FWIW: I saw a patroller on a snow-machine with a trailer full of snow filling in some low spots last night.
I was a bit peeved that the Pacific Crest lift was closed last night -- as Wednesday is lesson night for the Mountaineers and Washington Alpine club programs, which I help out with. I skinned to the top of PC a couple times and there were some large bare patches right at the top -- but really no more so than the bare patches on the Julies chair.

Thanks for the report Lowell. I visited those ruins back in September but didn't know the back story on the lodge.
Did another skinning session at Summit West last evening. I'm glad to report that the ski area is moving snow around to cover thin spots and the conditions were better last night than on Sunday, despite no new snow. I talked to an employee who said they're prepared to move mountains to keep West operating. Goodonya to the Summit!

Was there coverage all the way back to the parking lot? Wondering whether to bring the good skis or rock skis if we go up this Saturday.
Still plenty of good snow to skin/ski from annex lot as of today - almost 5k descent available via crater rock ish to lowest Tline terrain.
I was very glad to have 105 underfoot for spring conditions sat/sun - not so much the last...
LOL, I did not catch that, it is the autocorrection, although I agree the amount of water on display warranted a navy forecast rather than an avy forecast. Have fun with skis and words!
Let's try posting again. Gentlemen, my hat is off to you this winter. You win all the awards. Thanks for posting.
DG: Thanks, yes it felt great. So good for my soul to have some buttery easy turns. I took up skiing about 3 years ago and having had to take a season off (rock climbing injury).. I was just starting to get a good flow when that happened. So the chickenhead ice skiing this fall was not exactly confidence inspiring or anything to work on form--and with the coverage lower paying for a lift day hasn't exactly been attractive.

Awesome. Really well done edit. Nice line and serious "get". I laughed out loud at your misery in the outro. AND he got his pole!

Great vid. Great trip. Great place for a fire.
Awesome you caught the dunk in the water.

the navy danger moderate.
Is this an assumption based on the open water on the lakes? ;D
Awesome! You guys are pretty bad. But the TR was really good.

Maybe you're just way badder than everybody else I know. I'll try to leave room in my mind for that possibility.
Well, they just adventure skinned through many long miles of poorly covered difficult terrain, braved numerous creek crossings, then rode a steep aesthetic line in powder conditions - which has not been easy to do this winter. ...
Fires in the dead of winter under a rock. What's next?!!? Probably going to tell us your granola bars weren't even ORGANIC.
I can see making a fire if you're unprepared or if you epic. But, planning to make a fire up there as your warmth strategy is a terrible example. I know a lot of climbers and skiers and I've never heard of anybody advocating such a high impact practice. You guys are truly special.
Building a fire in the heart of winter on a weeknight sounds like a wilderness experience to me. Probably a better experience than huddling together near the top of stuart.
We had to find an ample supply of firewood from somewhere didn't we? Or are you so rad, you can find it at the base of an alpine apron in a boulder field.
Again, go troll on someone else's thread....

We toured up most of the way to Pineapple Pass, but turned just below due to icy conditions. Looked like there was freezing rain earlier in the week, a shiny shell of ice everywhere.
Yeah, that was from Saturday/Saturday night. Alpental was encased in the same shell until it warmed up and softened. Not surprised GSB didn't thaw so much as Up...
"We made it up the apron to the base of the couloir and it got dark. So we rode the apron back to camp, and Leyland began his long journey home. The snow was soft, but had a crust underneath from the rain event, that got deeper as we got higher. Scott and I in the meantime set up a superb camp under a boulder, dried our gear, cooked and got toasty by the fire.
In the morning we awoke and started another fire, cooked breakfast, and had grand plans of riding the NW couloir,...

Thanks guys. It was good times, and Scott was able to change base layers and laugh it off.

What's with promoting illegal fires in the Enchantments? Are you totally clueless?

That's my favorite line on the Chutes. Way to slay it. Looks like you got a ton of vert too. Thanks for sharing.

Congrats on getting back at it! Probably felt really good to be back on skis after that long? Yesterday was a lot of fun on slushy snow at Meadows, but it looks more like June up there with running water, rocks, and bare earth showing all over the place. Disappointing to hear that it isn't better up high given the high freezing level storms that came through earlier.
Fun video Saign, way to have the camera rolling for the log crossing!
nice work! very envious of the snow that you scored up there.
Great video - Scotts head first plunge really was the perfect cap to what looked like an awesome trip!
Awesome video! I'll freely admit I was hoping it ended in an icy plunge, and was not disappointed!
Febuarary better come through, or the Patrol race might be a jog instead of a slog.
Rad pictures Leyland. We definitely felt bad for you while we were sitting by the fire.
Don't feel too bad though, you were the only one who didn't take a dip in the creek

A few photos!
Many a adventure crosses those marshes/meadow viewpoints. A place of past and future memories.

Got another requests for some more beta pictures. Hope this helps:
Awesome Vid! Thanks for following my unbearable skin track out making sure i made it. I'm going to have to rebate it though. Somehow going in and out there in a day for half a run(in terrible light) doesn't seem... complete.
Nice job snagging a steep line in the Enchantments during this strange bony winter
It actually worked! I'm completely frozen on firefox. Can't post, log out or anything so I tried safari and it worked...
So a little extra data for the snow nerds.
There was a rain crust all the way till around 7000', then it disappeared and found varying pockets of windslab about 4-6" max, and blower pow to waist deep. Down in the valley in the meadows or mashes there was a ton of new surface hoar when we left, and we felt some sudden collapsing on a b...

Scott, Leyland and I decided to head up mountaineers creek on 1-20-15. Leyland had to be back that night, while Scott and I were going to stay overnight and bag a few lines. I picked up Scott and his sled to avoid an extra 4 miles of approach (and exit) and we reached the trailhead around 7:30am. Leyland thought he would be back to his car by dark....Moutaineers creek had other plans....
We made good time up the summer trail until it came time to cross the creek. Then it b...
Awesome writeup as always Johnny. I cannot believe some of those amazing shots you got. Let me know when you start making prints ;-)
Fascinating look at history as always Lowell. Thanks for sharing. And I'm with Jonn-E, here's hoping we get some snow in time for the race.
That picture of Brandon walking the PCT in ski boots with no white in sight is the stuff of nightmares.
Maybe the Patrol Race will be best done with fatbikes.

I can count about 40 in one shot:

Where is Silas, must be one of tiny specs:

Spring is here! (was anyway)

We made it up to Muir. It was pretty windy, although not much more so than at lower elevation. The snow was good below Muir, fairly smooth and carvable. The Nisqually chute was tracked but still in good condition. T-shirts in the parking lot, it was like June! The way things are going this winter i would call it a great day!

the lack of bureaucratic hurdles to access is quickly becoming my favorite things about Mt. Baker.
Not if you are approaching from Canada, then it is like driving to MRNP ;)
Amar,

JimD,
Did you approach via Easton? Also,
Your runnel photos > my runnel photos.
I'm unwilling to carry a DSLR, and feel like I have been taking better photos with my mirrorless Sony NEX-3N, but that totally scientific equation shows that my skills and equipment still have much room for improvement!

Took a peek this afternoon to see if I could use the roller skis ;) Not quite yet but maybe in a few days!
Actually Aki looked a bit concerned.Well, yeah, you don't have to land your face in the snow at 20 mph to taste a sample. Aki says you need to practice more ;D
