The Whistler backcountry is trashed. The east side of Flute is completely tracked out as are both the west and east faces of Oboe. Cowboy Ridge looks like a lift area. The couloirs on Fissile are getting heavy traffic; two days ago we counted 19 people headed for the couloirs. Whirlwind has been skied by four parties in the last three days. It will take a lot of snow to fill in all the tracks. On a brighter note, the outhouse at the Russet Lake hut is in very good shape and there's toilet p...
nice work fellas! beautiful looking line and pictures.
right on, fellas.  way to explore--that is a sweet place for ski-mo.

too bad Bonanza's NW aspect was being coy.  an appealing line also on my list.  you'll get it next time i'm sure.  was getting over into that basin straightforward? i've wondered if there were required shenanigans, but i gather you guys had no problems?
Did you find a blue skin there?  I lost one of mine on Sunday and rumor has it someone on here found it but I can't find the post...
Good to run into you up there, Silas ("mr gnarly", haha).  Fantastic day at sno-quality!  Compelling enough for Muir regulars, even.  Imagine it's still quite good on shaded aspects...lucky retirees.
They're on the way to Whistler. Check out their progress on their Inreach map at Traverse the Coast.
Way to get on some amazing lines.

So stoked to see photos of you guys up on Copper!

Was up there yesterday, thanks for the track. It was definitely steep in a few places. We had great viz until just before we were drop in and then in socked in on us. We waited for a few but it wasn't getting much better so we decided to just go. Had to make some semi cautious turns because of no viz, but it was still fun. Once down the the lake it was clear all the way to the bottom. Wan...

Fantastic trip report and photos.  ;)
Thanks people's! I posted the whole lot on Flickr if you have time to kill.http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/vermontbmx/sets/72157632765189564/
Ooooooooh! Wow...

Looks like a fun trip fellas!

Super photos from seth.
Awesome john!

Amazing that as much as you get around locally, that you are still able to find yourself new and interesting terrain to explore. Stoked you made it back there and found it enjoyable. Even the silly ice luge out can be fun in a weird way.

After trying to gain that steepish section a few ways, I think its easiest from the north margin. At least it mellows out a lot quicker. The gulley on the south is hard to exit to the mellow terrain to climbers right once you...
Awesome TR easy to read and follow. Thanks for the beta too!  Any concern about crevasses?  Close calls?

All the 15 other folks we encountered seemed to be having fun

Fun indeed, thanks for setting a nice skin track for the out!
Stunning photos. Mighty nice coup on a spectacular line!
Last shot looks sweet! Kudos!
Susan, Eddie, and I rambled all over near the Pass, covering all aspects except E, on an exploratory tour for WAC outings next week. Spent most of our time between 4.2 and 5.4k. Best snow on open slopes, but quite good in the trees above 4k. Let conditions and stoke guide the ramble; found ourselves at the car 8-9 hours after we left.

Snow mostly inspired confidence - better-than-average bond to the crust nigh everywhere. Rightside up snow, unless topped with 1-3" very soft wind...
My party skied there this afternoon, we started out from the parking lot at 11am and reached a high point of 5700 ft a little after noon.  We headed up the S side of Herman and experienced the same conditions: chalky powder (1-3 inches) on top of a pretty solid crust.  We only experienced one area of any fracture propagation, at about 5000 feet on a south facing slope (believed to be very isolated to this one area); no other areas showed much propagation at all.  We skied S and S...
Sounds like an amazing journey!
Dang, thanks for the heads up.

Did you have any problem catching the right turn to go up the correct drainage that led to the lakes and Sparkplug?

Did you have any problem catching the right turn to go up the correct drainage that led to the lakes and Sparkplug?
I'm impressed, John. That thing leaves the road and just climbs! Very nice long open powder runs. I've already gotten it mapped out! Basically 1,000 per mile.  Lots of snow in that area.
And if anyone would like to hang with 11 of the finest BC travelers, learn huge amounts of ski mountaineering lore and sweat off your coach potato layer, I couldn't recommend a better course than the AMGA Ski Guide Course (http://amga.com/programs/ski_SGC.php).  Certainly world class training.

On another note, anyone know the origins of this photo?  Extra snaps if you can guess where it's from.
Like NWAC predicted, it was a good day to be in the mountains.
Hmmm, I better change that date or I'll get a lot of time travellers mixed up!

Original date mistake was Feb 27 shoould have read 17th
Awesome! Skiing that in sunset powder last year made for a lasting memory.

How was your route up through the gully area? I remember that being a bit of a pain. I'm curious if you found a smooth route.
Cool, I'll make sure to be there next Wednesday!  I'll hold you to the prediction!
John
So skiing at Paradise on a Wednesday is OK if you have a time-travel machine?   :)
I agree.  What a trip!  One more on the list for me.
sweet! you guys are rockin .. seth .. your stuff is awesome!
Great pictures, great trip, that's a fantastic line!
Good choice fellas. Pretty amazing place.
Nice work! I was up there solo on friday, that must have been your groups fine skin track that I pararelled up.
Way to stick to your guns and give it your best shot .Something heroic about that!
Nice pics
Love it.  I want to ski Bonanza one day.  Thanks for the stoke.
great pics; similar to magazine pics!
Awesome pictures, you guys! Very inspiring...
Nice work, and great photos!
Ran into some of you a week ago... good to see further fruits of your progression.  Nice terrain and mixed conditions.
Huckleberries in cream sauce, one of my favorites.
awesome!  Was just wondering about Holden, in need of a little prayer retreat...

Strong turns with no highbacks...crazy. Did you see santa out there?

I have (had) no idea what you're talking about... (I'm a skier yo!) so I searched, and this came up first. Totally dig the title: The Less I Have The More I Gain.
This area has been on the list for some time.  I can see it needs to move to the front.  Thanks for sharing a great ring of fire ski.
