Psyched on his first slot run
Thanks for the TRs guys. Way to take advantage of the great weather.

I was high up on Cooper Spur on Sat. Not a breath of wind and the sun made It feel like summer, almost. It was completely wind scoured by the Friday storm. Good turns were had in the Pollalie and Tilly Jane drainages, but it was mostly suvival skiing up high. One could have easily skied straight off of the spur onto the elliot via one the two snow ramps and found deep wind transported snow.
Just climbed Leuthold yesterday. Not sure if you're saying they looked good for climbing or skiing. Definitely not good for skiing. The upper Reid glacier would be a great ski. No signs of the bergschrund. But the couloir was super icy. Even the upper couloir was all rimed up. Climbing was great though. Some spicier icier sections than I expected. And some good front pointing. Everything held together nicely, except for the contantly raining ice balls. The ski down from hogs back was terrib...
Just a good ol skin track power nap
Oh nice, we saw some skiers descending that from pt 5909 - maybe it was you!

Cool. From the perspective you guys still got a pretty goodly-sized run!
I love the last one.

yeah... what's going on in that last photo?

Nice! I rode the north bowl below the false summit of Jim Hill and found some nice pockets of snow mixed with variable crust as we got lower.

I wouldn't say it's long gone... rather more like locked-up for later use :D

Yep, our reconnaissance yesterday found the powder still down there, below a nice supportive rain crust. Some big avalanches came down with the rain too
Better late than never - a few more pics below. It's been almost long enough to forget the suffering and start planning the next one...

What's that saying about trash in the backcountry again?

At some point the crust will soften but will be too thin to be supportative so that won't really help. Maybe there are some places a guy could get lucky...

I think it needs to get covered and then go from there.
Any idea how it's looking today Brian?
Went into Upper Tronson to maybe 5,000' and it was nasty windcake with an ice frosting...nearly unturnable...solitude, beauty, exercise...

At least we got this to keep us entertained:

Go Tabski!
Stop by...and bring some friends. I've got a great slope that would ski just like that.....After you remove the half inch sheet of ice! Rather labor intensive...

Nice one, Scott! Not as good as the "Tandem ski of St. Helens", but close.  :)

Don't you worry, the Tandem 11 Part Deux might be in the works - Since we went back last spring to finish the long anticipated and much coveted  ski from the summit.
Nice one, Scott! Not as good as the "Tandem ski of St. Helens", but close.  :)
Great TR and video.  We leave our van at a bus stop on a powder day and have the freedom to go. ;)
Yeah, I had a great short tour yesterday at the end of#2 Canyon and would have loved to head back today but the freezing rain has done it's damage.
Can't remember if you were smart phoned or not...always my backup camera if the battery isn't dead.  Have to admit though, lost one to precip up in the hills, so now I plastic bag it.

Edgesport brings up the risk issue...what's a dad to do? Battle schedules with the kid-less, go poke around and make the call on site, or through in the towel?  I vote for poke around and wear a helmet.

Nice work Sky.
NEX-5N user here.. you can buy a sensor cleaning kit for maybe $10-20. It is a little harrowing but not bad. KISS principles, and don't treat it like it's a dirty kitchen sink that needs scrubbing. I clean mine maybe once a year now, even though it gets stuff on it, most of the time you can blow it off with air or whatnot.

High Sky
x2
Nice work!  7 cars in the ditch between Morton and Elbe.
I've been training my neighbors...different skill set but life is better. sometimes you just have to take the lead and be the trainer...
Fun times!
When we exited Bullion Basin in December we ran into (almost literally) a group that had struggled with the narrow trail and stopped to re-skin for the rest of the descent....about 150 yards before the footbridge  :(
I did bust through the skin track on my second lap. But I also did drop from the top knowing the slope's stability before dropping in.
That is a great ski! Note to all who hate busy skin tracks.............middle of town, and he had the whole place to himself!  The approache looked a little to dangerous for me though.
It's good photo I think. It reminds me of JP Auclair's ride to catch the bus!
Lots of fun tree skiing along this route. Unfortunately I did a bad job of pulling out the camera at the best times.
I'm not sure if its going to make it in Alpenglow, but nice work!
That looks like a pretty long ski! Nice!
Great meeting you and chatting in the skin track. Awesome day, almost too much powder... almost.
Thanks to you and your crew for breaking the trail for the last 1500ft. According to my fancy-pants watch, being able to draft you guys doubled our speed.

yet i am drawn to it like a glorious sunset

this virtual place  i choose to inhabit and blame for my worldly woes

Could be worse?
Great to see you yesterday Silas! Hope you guys had fun!
Brings back lots of fond memories of the area...   Nice report and pic's.

Got cliffed out once in a major way on a cloud/foggy descent off of Snow Lake.
Drew, yo buddy!  Hope all is well.

Edgesport, it's tricky with two boys under three years old.  My would-be ski buddies (not very many in the first place) are really only interested in all-day type ski trips, which I mostly avoid right now.  When I do something like this by myself I can get a full wilderness adventure and be home in no time.  I'll probably run up there to lap a groomer after I put Kaj to bed tonight.

Jtack, I thought about taki...
Now is the winter of our bliss and content
Made inglorious summer by this din of snork
Nice Andy, new twist on an old standard.
Access like that would be great but I don't know about the solo chute tagging.
Great vid and nice work.  The traverse back to mile chair with the spin drift out pacing you had a very cool illusion to it.
Better than Jerry Springer ...which is really good!
