Thanks guys, I changed the names to your suggestions because I think having names, whether official or not, are better than no names or numbers.

Yikes.  Glad Jan's OK.
Excellent pics Scott!

I wish I could have joined you.

Joe, that's what avalanche poodles are for.

Good idea Keith.  Sounds like less maintenance.   ;D
Too bad they took my monkey away.
Ditto.
Raukin' pictures, cons.

Also FWIW - I think your "no name peak" (aka 6524 on most USGS maps) is called Foss Peak. I've seen it named as such  on some other maps (Stanley Mt Rainier Centennial Edition for one) and I know a lot of the older locals call it that.

Keep up the great photos - the Tatoosh surely rocks.
Thanks for sharing cons.  The Tatoosh is one of my favorite places.

The no name peak is called Foss.  I call the lake Castle Lake but I don't know where I got that one.  The sub peak on Unicorn I call Pollycorn but it may have a common name.  I also want to change the name of Boundary Peak (The other bump S of Unicorn) to Mollycorn and call point 5868 (across the Butter Creek drainage) Boundary Peak.  But of course until they are printed on Jarvis' r...
I was thinking the same thing.
I had one of my best pow trips ever in April of '08.  We were in the Tatoosh and it was deep and it was good.  There is still hope.

I was expelled for punching the Scoutmaster ( middle aged dude)in the face during a summer camp. I was sent home on the train in disgrace.
I was only 12 I think. I still do not regret it as he was being a bullying dick.
That's some serious snow mountaineering.
Must have been exciting crossing that Hanging Glacier looking up and down all the way. Did you have to put skins back on after the ski into the deep gully while on the Hanging Glacier to cross it?
Excellent work and Kudos to Scole getting that great shot in the right light.
Holy crap. Awesome lines, well done. Great photo as well

I like the pictures better anyway.
Sorry Stugie I forgot to call you back, could have joined you on Sunday.
We enjoyed the same quality in our Dick Cheney "Undisclosed location", which ironically provided Dick Cheney "Face Shot" turns.
Nice pictures I love skiing and climbing that area.

I sooo want to join the elite, but haven't had time to grow out my hair and trade my car in for a vw bus. Until then I'm stuck with my crappy AT gear...

;)

Q:  What's a tele turn?
A:  When the outside tip dives, then the rear ski.  ::)
LOL...nice, sorry we missed you guys too.  Our "MRNP" escapade probably looked familiar to you both. ;)  I quit Scouts Scotsman...couldn't wait long enough to get kicked out.  :D  Glad Dick Cheney finally did something good.

Thanks movenhike, appreciate it!
Perhaps belief in snow pack assessment without using explosives should be relegated to private tours and not public recreation.  While this slide did occur during the patrol opening procedures, should they not have triggered the slide and the paying public had been involved, the liability outcome may have been different.  If the patrol is involved in control, whether in-bounds or beyond the gate, liability issues lurk.

Was the run later opened to the public?  Was it clo...
That 1st Pow shot is remarkable!  Perhaps the best I've seen in a couple years, right on!!
Too hard to walk away....its March. May be a long wait till I ski pow again. I have hope though.

I was thinking that I should have upped castigating consequences to a pajama party with Lorena Bobbitt.
It's OK for me to be selfish, since I did all the recon. I just don't like to see tracks there, unless they're mine!

S'OK. I agree, that particular area and your recon work gives you dibs!
heh. I'm not shooting with anything that outragous. I shoot with a Pentax 10 megapixel DSLR and what I put up int this thread is just a small crop from a larger photo. I shot this using my 55-300mm zoom lens at 190mm.

Here's the entire photo:

Whats sick is the camera lens Scole must own for getting that shot from Mt Baker.  What in the heck are you shooting with!!?

Anyhow, the skiing was top notch and 13 laps later we were satisfied.

Wow, that is a big day.  I have never done half that many laps in a day.  Nice work.
10 points to Otter for the lines ~ 10 points to Scole for the pic.

But who's keeping score..
n, it was nice to have that slope to ourselves. Normally on a powder day there are lots of folks back there.

Nice report. Skied up on Turnagain the 12th and had Bluebird w/ great pow! AWESOME place and it sure helped getting a 45" dump the night of the 7th!

Thanks. I was waiting for someone to own those tracks last weekend but the report didn't come..
Nicely done D. I need to get a hold of you for the spring season.
Great photos. We saw you shoot the photo of the largest drop with the large boulder from across the creek. Surprised by the lack of people out that day.

Gary, feel free to add to or refute any of this ;)

Oh, and thanks for an incredible day! When is the next time we'll get snow like this to ski in the Oly's?!? (aside from tomorrow ;D )

Nothing to refute, but I'll add a couple things.

Saturday had all the potential for being a pretty hazardous day at the Hurricane Ridge Ski Area. The Ridge had received better than a foot of new snow during the...
Yes a very strange day indeed up there....I was headed out to Maggies, followed your tracks out and saw you drop in on the North side of Maggies, as I continued on a large section on snow I was on gave a large whoomph sound which set my heart pounding. Maggies was lovely but slow as the sun and temps were quickly changing the conditions. Brian it was difficult to keep my tip up and have never needed to lean back so far on my board as I had to that day my ride seemed to be in slow motion and whil...

One question though, how did you keep your tips up in the super deep snow?  ;D

Just pull the joystick back. Way back. You knows how I roll...
I think I was admiring those tracks from the Boulder Ridge trailhead that day...

Glad you guys had a good day, and everyone made it out ok.

Thanks for the report.

It sounds like I should teach my wife to ski so that I can send her ahead to scout. ;)

Joe, that's what avalanche poodles are for.
I agree that Hyak is a great place for starting out. And the more new people you can bring in to share our addiction, the better. In our group, with several of us aged 60 +/-, our strategy is to bring in as many younger people as we can, so that 20 years from now when our lungs and memories are failing we'll have someone to pull us up the slope and point us downhill.
Thanks for the report.

It sounds like I should teach my wife to ski so that I can send her ahead to scout. ;)
(Glad that your OK Jan)

Are you guys going back for more tomorrow?
thank you for your sense of humor. i badly needed this tonight after a long day in my shop building doors. glad you had some fun today.
sweet .. my big bro was over that way ... and had a great time ... he's headed to mt blanc now and then back to the sierras ... where i may join him ...
Toured Eddies yesterday to get a look at the north facing couloir which was our original objective ...

Can't wait to go after this again  ;D
