We were there and saw Andy's slide , Actually it was 4" crown about 50' wide that broke on first(back bowl) south facing 35-40 degree slope. Although we were nordic touring on top MAzama that top 4" got very wet. We left later than Andy did. Might not be good conditons tomorrow on south facing.
Thanks for the clarification.
Nice attempt.
Yeah, there are a bunch of places where the snowmo roads get groomed by a cat dragging a groomer that leaves corduroy behind. Presumably funded via sno-park passes (or is it NOVA funds??). I've seen them out doing the grooming a few times when coming home late via one of these roads. If you hit the road early enough in the AM you tend to get to see it in pristine shape.

No rain, some snow flakes while I was there; forecast for tonight is cloudy; that means, perhaps, less nasty crust in the morning but no resolution of the wet snow on the crust.
Thanks Andrew,
Any rain?
Maybe a cold clear night can dry the snow out on North aspects??????

Thanks for the heads up! Several times I've been riding MRNP areas and have had other folk on the routes explain to me that wet slides and sluffs/point releases aren't dangerous whatsoever, I laugh and sarcasticly say "alright dude". I've been carried a good distance by a sluff, they can easily take you over cliffs and other terrain traps.
Uhh, is Mt.Yotie by Clara Lake? I'm confused by your post Jamie!

Wow....that groomed teanaway road is amazing. Is that normal? Do they use a fancy grooming cat? It doesn't look like a sno-mobile road at all. It looks like a nice place for XC skiing. I thought 29 pines was more a sno-mobile only area.
The road was probably groomed the night before our trip. Coming out the road was a starting to be eaten up by snowmobile...

but yeah, well done. How many days is it for you now?
Haha. Jealous of the natural face warmer T? Tomorrow will be day 50 on the winter, including 23 in a row!

Awesome man! Any plans to head back to the PNW in the near future?
What's with the small breakfast, you on a diet or something? ::)

Freakin awesome. I'll need to venture that way! Thanks for the inspiration.
Nice trip. Where's all the people? Surprised there was so much pow in those chutes after skinning up them and sending a few skiers back down.
Cool lines; great photos. Thanks for posting!
Nicely produced video. Looks like you had lots of company on the mountain despite the fog. To avoid the crowds around Paradise on Saturday we went skiing at White Pass with the grandkids ;D Follow the Leader We went back to Paradise on Monday and found it the most tracked out we've seen it in 25 years. Paradise Valley Road was so packed it looked groomed, the trail up from 4 xing too; the front of Mazama was really trashed...
Awesome tr - That wasatch blower looks nice from here in the northwet. Breakfast of champions too; nice work.

ski2fly: You are correct, there's a gully that takes you right to the top of the Pipeline from the backside and from there you can bump over to that lookers left entrance.

Inspiring. I wish I had more time. :-[

it's rare that i can show snowboarding stuff to the family and hold their interest, but this video was an exception. hell, i even had a couple of 2nd graders enthralled watching over my shoulder!

Looks like a great line. Is "An alternate entrance on the looker’s left side can be accessed from the top of the Pipeline and is a little mellower. " top left of the big snowfield, the small visible snow section? So does the pipeline then make a sharp looker's right up behind the rock and start at this alternate entrance to "the hourglass"?

From the top of the summit there was a lot of burn as you skied down which made the tree spaces real nice and fast for descents. Don't know how recently they burned but yep and how did you know that have you skied the bc there?
The burn inside the ski resort is from around the turn of the century (and predates the lift that serves it). There was another big...
Ha! I loved your 11:30 am alpine start.
Also, thanks for reporting in detail on these lines. I'd really like to ski them this spring when they are in!

lost trail is sick. never ridden out of bounds.. never really needed too either i guess
Wow!
No wonder I didn't run into you out there. You don't have to wait for the crowds to fade to run that line!
Nice work!

Looks like the Kendall Pk couloirs?
First time I have seen the entrance to one of the eastern chutes pictured in a post. I bit steep for me but may have to try some day.
Thanks,
John
Great trip! Many folks have forgot about the Gold Hills Ski Cabin or talked about it. ;)
Making good use of the weather windows as usual -- nice work guys!

Very cool, David!
You and Becky had a nice day. The video was nice. ;)

Nice route! I love that terrain over there and have always wanted to ski off Castle Peak and explore the NW side. Well done!

I think it would be quite difficult to navigate from the backside of Castle to Goat Lake because of the steep complex and cliffy terrain on the SW side.
Yes I remember him saying that he had to go quite a ways down in the woods before he could come back up and got lucky to find a chute that went through coming back into Goat Lake. And since he used up so muc...
We were responsible for some of those tracks from the S. Ridge, doing labs from our Yodelin cabin on both Saturday and Sunday. As you found, surprisingly nice conditions. Beautiful skiing in boot deep powder down to the meadows just above the lake on both days -- much more fun on Sunday when the fog gave way to glorious sunshine. The descent down toward the highway was better than expected. On Saturday, we did a couple laps down the main rib and face in stiff powder with only a few short stretch...
Thanks guys.
Just guessing, I would say the two larger chutes are in the 35-45 range, and lovers lane the top is 50+
I agree Leyland, they seem pretty mellow with good snow, a lot wider and more filled in since we were there.

Indeed, clear weather would've significantly improved this tour. Stats are ~7100' ascent and ~14.5 miles of distance.

We gotta get back there again sometime when we can see. Thanks for cooking this one up and doing all of the research! Good exercise day... motivating the legs for touring again Sunday was tough. Did you figure out the stats for this one?

Nice!
Your times are interesting. When we did it, it only took a little more than 3 hours for the approach, but more than 6 hours to climb the couloir! I think we stayed on the east side of the Napeequa the entire time - I think the only water crossing was Twin Lakes Creek, but I could be wrong.
We remembered that from your report... we we...
