Yeah, the shoulder injury was on the second downhill, not 1/2 mile from the start. Serious bummer.
It's cool to see how many TAY folks were over there -- it was a great group of people, though I was pretty much at the back of it the whole day.

Gosh it was a BEAUtiful day 8)!!!
We lost you Marcus early, before the first aid station. Mustve passed you and the shoulder injury during the SCARY part of the tour (I know I was preoccupied).
That line under those flimsy skis give me palpitations just sitting at my computer :D

Man, the temptation of that line was something else, but I wouldn't have done it justice with those skis, I fear. Lots of beautiful shots like that all along the route, too.
Well said. Of the race last year and this year, the only crux was passing all of untracked, cold snow slopes. Was night to get away from Snoqualmie Pass, get above the clouds a...
Yeah, just chop off that end and get a set of the STS tail straps. I've done that with mine after breaking the metal clip on those ClipFix attachments.
They were. My mom hasn't been the same since.
Sorry about the lack of pictures this was my first post and I'm still figuring this out
Pics look like a lot of GPSing around. Well not all prospecters hit paydirt every day. The best tours take compliations of many tours. Looks like maybe Ron was on" point" in that pic of him climbing back up ? The VOGT rosetta map shows some routes down around" Faraway ridge and Faraway rock. Could be that just not enough snow this year for the route to be more apparent??? .Not critical just jealous and would do point on the next try.
Awesome! I've spent lots of time in the Eagle Caps and Hells Canyon in the fall, but have never skied there. The slopes I watch for the elusive elk or deer in that area are prime for riding and the scenery doesn't get much better. I've been considering a trip with WAH for some time now. Nice work bagging Red Mountain, it doesn't get much better than that I'd imagine (all things considered - solitude, scenery, snow, etc.). Thanks for the repo...
Happy Birthday! Were the skis attached at birth?
I was up there riding chairs today. I though my thermometer was tweaked out on the way home when I saw 66/67 in the valley! I guess it really happened.

FYI: I was the CBSP guy on the radio at Standup Creek while you were on the Hog. I just posted a detailed description here. What a fantastic day!
Copy that, Mark. Good to put a voice to a TAY username! Thanks for the current info on Earl access conditions.

A couple photos from the day.
..that's an impressive boot/binding fix.. A sweet line, too..
Nice Mark -- exploratory work for another day.

Thanks for the report Gary and Jan, so glad that the road is reopened. I'm hoping to get up there next weekend if you guys want to show a knuckledragger around ; )
Hi Heidi, Thanks for the reply. On this shot, it looks suspiciously like snowmobile tracks on the left. Can you confirm?

Nasty manky stuff indeed. Watched Amar and Ned shoot the chute. Pretty lines. Got nervous seeing them so close to the earlier crown face. That was the only slab evidence I witnessed today, everything else seemed to be wet snow avalanches.
Thanks for the TR & pics. I've been waiting for the road to open, too. At least you found better snow than the last time I went out. I'll be headed your way late this coming week. Are you available for next Friday?
You guys scored getting Bonnie as your trip leader.
She's level headed, experienced ad knows the area well.

Great trip report and pics, Chris. Very fun day. I was back down there today and the top two inches had turned into a nasty crust, although bluebird and warm. Can't complain. We scored yesterday. Thanks again for the pics.

Wooley, was that you with your daughter? I was skiing with two women, one of whom had broken the pin on her boot. Passed the dad/daughter combo just at the end of the last climb. Through several iterations, Voile straps, wire ties and duct tape, we managed to reinvent a basic beartrap binding by the end of the course. Great fun. One unlucky fellow dislocated his shoulder early on in the cou...
Internet anonymity has it's plusses and minuses. The guy with the snow bunny in the back pack was my son. I was the much older dude carrying the diapers, wet wipes and gummy bears in the orange jacket about 15 min behind. Sorry we missed. On a higher note, I'm sitting at The Pass in the hot tub listening to 50's music and waiting for the full moon to come up so we can skin up Hyak and have a little wine cheese. Life is good!!!

John, sorry I missed you!

author=Jim Oker link=topic=15788.msg65912#msg65912 date=1267379610]Oops! That's right, the run is called Bundy's. I was pretty tired last night when I wrote up the report ;)
Maybe if someone publishes the definitive map, we can properly sort this all out ;-)
I would upload the map from my GPS but I'm getting an error "Cannot access attachments upload path!" which sounds like a server side issue.

Great pics of the slide! Is Bunyan's Run the same as "Bundy's Blunder" ;) or has somebody named yet another run in the Paradise frontcountry?

While Rogets' may have them on the same page, I suspect that 'variation' is a more operable and useful term than 'anomolous' or 'deviation'. Thanks for the level comments, Mark.
Off to check the variation at Hogback.. :) dg

Mark, thanks for all the work you do. I, and everyone I ski with, read the NWAC forecasts almost daily. However, we do read the disclaimers and cautions and we are fully aware that macrostability and microstability are two different things and it is our responsibility as backcountry travelers not only to be aware but to be assertive in looking for signs of instability, probing the snow as we travel to look for layers, observing signs of wind activity, doing hasty pits, and, if we have any...
Since I was the NWAC forecaster for the trip period (2-24-10) on the original Tatoosh post, I thought I'd chime in here before the topic becomes too speculative on forecast "discrepancies" or what the NWAC forecast did or did not say. And so that everyone can be more objective in their dissection of the forecast for Feb 24, I've included a copy of the detailed forecast narrative for the day and area under discussion. As indicated, the forecast was issued late morning of the...
Great event! Flew in from just west of Syracuse (GO Orange) to ski the event for the first time with my son and grand daughter. Snow was terrific, sun was shining and smiles were all around. The mayhem on the first few downhills was hystarical to watch and it was just as much fun to provide the entertainment for others. Think I had the record for elasped time - 7:40 a.m start - 4:15 p.m. finish. The24 lb team support pack I carried grew with every diaper change. Full TR with pictures to follow....
a guy set off a wet slide on the south facing (9-1-1) slopes of the back bowl of Mazama today, out ran it. All the snow we found was heavy and some pretty wet all the way out past the Cowlitz Divide.
Wish I had read this report before skiing the tatoosh on Thursday...
I set of two different slabs, both on north to northeast facing slopes.
The first one 100-150ft wide and a foot to a foot and a half deep.
The second one about 50ft wide with about the same depth as the first one.
They ran about 200ft moving very fast and stopped when the pitch mellowed out.
Should have skied a safer line.
Thanks for the report.

Nice trip. This is a rare year for access in the eastern Olympics. Good time to get with it.
Just got back from the Wallowas and was greeted by the goodness in my backyard. Nice work on the shutter Joe.
Nice job you guys, sounds like a great trip! FYI maybe it's a fluke, but it appears the links to the pics aren't working. You need to post links to more, regardless!
We were able to drive to Bridge Creek campground on Icicle Rd. The road up to the Stuart Lake TH is still gated, but there's snow the whole way up so at least it's skinnable.
Hi Becky:
How far were you able to drive: the road is still gated, right?
Thanks, N

Sounds like a great trip!! Do you know what mountain is in the photo Img 1293?
Sunday is tempting if it weren't for the gold medal hockey game. Though there'll certainly be a lot more snow up there by then, wind too, watch that windslab, enjoy!
Enjoy more pics!
