Looks pretty sweet down there! Do you just skin directly from the highway during the Winter?
Wow, John! I first met you in 2010 via photos taken of you on those lines. So extremely relieved you two came away from there relatively unscathed! Take care of those finger tips, and look forward to seeing you again, sooner than later.

Congratulations on finding an untracked line within a 5 mile radius of the Upper Parking Lot by Sunday. That place has become a zoo!
I have to agree.
Last Saturday several of us broke trail to Mt Anne. Looking off the summit we counted 19 people (I think 5 different groups) that followed our track. Not complaining - I follow tracks too, but I’ve be...
It was pretty sweet up there today. Very warm, but no slide activity. Here's a pic from the summit rim....

And finally, the denouement of our descent. Frostbite of middle finger, and frostnip for the pointer finger, resultant from the torn glove. Thankfully, neither deep tissue nor bone were affected by it, and full recovery is expected. Unfortunately, the fingers will be cold sensitive for a few more years. Sorry if it repulses some of you, but for others this stuff is fascinating. I've never ever had frostbite nor even nip before now.
Hey Art! Good to see you're earnin' a few turns in all that private Meany pow stash
We need to get out this spring, a little birdy told me we shared some common objectives ;)

The snow looks like it's amazing still! Plewman is sweet!
The locals there are really friendly and it's a great location. The new lift on Grey next year is going to push the side country out towards Plewman (not that far tho).
Really stoked for your sweet trip!

Gorgeous photos. I love the first one and the hoarfrost blooms.

Continuous snow started somewhere just slightly east of Glacier ;). ... Sefrit and Nooksack Tower are represented in other photos as well.
Sefrit? Cloudcap!

Ahhhhh... good report. Was hoping to go tomorrow but have nobody to travel with, so dunno. Plus, loose-wet risk is going up up up. Did you see any activity?
only on the steepest, sunniest aspects, no worries with good route finding

...how long till someone gripes about the weekend hordes that are now going to crowd st.helens? ;)
(ps- thanks for the update...was hoping that south aspects on the volcanoes would be corny by the weekend)

I was in this area over the weekend and would estimate ~2+ feet of snow at the 542 DOT shed just west of Hannegan Rd. FS roads are blocked with large snow banks.

The audacity to post this conditions report as I sit in my cubicle under a dense, grey inversion!
Thanks ;). Just hunting for information regarding shady valleys up north. It sounds ridiculous, but because valleys are so flat, the difference between a 1700' snowline and 2000' snowline can make a big difference. ~1' of consolidated snow just outside of Glacier (~1400') would be game-on for long-sought stupidity.
Did it look like sunny aspects had given up >50% of their upper loose-snow crankiness yet? Your photos might say yes?

Continuous snow started somewhere just slightly east of Glacier ;). And yes that's Icy Peak in the last photo. Sefrit and Nooksack Tower are represented in other photos as well.
Thanks! :)!! At what elevation did continuous snow start?
Really nice day to be out. That Icy in the last pic? I love that area.
Great video Ed -- loved the "5-O" rolling through at the end.
Really beautiful! Thanks for the report.
Great video, Ed! Watching the drifters cut through the glades made me feel like I was doing the skiing (I always watch my tips, just like your camera ;>)) That was a lot of fun. Thanks!
So speechless- I can't tell you how awesome this is. I've wanted to head up there during the summer and managed to make it up to the wilderness boundary during a low snow winter a couple years ago. Thanks for sharing!
Very cool. Looks like goat tracks.
Thanks John. One more photo of the incredible hoar frost flowers forming in the river bed.

Gorgeous and soulful trip from you as usual. Very identifiable sentiment, even though I've never been anywhere near that area. Thanks.
How dare you post a report with no turns ? ;.)
I really liked it though!
Good bumping into you again Silas and nice meeting some of your company, Susan, Kneel, and other names evade me at the moment. Was fun watching folks going to their own zones and getting untracked lines. We ended up all over the damn place.
We rode down to the pacific crest trail and caught up with the most geometrically perfect skin track I have ever seen that climbed up the northwest bowl of the the unknown peak. Whoever set that track, thank you and wow.
Your welcome for the track Rowan. Splitboarders sure make a smooth double wide. That last 2 ft to gain the ridge was the crux.
Btw, the peak is referred on topos as pt 6,479 or Bullion Peak.
Nice to m...
Great spot for photos, we had better visibility on a recent trip.
Glad you caught it in safe avi conditions. That canyon is a notorious terrain trap when it is not. I can recall a day or two of terror in there. This year with a right side up snowpack is a good time to slay those slopes.
Yeah...probably saw my buddy's Subaru parked below...sucks not being able to get the goods, though...?
Yeah... That must have been your Subaru parked at the bottom. I did a sled access trip at the back of Burke from the substation. Snow was better than expected. Even got face shots on the sled.. There was a nice pillow line where I skinned up.

The photos are great. Jill and I only skied the south side on a powder day. ;)
They never have powder in kootenay pass :) Move along nothing to see here.
The sun made for easy photo taking. Thinking about carrying fluorescent spray paint on my ski tours to paint my ski partners clothing to many black jackets...

Way cool! I've always wondered about BC adventures along I-90 when driving to and fro Montana. Something for the mind to ponder as the miles pass by. Many years ago I did some touring near Lookout Pass on the ID/MT border but nothing like this. Nice photos and thanks for the TR.

That's a great area. Did you go north or south?
We made a quick powder stop there a few years ago. Wish we had more time...
What do you think of those bighorn maps? Pretty useful?
It is a pretty awesome area I drive through there for work a bunch of times during the year. First time I stopped.
We did both... Two laps south f...
Just a few more...
-John and Tonda enjoying some scrambling near the top
- Looking out on some serious terrain; on the second day...on the lower flank of the NE chute
-super steep slope right to the creek bed...which I had the glory of getting first...on the second day's outing, on the way home ;D

Thanks Mat! We will have to get after this, one of these days...conditions are primo right now!
Here are a couple more...
-Tonda and John skinning up the east aspect after farming the wide open, steep slopes...notice the canyon way down below...that is the start from the road
-the north bowl and my turns on the left, with the guys taking the right side; funneling down through the trees...notice the green tree....Tonda, and all, decided that tree was bad!
-the top of the NE chute, and ridge between that and the north bowl...super-duper!

Awesome video and killer terrain.
Love the photos. The slot is such a fun line.
Glad to hear the Olympics are still in good condition... I hope they hold out. I skied with GaryH and Jan in December and we enjoyed excellent conditions. I think they mentioned you as a mighty trail breaker :)
I'm sure it was nice to have a break. We should ski sometime ;D

I thought about riding those chutes on saturday but chose the other skin track that went to the false summit of herman instead to get a longer steeper run. Everyone that had gone that way dropped in off the other side so i had the only line on that face, at least at the time.
Very nice, Edgesport! We skied the Old Chute and the White River Headwall and saw your tracks below. You picked a very aesthetic line and put some great tracks in! Strong work.
Nice job on the pics Bryan and thanks for posting the write-up.
