Nice work.  Way to bring the shirtless-beacon pose in your first TR!

couldn't help myself....
Awesome.  Hall of Fame stuff, there..
We started on the summer trail then diverted to the creek bottom.  This worked but I think we would have done better working our way up at an angle toward the pass at or near the path of the summer trail.  We got to the basin looking up steep slopes in every direction (Ruth straight ahead), and were not sure there was a good and safe route right up the gut.  So, we cut hard left into the woods and up to the pass.

From the pass, we went around the left (east) side of the point, which w...
Otter:  No whumphing or evidence of recent slide activity on north facing slopes.  Recent snow had peeled off of E, S, and W slopes due to the sun earlier in the week, but the wind kept the temperatures low on Saturday and everything in the sun was locked down.  Pit on a sheltered NW slope at 7500' ECT23, Q3, No propagation.  We cut a moderately sized cornice on the north face that resulted only in loose surface movement.  On the whole stability was good and only be...
Nice TR. Did you have any whumpfing or test results? Did you just dig one pit or was the hoar widespread? Looking to head out that way this week possibly.
Thanks
Dan
Damn, Rinckenberger....that is one sweet descent line! I think I can confidently say that I would not have noticed your "more cautious option down a line we had spotted on the west face."

Great TR and glad to hear that things went so smoothly.
Damn - that slide on the moraine is sobering.  It's a nothing convexity below tree line.  That's touchy snow
Thanks for the report -- we're heading up there in mid-April.  Hopefully things will have started to stabilize by then.
Nice work.  Way to bring the shirtless-beacon pose in your first TR!
Whoo-whee
Nice trip!
Sweet ski line!
Yeah, a few weeks ago would have been better, for sure.  A good spot to keep in mind for a better year.

It was totally fun, in a ridiculous-recon trip sort of way.  Sometimes you have to pay the price before you're allowed to ride the ride, eh? :)

My gear is still drying out in the basement.
I am dubbing this the "where the F is kyle miller' tour day. I looked over there for you guys a few times. Then at brewery,, then the white salmon lot. Too bad I didn't have my computer or I could have just GPS tracked you down;)

That's what I get for leaving my cell phone at home.

Awesome tour. Where you anywhere in view of mt baker at around 11 or so?
sounds fun...?

Nyla was hiking up there a few weeks ago and there was snow to be found.

I was hoping to do some touring up there this winter, but snow levels changed my plan.

Did you follow the drainage then north face? Your mention of the pass makes it sound like you took the ridge.
Nice work Scott!  And a fine first post, to boot...

"A candyland of corn pillows" -- I don't know whether to be hungry, sleepy, or nostalgic for childhood games.
Yow! Nicely done.
Schweet col Oyvind, Matt & Zee. We were wondering who was making the sneaker tree and it all became clear when we saw you postholing up that col.  I called out when we were skiing down to Moraine lake but eh, it might've been a bit too far.  I'm guessing that Pete might post our TR but superb conditions for the Forbidden tour as well.  Sorry we couldn't meet up with you guys but we couldn't leave town until Friday morning.
Gee, what kind silly people could you find to go on that kind of a hike?

In a good a snow year and in wintertime (happy vernal equinox!) that could be a really fun tour. The forest back there is fabulous and the creek crossings were exciting at times.

It was a fun day even if we didn't get to ski! :)
Definitely like that second shot...nice!  That looks like a nice line had it held a bit more snow...
Wow!  Nice work and effort!!!
That line sure is a beauty and she's steep as well.
Not many places better . Thanks mucho for the inspiring  report . Do you go in  via knapsack?
If I glass real hard I might see your tracks.
Nice dude, SOLID!  ;)
Ahhh, THAT Dave -- cool.  I tried to convince Randy to buzz Sharkfin Col on Saturday morning, but he wasn't having any of it.
Wow Kyle, sounds like you got your fair share of exercise the past few days! Nice work
No, Marcus we never saw them although we saw several parties come down to Moraine Lake while we were climbing the chute to the Torment Col. Perhaps we were too fast for them  ;)

would have been cool to see them though.
Nice Oyvind!  Did you run into Andy & Mica et al?
Telemon you just earned more good karma!

I couldn't pass up an opportunity to be on the westside of the mountains and ski a place I hadn't been to in quite a few years.
There is always a chance when you turn down a ski adventure that you will wish you hadn't. I passed up on Travertine's invitation because I had a number of yard work obligations and also due to a bit of uncertainty as to avy risks. So I shoveled s**t for my mother-in-law when I could have been enjoying the same blue skies with ski poles in my hands. She was very pleased with my work, but I lost what sounds like a great day in the mountains and everyone lost the photos that I would have...

I didn't have time to look at all the pictures but the writing is great!

:) Thanks Ale!  Breakfast included bananas, apples, and coffee...although I could have definitely gone for one of Brad's sandwiches!

no shortage of smiles and great snow.

That right there makes for a great tr!  It's hard not to smile when you're looking at the N. Cascades!  Nice read, way to nail Shuksan!
Nice, way to get some good turns in!  Sounds like a great day with the easy approach and great snow!
Was up there yesterday and all I can say is.......exceptional snow, sun, and fun.
Great outing!
Sick! I didn't have time to look at all the pictures but the writing is great!

What did you have for breakfast?

Spooky. Glad you guys are OK!  Gripping adventure.

That baby, the Sill Glacier, has a hanging section. As I was reading, especially, "... so much debris that it looked like glacial moraine and piles of glacial debris as opposed to avalanche debris," I was thinking that it was pieces of the glacier coming down. 3,400 feet of climbing in the col.

Nice work staying alive, fellas.  Good route selection, or good luck (or both) to have you out of the way of the worst of it when it let go.

I am now even more paranoid than ever about falling cornices.

You're not paranoid if they really are coming for you! Thanks for the cautionary tale. Glad to hear that no actual skiers were hurt in the production of this adventure. Nick & I were quite happy to be watching & hearing big icefalls down onto the Nisqually from 1/4 mile away yesterday.
Glad you lived to ski/board another day, that's quite a bowling alley.
Maybe "Scotty's Stub"?  :D
Nice report on what looks like was a great trip. I can see Mt. Baker from my office window, defiantly was thinking of you guys.

Looks like I'm going to have a chat with Tyler's boss, he is being way to generous with giving him days off, we do have a business to run ......  ;)

Gary
yes,  marble mountain snow park.  sorry for the missing info.
Heading up tomorrow, thanks for the report.  Nice pics.
I think I know the answer based on your elev. reference, but did you park at Marblemount?
Thanks
Thanks for the research. Was thinking if we don't make May at Alpental Cinco de Mayo on Naches Peak might be the option( maybe neither).
