That is such an impressive area and good thing too as the remarkable aesthetics warrent the trials of the climber's trail and boulder field.  I was hoping to get up there again this season but now with my ski boat finally in the water, such trips seem like comparatively much more effort.  Funny how that works.
Thanks for the TR

Very nice. wish I where there .. <3 U guys.

<3 U 2 Scott. (that is a heart right?)  It would have been great to have you along but you don't seem to do South and we already had a splitter.  ;)

Maybe I can make it up to your neck of the hills before I hang em up.

I liked the video of the crevasse-hop.
Think this tour will be worthwhile in another 10 days or so?
I like the cut of this TR's jib.
Fine job, boys.  Glad you had soft snow.
You meet the nicest folks in the parking lots if you open with, "Hey, we have skis too!"  ;D
"various forms of showing one's full love to scrumpets. In this arena, Colin is surprisingly non-extreme."

DOn't worry dude, it will come to you.  Somethings get bettter with age. ;)

Awesome, and again timely report Eduardo!
Super cool Ryan. I'm glad you were finally able to get out there. Pretty awesome place for skiing that's for sure.

The diamond on the west face (or africa or s america...It looks like em all), is a fun ski as well.
WOW! One of you guys was Colin Haley! Probably better that I didn't know or I would have embarrassed myself gushing.

I have been following Colin's climbing career for years and he is one bad ass mountain man.

Congratulations. But for climbers of this caliber, it was a walk in the (national) park.
Very cool.
I was skinning up the Russell on the 15th, just in time to see you as little descending flies on the great big sugar cone of Rainier. What it looked like was ... Was a little unusual at the time to see various of you ski different lines, but of course the separate TRs (Eric/Dan's , and yours) later explained that ...
Left Portland around 5:15am... arrived at Cloud Cap around 7am.  Left campground soon after and walked
along the ridge on dirt and scree for about 45 minutes.  At the cairn, dropped down onto terminus of Elliot
glacier and took a somewhat climber's right route up the snowfield, passing the crevasse field on the right.

Hope that helps!

Love the 'no big deal' attitude.  Great line, great style.

10 points
One of the coolest reports, and ambitious I have ever seen.  Great job!
That looks so good. You guys scored.

All you needed was a Monoskier, someone on Bigfoot skis, a Tele-Boarder and a drunk frat boy on a plastic disk to complete the Pied-Piper tour.  :D

It sounds like a goal to me: how many different vehicles down a volcano in a single party.....
Where did you drive from, how long did it take?   Snow from the car, or how much walking involved?  Thanks.  Sounds as good as Sherman was two days before.

that would be cool - if for nothing else the comic value.
People in the mountains usually laugh when they see this:
Great seeing you there.  The margaritas were a real bonus.

Second photo shows my climbing companions at the summit - I would venture to propose this is a French Bulldog FA.

You should get them sponsored !  Front page of Outside-Doggy magazine.

Skiers, snowboarders and telemarkers together?! The air must have been thin!

....a great ROUNDTRIP.

Ditto that
Very Nice
Who put in the ski tracks just left of the big ridge/butress further to the left. Is that the East Success Couloir?
That's a hell of a line.
It was enjoyable to read your TR.  It rekindled some fond memories of a "while ago" that a few us shared the same route.  We also had a mixed group with my ski buddy Rob Norheim on tele gear and Dan McHale who was riding a snowboard then and Dave another snowboarder friend of Dan's.

As you stated:" you don't have to be VERY good at something to find fulfillment, you just have to be PRETTY good for a long time and you'll get up and down some amazing plac...

Heya Brian- Great day on the Russell indeed!  Possibly the best corn I've skied this year!  I think we saw you on our descent (were you in the group of 3 snowboarders heading down just after 4pm?).

Yup, that was us.  Great day!
Haven't been to Snow Dome yet.  Hope to get there eventually...

Looks like a good time- I'm in the process of trying to lure my wife into skiing Rainier; your icy tales don't help ;)

Great description. That's how I feel inside lately.

Nice TR, and wow, still a lot of snow, even if it is a bit slushy in spots.
Nice to meet you two on the summit - Kurt's got some good photos of you dropping in- I'll send them to you once I get them downloaded. What an awesome day!

Great trip and report, Gary. Rare ski tracks on that mountain.

Thanks Michael,
There is a lot of opportunities on that mountain.  :D

Doug,

Thanks for posting the great TR and photos of the coverage next to the Timberline lifts.  It re-enforces my belief that there is no need to walk on dirt to enjoy corn without sun cups.   ;)

Did you  tour on Snowdome yet ?

And a quick note to all the elders who have inspired me on TAY as well as all the eager young whippersnappers:  I've been a rock climbing fanatic for 40 years, and injuries have gradually impacted my training until I am slowly losing ground.  I still climb three days a week, mostly in the gym.  BUT glisse mountaineering has opened new doors for me, and everywhere I look there a...

We had ambitions to skin the summit, but pushing the limits of my skinning ability resulted in a shirtless tumble near the summit, prompting us to boot the final 50'.

This definitely made for some humor right before the final summit push, but it was a worthy price to pay for the right to go "Top down screamin' out money in the bank!" all the wa...

Nice job on the trip. Pictures?

I left the camera at home to save weight and fiddling.  The young bucks should be posting theirs soon.

What Mack? There are guys older than you...
One of these days I want to try using them on snow in the morning and water in the afternoon.  Maybe if we stopped off at Alder lake on the way back from Rainier, I could get someone to give me a tow.
