacier, next to a nice stream. Our exit was back out Easy Pass, the way we'd come.

Exiting via our route back to Easy Pass would save the big elevation hits going back up to the Kitling-Cub Col and the hump up out of Fisher Creek.  Not that brushy, so wouldn't be a big deal once the skis are off.
Nice Kam! Lots of fin des enseguidas para ti. Matandolo.
Great Photos!  Myself, and Steven were the two other climbers you saw while skiing back to your camp!  What a great peak!
Awesome work Kam! Loved the TR! Definitely putting this on the list!
I thought I might see you up there... but as it was I saw nobody, not even another car (and it's a long beautiful drive in and out). Just a lot of bear tracks, entertaining myself by guessing their weight by the depth of the imprint.

As for camping... happy until the middle of the night when it got five degrees shy of comfort. No bag but I thought I had packed a tarp and I was wishing I had. Early in the morning while packing up I found it all folded up (it's dark green) ben...
That's a spicier line than those photo's suggest!
Congratulations. I reckon you'd have been one happy camper that night!
Oof - 7 miles to snow! I almost headed up to Goat Rocks myself this weekend. Looks fun, but that hike would have put a damper on things. Nice view from your camp!
Nice catch, Amar! I often use Caltopo for creating .pdf map images for printing, but hadn't noticed the "check out the view" feature. That's a handy tool.

I also like to use aerial photos and see the relationship and shape of the peaks. Steph Abegg (often with the aerial help of John Scurlock) produces some of my favorite labeled shots, such as the one below. However, I still could have made the same mistake by studying that photo since the perspective from the p...
Awesome stuff Kam! Looks like that line is probably already gone!

.....and another trip added to the to-ski list.
Hi Guys,

Glad you had a good skiing time. That solo stranger (which you met) was me.

Goats tracks show their toes are flexible (extended), when goat wants to float/stop on snow.
Hey, wait a minute Mike - Sunday was Mothers' Day.  I'd say you both owe mom a big hug!

-Dave
Looks rad! Definitely gonna have to check it out sometime!
Nice first TR! Thanks for the conditions update. It's been an amazing spring to ski Adams given the unusually early road access to the trailhead.

Camp in the morning

Looking down from the Conrad-Meade col while the group rests.

Arriving at the top of the Conrad glacier, stoked for another corn run (our tracks in background).

Nice report and photos. That's Three Fingered Jack by the way in the last shot, as Mount Washington is almost completely hidden behind Middle Sister except for the long ridges visible down low. See http://caltopo.com/view#ll=44.1039,-121.7697&e=6&t=,usi&z=6&c=-4.46,-6.04

Caltopo is the best tool I currently know of for checking the view from any location, better than http://www.peakfinder.org/, although that has a nice inexpensive mobile app which works even witho...
Nice job!  Good weather window, reasonable objective, and a great time.

I think dad & daughter owe each other big hugs for that one!

-Dave
Thanks! Don't go there too frequently, but I've got this map downloaded on my phone and will try it out next time I'm there.
nice shots! glad you got out on the nice weather window. Too bad we didn't find out how a cocker would fare on the upper mountain... but probably a good call.
Thank you for the correction and the history lesson  :)

Made an attempt at skiing to the summit this weekend on the Eamon's route. The four of us skied to camp Sherman on Saturday and were going to attempt the summit Sunday morning.

Yup, that's a Dusky Grouse
The rangers hadn't put in a route yet. The White river ranger station isn't manned yet and it was all self registration this weekend. The Ranger hut at Sherman was also unmanned from what we could tell.

It's a dusky grouse - which was split up from the blue grouse cohort (not dusky and sooty) back in 2006.

No, it likely wasn't a nest issues.  The birds are generally, well, wacko.  One followed my wife for 4 miles while she was doing stream surveys.  Another time we were doing stream surveys together in MT on kept running up to her and doing the full-on fan-tail display...

For the dyna set up is she in a very small woman's boot?

The boots are hand-me-down's from jtack's wife.  Size 23.

Not too many little ones touring and shredding out there, it would be cool to get them all out together sometime.
Good to hear the crevasses weren't an issue yet. Have the rangers put in a route yet?
Very nice!  I'm sure she'll remember that trip forever.

Nice!

Good idea to make it an overnight so you weren't rushed.
Ben had just finished telling me about a ski video where a wild bird had befriended some ski tourers and rode uphill on their packs and flew downhill with then when they skied.  I was still trying to decided if I believed him when up waddled what we though was a grouse.  It walked right into the middle of us and talked to us while we talked back.  It didn't seem aggressive or scared.  It looked curious.  We might have spent 15 minutes just talking back and forth with this bird.  When you re...
We were hoping the bird (still unsure whether it was grouse or a ptarmigan) would follow us along for the whole trip...there was a moment when we thought this was going to be the case.

We were hoping for this....

Great trip you guys! All the years I have spent tramping around the alpine, I have never had more than a fleeting look at a Ptarmigan! The bird wisperers!
that's an inspirational TR.  I hope to someday get that experience with my kids.  thanks for posting.
Otter Creek and Slide lake via Illabot road is another way to go; starts at 2800'. I think it may get you in quicker...  but I've not gone in via Cascade River.

Great pics as always, nice to see the terrain from the other side.
Awesome, looks like beautiful ski terrain.
Super trip, Stefan!!  Funny you mentioned Snow King as a smooth way out.  I just did an overnighter there, too tired today...
Any thoughts on access into McCall Basin?  I think the road was closed at one point due to damage.  Anyone know if it's open now?
Nice job Amar. Now I really want to do that route. How long do you think it will be good for?
