How do you like your Stokes? I've got last years and they rock, but apparantly this years model has a superior forward binding position?
My Stokes are even older than yours, I got them in April 2010 (just after they were introduced in mid-season that winter, if I recall correctly).
I love them so far, I've mainly used them as a powde...
Here is a link to a few more photos of the avalanche off of Nisqually Ice Fall. We turned around at 9000' because of the increasing boilerplate and then had fine skiing down to Pan point turning skiers left down to Mazama Ridge and on down to the road.

Great TR again Amar! Your the reason I've started to do this cockamamie sport ;D How do you like your Stokes? I've got last years and they rock, but apparantly this years model has a superior forward binding position?
Back in the saddle 8) or should we say dynafits ;)
Did my first ski since my knee rehab, beautiful day, nice snow, no problems; just went to above Alta Vista and back to check how well my knee would do.
Nice you got out. Thanks for the update on conditions sounds OK even after all the rain.
thanks!
and thanks for the heads up on the link.
i'll likely be going back there this winter - i'll try to remember to let you know when.

Great pictures! Man I miss that place. I was a ski instructor there in the late 80's long before I knew anything about touring. The north and south backcrountry areas is where we played. Skinny skis and backcountry snow were a tough combo some days! BTW your Picasa link doesn't work unless you take off the # symbol. https://picasaweb.google.com/116063516989875244676/CementBasin20111127
I really need to get back up there.

There was a party on the summit today. Blue sky and all kinds of smoked salmon. Dog's where fighting over it.
Great footage and video!!Sweeeet!

"unconsolidated sugar?" I call it "polenta" ie. corn mush . . .
My stoke ratio is way too low... great video Allen! Nice stills too.
I think Allen is running in pole position for highest stoke/post count ratio of any TAYer.

So your 09 trip you booted the face, and 2011 you skinned up from the east?

I have looked at maps and wondered if one could go from Tilly Jane, up to the Spur, over and down to Lamberson, into Newton and exit Heather. Might make a nice one-nite trip in the spring.... perhaps it could even be done in the January/February dry spell's we get.
you can certainly do that but there is not much in the way of turns save a few short pitches and a...

Yes, the ride back down the ridge was a bit gripping due to tired legs and tight trees, but nice turns were had once the trees opened up. The cat track solves the tight tree problem, as well as finding a route across the Clark. Gnarl would be a solid tour with a whole lot of up and down, but in the right conditions I bet it would be well worth the effort. I'd love to hear from s...
Outstanding video. Keep this stuff coming, and thanks!
Man, big ups to the three 'a ya. Craig and I turned around at dawn when we left the rain on the windshield to find a hard crust and 20-30 mph blow in the parking lot. Never put the skis on - just sulked back to Bellingham. So much for "snow until 10."

As the first one out finding a bridge across the Clark required some scouting. The bridge I did find was better than the scary log crossing from last year at this time. I had limited time for a tour and I ended up bailing about halfway up and skiing the trees back into Clark. It saves so much time having a cat track for the run out. But we shouldn’t have long to wait before they get it p...

The 1 more run was worth it. Nice to meet you and your partners. Let me know if you ever have room for 1 more splitter.

Tell me about it V. And no caipirinahs when we hit our high point either. Yeah, it was rough.

Certainly will be heading back this winter, especially once the cat track gets laid down. I definitely want to make it over to Gnarl once the chutes fill in. I'll shoot you a PM next time I head that way. Feel free to do the...

Great TR and photos. Looks like you've got 2 dedicated skiing buddies, plus a competent photographer. ;)

Hey Don, congrats on the new skis. Happy holiday season to all.
Let's change their name to the Thread Drifters in honor of the direction this TR has gone. ;)
-When approaching the trailhead and gearing up there, I try to have a song playing that is a good one to get stuck in my head all day. (I don't use a personal stereo).

the repetition or muscle burn. With my head...

I'm unsure which dog impresses me more: the black one who posed so well or the white one who snapped such a great photo! ;D

There's usually a plowed out spot a few hundred yards east of the summer trailhead.
That's a great quick-trip idea. Might have to try and beat the rain for it in the AM.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Hey Rusty Knees, thanks for the shout-out to Summit! He spent the next day at Alpental and loved it. Huge thanks to Kevino for picking up my son's googles and then throwing up a post!
Here's a little video of Ed skiing some bumps just East of Lower International. Great snow where there wasn't any avi chunks buried.

Sweet! I'll be spending some time in that area during Christmas. Found Rock Mt. on google earth. I was wondering where exactly to park on 2, or if it's best to go from the north side past the lake? Thanks a bunch!
Great pictures.
