...wow what a difference a normal snowpack makes... images below are from July 4th last year. It was laughable to even consider skis much below Snow Dome itself. The Blue was entirely bare, which was actually a blast to walk on, I just figured it would be like that only in September...

It was great running into you guys up there! I was the friend with the family you posted a picture of. They were all excited to see the little bit you wrote about their youngest, and shared your post on facebook.

Nice!  Does that ribbon/couloir up to the right lead to the backside of Colchuck Balanced Rock?  I remember looking down on a sweet line from just below the summit.

I think that is the one you probably looked down on. It looked to me from the map that it might be too steep on the enchantments side to be a pass through. Do you recall if you could have gotten from t...
Surely you tried to push it to see if you could get it going again.

We passed you guys as you were getting onto the Blue glacier - great work hauling in the board!
18 miles only gets you to Glacier Meadows. Summit day from Elk lake (15ish miles) was around 11 miles or something one way. Fun times.
Nice work carrying your snowboard up the Hoh! I've walked that trail. Its a long ways. Isn't it about 18 miles to the mountain?

Sorry to hear you are moving away from the PNW. I hope the east coast treats you well.
That kinda sums it up nicely. Basically it was a good day for navigation skills. Good chatting with you. Your baby stroller was still there when we left.  Our readers ought to count on carrying skis to Van trump very soon.
Awesome.
I noticed your tracks on Saturday.

KLW, did you ski SW chutes down to RTM and then back to cold springs on that trail? I usually (earlier in the season) ski SW chutes to 7000', and then traverse back on snow. I was wondering if, in later season (now), one can just keep skiing down SW aspect until you hit the trail. Sounds like that is what you did?

Dave.

Awesome smooth corn everywhere  ;D

Nice to meet you up there (again).  I will just add that the Flett headwall had a smooth snow and skied very nice indeed, with no sluffing.  There is a convenient bootpack on the right side of the wall (sharp tool recommended for the top part).

Thanks for the report. Hoping to head that way soon!

We witnessed two summer scary snow events in the cirque. Here is the first. This happened before we arrived, but not much before. The sidewalls are still crisp. Maybe yesterday?  Scary avalanche:

Man what a neat area.  Well done!
Did you ski this aspect?  Did you hike by Lake Sylvester?

No, we went up Chatter Creek and skied the East side. That looks pretty nice though.
Great photos and comments on your Facebook link.  ;)

thanks for the great photos; did you ski SW chutes or south side? If the former, how much shenanigans (carries, etc.) to get back?

D.

I just posted some beta here:

We returned from the SW Chutes by first skinning from ~7,800' (or lower since...

Nicely edited video capturing the whole experience and area.
Nice - like the map track!  Helpful for those of us who are not familiar with all the routes at MORA.

Nice video.  Note that you're stepping across the Inter Fork of the White River, probably ill-advised and/or dangerous on the main fork out of the Emmons.
Welcome to TAY
Looks like a beautiful day
Awesome TR!  Great move on the 'rest day'!
Minimal bugs, I was surprised.
Great days guys! Thanks for jump-starting that last excellent lap Silas.

Regarding s. sister--how were the mosquitoes?

They can be horrendous--especially at trail head.
Thanks for the great TR. I was camped inside the huge split boulders and waved at one of you from them Saturday night. I went up and repeated your Old Snowy run on my Mtn Surfs when you both skinned up to Ives. McCall basin looked sweet, but I was the only guy on skis in my group, so sided on the side of caution. I want to go back in late July...hopefully there will be east side snow still left? The Goat Rocks are heaven to me.

Looks like you waxed your skis ;) We watched you last time skiing the Paradise Glacier--skiing? More like stepping down LOL  Glad you were able to get up some speed this time! :)

I had my skis freshly waxed and also carried some rub-on wax and will make it a habit to have my skis hot waxed every couple of trips along with applying rub-on wax before each run....

Great TR!  Thanks for sharing!
Skied S Sister on the 25th, still some good snow right after the cold weather but going fast. Lot of hiking for 1500 ft. of vert.
I removed the images and added a link. Thanks for letting me know they didn't work.
I love the Goat Rocks and especially the area around Snowgrass Flats. Sounds like a great trip.

Images aren't showing up for me either. It could be that they're hosted on Google and they aren't set to public? Or it could be that google doesn't allow hotlinking. I'm not sure but I definitely can't see the images.
a little iphone video of conditions-

(ski 'partner' was not Becky-  the wifey/nurse-in-training was finishing up a 3x12 series of shifts at the hospital Saturday night and wasn't too keen to join Ross and I for the 4am Sunday start on Baker)
Just another good example of if you don't go you don't know! Looks like a great trip, I have already missed several potentially good trips because I thought it was "too late" nice going
Duly noted on the tracks, I was wondering. Not sure if the pics are a problem for others, I can see them from multiple devices.... bah technology
[on my end your pics aren't showing up and I bet they are great]

Nice to meet you both, thanks for letting me tag along. I should have ridden McCall side but didn't feel right messin around over there solo for my level of risk tolerance. Sorry I didn't get back down to give you beers.. I fooled around and went over to a rock outcropping after skiing half way down to go get more photos, ya'll took off pretty quick.

btw I asked for ID on the big tracks up...
COOL...1500 works anywhere..fun to be able to sus those shots out...
Nice Pete!  Happy to have your partner back for a while, I imagine.
I have always started at Sunrise, that's where he origanal trail to the lookout was/is. The gate to the main lodge is closed, making Sunrise an easy option.
You must know Bachelor pretty well. I need to tag along one of these times.
