That's what I mean - get yer face in da snow! Here my master demonstrates proper technique:
Actually Aki looked a bit concerned. One needs to be careful going downhill on fish-scale skis in the tour-mode!
Great TR Aki. You can post a TR with good photos of your trail breakers. It took me 68yo to do what you accomplish in a couple of years. Good job.
The HH bowl looks almost normal, but I can feel the rocks lurking under your tracks.
Not a good year for powder at the Ridge :'(

That first photo looks much better than the goods in the neighborhood of The Rainshadow!
Thanks for the photos and reminder of Idaho's blue sky. I've been thinkin' of going back there this season.

Nice work! How was the stability when you were there?
Stability was good now it isn't so good. Lots of buried surface hoar and slabs.

Goodonya reaching the summit! We were pretty tuckered on Tuesday just getting to 8000 ft.
Common Kam Rock and turf only come into play with operator judgement error! Good light snow in a low elevation low snow area. First time all season it was skiable! I'll take you there if February if we get some more!
Thanks for the great report and pictures, truly a short sleeve commentary on the winter thus far.
Rocks and turf sounds like a firm base to me!
Cool TR. Great picture of Shuksan. Really makes me miss the PNW right now.
I'm sorry I couldn't make it to ski with you two. Kid duty keeps me close to the Ridge on weekends. Skiing here was good, but you probably had better.
Wow, those rain runnels add a lot to the images! So I guess they're good for something besides a good indicator of a solid snowpack :-)
Wow, surprising! By "below Blewett" do you mean Tronson Diamond head area?
Really great TR and truly enjoyed the photos. Thanks!!
Nice T-shirt! Thanks for the TR, the spring season might be a crying game.
Nice work, great photos, long day, looks like a good substitute for Rainier-in-a-day. No LE rangers near Baker this time of year to foil your plans, eh?
Thanks for the detailed list of route and approach conditions, always nice to see that info in a TR.

I'm with sno, thanks for the reports, even if I can't go, it keeps me thinking about going. Thanks
Thanks for the updates. Keep em coming. Very helpful.
It was nice to meet you all yesterday and big thanks to Amar for letting me tag along!

The cruise down was fairly rough for me due to an accident 4 months ago that has left me without all of my flex in my ankle. I did make it down w/o to many issues, and had a fun ski regardless of my 33 year old body falling apart.
Month 35 tagged in the bag.
Way to set your brain to it! At 33 you can have decades more of bouncing back. Keep playing the rehab/fit...
Thanks for posting your report. I enjoyed the photos.

On a related note, does anyone have a gpx track for a good way to access the Squak? We just followed the Scott Paul Trail, is there a more direct route?
There is a Google Earth screenshot of our tracks from June 2013 at the end of this album:

So that was at Quartz Creek (your slab pics)? ... We were up there for 6 days and just got back... The inversion worked well for us - rode a lot of trees and pillow lines...
I rode Quartz 11 months ago via a rented sled... We never made it over that way because of reports that it wasn't as good as the Revy side. I'm a big fan of Kicking Horse and this was the only time out of 5 trips that I didn't ride on the Golden side

Guessing that is all from the last rain event?
Thanks for posting those, Andy. A reminder that NWAC has a resource to submit avalanche obs and photos via their website: http://www.nwac.us/observations/submit/ A new mobile app is in the process of launching and it will have the ability to submit observations as well...a much improved interface developed in conjunction with the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) and Black Diamond. All snowpack and avalanche obs are appreciated!
thanks Andy,thats what I thought .
Not at all. In fact, we think the new might form crust tonight.
Things soften up much in the sun?
Thanks for posting!
Worth heading your way just for the view!

My wife was due 1/7/15 also, our second. Had a trip with some friends planned up to Paradise just before the New Year, one last easy tour before the baby came. Needless to say, my wife ended up delivering 12/26. Glad to see you were able to make it up before your wife delivered.

Is there significant crevasse hazard on this route?
There are large crevasses that start just above Crag View at ~6500 in late summer, and that close in winter. I guess they will be covered by now given the OK snow cover at higher elevations but this winter is just too weird...Squak Gl. route is considered more safe than Easton Gl. route regarding the crevasse...
Hey, this is what we all take the chance of doing because we are so happily addicted. Not just the chance of bad judgement getting us avalanched; the chance of a long anticipated major adventure mission being a washout/skunked/bageled/0-fer'd. Seriously good on ya for having the mindset you had and candor to pen it. Part of our passion.

Follow Scott Paul trail until you find enough snow to skin up the mountain, to descend reverse procedure

Looks like there will be some good alpine skiing till thursday around the pass. Pic is from the Sapphire Col-Lilly traverse today. Windboard above around 2400m on Sapphire col and the lilly. Smooth pow below that. The west aspect off sapphire col skied really well surprisingly.
Thanks for the update. Hoping to head up that direction later this month if conditions improve.
The pass is a big place and has a spatially variable snowpack. The west side of the divide is quite a bit more stable then the east. The drive could still be worth it if the snow holds off for another week.
