Skiing was good on 28th.
Why can't I post pictures?
I couldn't figure out how to post pictures either, not sure if it's my lack of tech savviness or if there's something wrong with the site.

Thanks for the TR.
I like to read about MRNP skiing, then check the webcams for the Tatoosh and the parking lot :)

I made it up to Paradise and MRNP for the first time yesterday, man is there a lot of good terrain up there! We were able to begin skinning in the flats below Pan Point, although the recent rains seem to have melted out a lot of this season's snow. Above Pan Point and up the snowfield to about 8,600 feet (our high point) there was 3-5 inches or so of wind-boardy new snow over a firmer base....
Thanks for the report. I have been curious how the skiing is up there.
Next time I will try and connect with you and hitch a ride!

Enjoyed the video, thanks for putting in extra laps for those of us stuck at work.

Nice!
Considered it but went for the easy pickings on the Muir side instead. Not bad

Amazing! Half considered making the long trip down from Vancouver on Friday night to ride the Inter today but wasn't sure if the snow/weather would be worth it. Apparently I was wrong. Now I wonder if the narrow window you speak of is closed :( Glad you got to hit it while it's good!
2000'+ of nice corn skiing was the real thing. :) 229 months.
Road status as of today is the road is open to White River Campground, estimated closure is on Oct 31.

You can park there overnight but you still need wilderness camping permit (self issued at White River Ranger Station).
As for camping in the campground itself when it is closed, well that is a bit of a grey area.

Must be closing in on 18 TAY's, eh? Glad your snow field was much bigger than mine. I look forward to the real thing!!!
Anyone know what the deal is with White River campground in the off-season (e.g. now)? Wondering if I can park there overnight.
Sounds like once-in-a-lifetime conditions on a unique mountain. Would love to see high-res pictures when you get the chance.
Nice work!
I would not worry too much about pit results in October but good on you for digging.

Wow, good one! Makes skiing powder in April before it gets sloppy look like child's play, I bet.
Thanks for the report and great photos! Looks great up there
That looks insanely good. So much better than when I was up there in mid-August.
Thanks for the intel. Toddball #(-;(>

Great to meet you Todd and the rest of your crew up there. Thanks for the photos. Good start to the season!
Did not observe any loose or slab failure while skinning. We had a hard time identifying specific layers in the pit, although there was a noticeable density increase at around 50cm depth (total depth around 120cm). Could not get a column to fail under compression.
There was some thin wind slab high up in Spire Gully, though.

How was stability ? Looked like you all ascended in a tight group on a loaded slope next to fresh avalanche debris. What did your pit below the cornice reveal ? Skiing looked super fun ! X
As of yesterday (probably got obliterated the day after this post) the pow is gone. It has returned to the more typical volcanic fare of ice, breakable crust, and schmoo. Skins on is already likely pushed back to 6000 ft from 5300 ft. The scenery is still of course top notch.

Amazing stuff. Myself and my 2 brother just moved to Seattle and want to get out and do some splitboarding next weekend. would love to connect with some locals to show us the way.
The road will probably only have a skiff of snow on it in the parking lot after this heat. There was snow just before the parking lot when we were there.
Maybe 30 people showed up with skis and boards on Saturday. No gong show, just a bunch of people enjoying the start of the season. We found 6" of very nice powder on top of the rain crust. The day started bluebird and high clouds built throughout. Every run, it seemed we were treated to a sun break. Wind picked up by afternoon, gusting strong at ridgetop, and refreshing the tracks. I bet it's completely different today!
Photo album link fixed, I hope.
Yee-Haw, bruthahs! Way to sniff it out and take it home!!!
Thanks for the photos of the coverage. Nice to see winter is coming.:)
How's the road hangin in there for 4x4 truck?
what a rad video of a great day!
pretty cool to ride the whole IG in pow with no road sledding required. i'm glad i was able to get out of work and represent as the token snowboarder.
here's a few photos and a 30 second video...

Closed again next Tuesday for more tree cutting
I was up on Bach this last June and saw a similar black fox. It came trotting down the trail toward us, carrying some kind of dead Squirrel in it's mouth. The fox obviously saw us but kept moving, down the trail toward us, until it was about 10 feet away. Then it walked off the trail to go around us, just out of reach, without missing a beat. 10 feet below us it loped back on to the trail like running into people with skis on their back was just another ho hum day in the life. My guess...
Tree cutting had the gate closed in the am. It was open on our way out.

So we got high!!!
Think I got a contact high!
What's the road situation? Looks like you walked from the gate at White River
Pete, No issues with thin bridges or hidden cracks. There were a few slumping/depressions hard climbers right, but those were easy to steer far clear from.
very envious! that looks fantastic.... thanks for posting!
any issues with thinly bridged (or open) crevasses midway up the glacier?

You Devils! That looks so good! Beutiful turns, Blower snow, and you still got to Rolff your skis!! Thanks for the post!
The day started with low expectations as those brief weather windows don't always open for me. We almost turned around at noon. You were going to ski with your skins....Then the sun came out strong, we saw the tracks of a large Elk that must have skirted us in the cloud, we ripped skins and skied better snow than anyone deserves in October! World class views. Sunshine. Smooth, turnable snow. Baker backcountry! Thanks for the Intro David.

May close nightly due to weather. Check Twitter for gate status and other road condition updates
Was good to go during the brief weather break on Wednesday. Trace at the base of the Hogsback, knee deep at the top and much deeper on the glacier. All the little cracks in the typical zones were no where to be seen. Deepest mid-october snowpack on the glaciers I've seen in quite a few years. About 10 peeps, mostly splitboarders out and about. Prepare for a gong show this coming Saturday.
