Great report, I have looked at that route on a map before as it seems like on of the only options in winter. But I am not a fan of long approaches and or over night trips. Well overnight is ok getting to a base camp but I would want good vertical the second day. SW chutes are just so much fun and solid day trip. See my trip report for Phil last year, can't wait for a eat this year.
Hell yeah! A true Cascadian adventure!
Went back out today 1/27 and it was better, deeper snow, colder and not a soul in the bc other than me.
Another great report Ben! Looks like you guys had an awesome trip. Way to pull through with the late start, I don't know if I woulda..
looked like a great trip! after scott posted the photo of twin lakes i've really wanted to get out there. looks like an incredible zone.

Did you see Jason Hummel and party out there? I'm pretty sure that's about when they were in the Columbia Peak vicinity.

we saw them hit the summit, but i bet they were too busy dealing with loose hand holds and steep transitions to notice the little specks watching them from the ridge below!  nice work guys!
Yeah, we headed back to our skintrack and saw that the snowshoers had destroyed it.  So I started to whine, but then ran into one of them peeing in the middle of the track.  ???

Just gotta laugh about that one.

I was pretty shocked that we only ran into 3 other skiers all day.  I must've missed the big dump alert?  But it was skiing pretty good.
Thanks Filbo ,I took your report and applied it to Paradise Today 1/26  and was not dissappointed .
Jim,

Thanks.  I've seen a lot of your photography out there as well.  You've definitely covered the Cascades far and wide!

I enjoyed your trip report from your Columbia adventure.  Different time of year, similar level of spectacularity.  What a peak.

The sled made a narrow crossing in some very shallow water well below the main log crossing.
Thanks for the TR and great pics (I'm getting into B&W lately too). When Jeff Rich and I skied it a couple years ago it was one of the best descents of my life - we also enjoyed perfect conditions and a gorgeous sunset from the summit, although we had to climb down through the rocks at the constriction which wasn't filled in.

How did you guys get your snowmobiles over the river on your wa...
Love the first picture and the view of Shuksan. Makes all the lines of the NW side look extra gnarly... which they are!

Nice pics and report.  Not that this has anything to do with your trip Vince, but I had a friend nearly get buried on herman yesterday (not true summit, but the smaller peak most folks ski facing the ski area).  I wasn't there, so I don't know all of the details.  I'm sure everyone is being careful out there, but remember that sunny days != stability (duh).  I do know that he was...
Nice work dude! I'm jealous!
Thanks for posting for the mere mortals lurking here!
Wow!  I hope ya'll had a safety meeting beforehand.  Great pics!  Thanks for sharing.
Well done, that's a pretty heavy looking line! Did you see Jason Hummel and party out there? I'm pretty sure that's about when they were in the Columbia Peak vicinity. Hummel's FB page has a couple sweet shots from their trip.
"I'm sure everyone is being careful out there ..... I do know that he was riding alone"  ???

Joke, I'm glad your friend is ok.

Yesterday was a pretty picture perfect example of when to not go skiing solo (IMO). Various buried sun crusts and surface hoars, wind, and insolation . No, it hadn't just dumped 3 feet of new storm snow, but all of the components were there. Again, I'm glad he lucked out.
Wow, great trip Scott and company -- awesome video too.

Love this one:
Way to deal with a challenging situation in a pretty efficient way. I was with the Wildsnow group that had the Dynafit Stoke rip-out on the Fuhrer Finger. Once on more moderate terrain below the Fuhrer Finger, we were able to screw the toe piece into another set of inserts (that hadn't yet been used). A couple thousand vert later, these new inserts ripped out as well. (Granted, the remount was a bit hasty, and there may have been some debris in the threads.) Check out Louie's writeup o...
Cool trip. I had been thinking about an Alp to Granite tour for years. Glad some one has more gumption then me.......LOL.
Nice man. Another great report. I have rock climbed in the Aiguille Rouge, your report brings back great memories.

North Face of the Midi in your plans.........the Mallory perhaps???? Yikes.........
I do know that he was riding alone, and got flushed down face first and pushed out the end of the slide....
Sheeeit.

This is proabably the best piece of content I've seen in the last couple of years on TAY.

You guys killed it.
Thanks for a well written TR and great photos. It nice to see Diamond from a different perspective.
Very fine video, Scott! Fine way to spend a sunny day!
That is a really cool thing.
Well deserved "Party ski"!
Awesome trip! Great B&W's. Thanks for sharing!
WOW! Super impressive. And killer weather! Nicely done
The video segment where you point'em over the rocks and let them ride was particularly nice.  Strong work.
Thanks for all the comments! I only saw Thielsen from a distance, backlit (it's on the horizon in the "view of true summit" photo), and I have only been there in the summer, so can't say much. And the secret for the photos is to upload them first to flickr (or some other site, like photobucket), then find the URLs for each image, and insert those into the text of the post enclosed in img tags.
Vince, that does not look like creamy dreamy pow/corn!  Been the same over here, but the sun above the inversion makes any trip worth the effort. thanks for the TR and pictures.
Nice tour Forest and Trevor!  The map is indeed nice to follow the route description
Leave some for me :) I'll be there in a week. Keep the beta coming!
Looks gorgeous, thanks for the tr. How is Thielson looking? I've always wanted to get up there with skis. Also, what's your secret to posting so many pics rather than being limited to three low quality ones?
Very cool! Creative way to string together a circuit out there.
That pic of the sisters is first class. Great trip report. thanks for da stoke.
Love it!  Big fan of adventurous XCD routes.  Well told.

Great report, very interesting.

Oregon represent!

Too bad I spent the whole time working!

Same here...but I do appreciate the trip reports and quality photos, they motivate me to find a job with more free time!
Nice pics and a good read. Thanks for sharing.
Nicely done on the videos!  I found myself leaning into the turns, and cringing from the rock walls.  Cool terrain!
rad couloirs!
glad to see the venture is getting the goods.
Much thanks to Fresh and the rest of our crew for pooling our resources and helping me get out on what was left of my setup.

The shop where I got my setup is helping me with reclaiming some new skis and bindings from Dynafit.  I'm not sure what to expect, or demand, from them, but am pretty worried about having to rely on them in the future.  The shop suggested I sell the whole rig and get some new stuff...

Hearing about more and more of these insert failures doesn't exactly make me feel confident skiing my Manaslus in high-consequence conditions.

I ski the Manaslu's.  I find when I ski in high consequence situations, my turns are calculated and I make a concerted effort to always stay centered, and have never had a binding rip out even in non release...
Thanks Ben. Unfortunately that trip didn't take it off the hit list....it just made me want to go back when there's deep stable snow so I can point it. ;)
Nice trip report, I really like the three pictures of the sunset on the Sisters. thanks
Nice today Trevor and Forest and the photo and topo are great.  ;)
