Great descent on perfect corn all the way down.

Nice job!  I always miss out on grabbing some big days during these inversions; that four-letter word "work" keeps getting in the way.

Ooh, and this one!

This is one of the most unique photos of the upper Enchantments I have ever seen!  Very Sci-Fi, as if a glowing diamond fell out of space.
Awesome.  I'd love to scoop up some copies for future home page photos...

Susan spent a lot more time outside that night making photographs - more and better photos may be on the way.
I love the blue light on the pyramid.  Great shot.

Nice trip, Charlie!
Nice tour. The "ridge too far" looks tempting from above but it needs to be real stable cause you always come into this from above with little to no chance to do a good assessment. It does slide often, can go pretty big, and it's "trappy". But I digress a bit here. Did you ski any of the north / north-east facing runs off the wind blown knob & down to the frozen lake back there? Some fun bowls and glades can be had inside a days work there. Not epics or especially lo...
Great report Charlie - sounds like gorgeous weather and sporting travel...  Glad you hooked up with Jonah and Anne, they're awesome folks.  And South is delicious...

Love this sunrise shot:
I love spring skiing.

Especially in Janumay ,Junuary and  Januly

Not sure where I first heard it in an avalanche context, but I didn't invent it. When I did a lot of whitewater kayaking, we referred to getting thrown around violently in a recirculating hydraulic as 'getting chundered'. Seems like a reasonable parallel to the dynamic avalan...
Nope, I was across the valley. I watched two people and a dog put in the track and then drop the South slope on the 13th or 14th.

Sometime over the weekend, I recounted your words from the day you sold me my first ski crampons, probably in 2007. "Now, you use these harscheisen when you're scared... "

This weekend, I used them as much for convenience as...

This trip report has taken an odd turn, and it's probably Victor's fault! .

Correction... It all started when Gerard Depardieu was brought into the post.  The perfect description of the day is a quote from "Les Valseuses" a classic/cult 70's French movie that revealed Gerard Depardieu and a couple of other actors.
Nice, Robie! I love spring skiing.  I was suffering in Sunshine, in the San Juans, with amazing views of Mt Baker.
Sweet loop!  Yes, let's hope for the next storm to come in warm!!

Cool trip and thanks for all the useful snowpack and conditions info.
John
Yesterday was beautiful one on Mt. St. Helens.

Nice.  I just wish that run wasn't so short!
Hey, it was cold. Don't you people know about shrinkage??

Crown was there on the 14th. I'm guessing it was from the rain event on the 7th.

Was that you that skied into the NE Bowl?  Thanks for the skin track if you did the approach I described.  It obviously wasn't the first time you have skied in there!  That's pretty much what we assumed on the slide event.  Some good firm corn on the b...

He sure takes stunning photos though.

Creative!!!  I snowshoed that route many years ago when frozen and never got back with the skis.  We dubbed it "the corkscrew" route.  Thanks for reminding me how worth it it can be.  i remember a few giant Douglas fir trees in the valley floor.  Could you skin from the road that the summer trail crosses?
Thanks,
John

Then I think that pieces together nicely...

Looks like a great trip.

Regarding:
three Portland hipsters discussing their career paths ("I think I'm either going to be an Art Professor or just homestead")

Is "homesteading" the new vernacular for living in a van down by the river?
Dang! Those are some big crystals!
Great pics, thanks for posting. Was unfortunately in (a) fog all day.
A great trip in winter.   ;)

"Paisible ? À la fraîche ? Décontracté du gland ?" - Les Valseuses.  Good description of the day.

Okay, google translate says thus:  "Peaceful? In fresh? Casual glans?"

What's a casual glan?
Nice job Brian! Way to summit. Thanks a lot for the report.
You are the man Silas. Must have been fun and thanks for all the great trip reports!

We followed up on Sunday as well - quite a few parties up there... at least 3-4 groups on skis/boards and a few other paries on foot.

We left the descent a bit late at 2:30. Enjoyed excellent snow until around 4000', where it started to get a bit sloppy. Thanks for the timely report that reminded us of this big south face! We followed tracks down the central gully, but didn't have the desire to tangle with as much brush, so bailed to the trail for the short walk out. Had we...
On our way out of the parking lot Sunday, we found a pair of  AT boots that appeared to be left behind. We brought them to the Lone Fir Resort Cafe in Cougar (where you register for permits) and the woman working there said they would be brought to the Forest Service office in Amboy (360-247-3900).
thanks for the post, we followed Sunday and had a great spring day.  perfect corn.  busting the last part to the road was the most fun part, huh!?
Wow -- glad you came out of it okay!  I noticed when I looked back from Glacier Vista that your partner had caught up with you.  Scary failure, glad it didn't happen in higher consequence terrain.

I'm not sure if the Charger construction is similar to Voile's Insanes, but I've ripped screws out of the Insanes a couple of times.  With a tele binding, granted, but the lighter weight construction definitely didn't give a ton of bite to the screws.
catastrophic binding failure. actually, more of an interface/ski failure.
Making our way down the Wilson, comforts in lock, at the transition point of my turn I basically stepped out of my right ski, fell and slide for a good 100 feet before i could get any solid purchase with my whippet.  After arresting the fall I looked down at my boots to see that the toe piece of the binding was still attached to my right boot. All 5 screws were still firmly attached to the binding.  The errant ski ha...
Watched you guys traverse and enter the chutes while snowshoeing with the parents above paradise. Answered plenty of BC ski questions and was able to educate while pointing out a textbook and efficient example of leapfrogging and terrain management; kudos for that! Looked like a great ski!
8 am.  Back at 630. I remeber we werent carrying a very fast pace either..

I figured if I ever did it again I would start three hours sooner and have time to ride more.

Snow on all the unplowed roads in the wild sky right now. Mostly a foot or two. Funny. We where parked just down the road from you at the washout all weekend. did a little tour through the wild sky too.

That's a bit of a change in the ID from around new year's.  Have some crevasses opened up?  Or just tough to ski through?

There is a continuous ski line through the bottom 1/3, for sure. It's at the southern edge, much of it below the Gib Rock overhang, and so somewhat littered with fallen rock and threatened by falling rock. An uncontrolled fall w...

Think you're better reading CascadeClimbers report as he skied from summit. Though from my personal opinion, the ID is NOT in at the moment to ski, the risk vs reward seems highly out-weighed.

Nice!  Yeah saw you guys heading down with the dogs as I was doing a late arvo run on granite.  Nice tour!
scott, what time did you start when you did it?
yes plenty of snow all the way down to 800 feet elevation.  a couple of creek crossings.  and three major tree falls.  not actually THAT bad.  but i did get impaled a couple times on the way down.  if we get high pressure again I'm game to try it again.  if it's legal i'd totally clear this sucker this coming summer.
Nice climb after your birthday.  ;)
